  • In the 'Society of the Spectacle', Guy Debord argued that modern life was dominated by the commodity form and the false desires it engendered. He predicted in 1967 that culture would become the driving force in the development of the economy by the end of the century, He was sure when culture becomes nothing more than a commodity, it must also become the star commodity of the spectacular society. Fashion, the starriest of star commodities with its seductive fantasy approaches to the viewers occluding the commercial reality. From this point, the spectacular property of the modern fashion can be found. This study starts on the notion that the modern fashion is on the center of capitalist consumer culture and is constructed by spectacle. On this premise, the purpose of this study is analysing the attribute of 'spectacle' and 'keeping distance £Tom spectacle' in modern fashion expressed in fashion show, fashion media and fashion store. The fashion houses in the 1990s that recognised the commercial value of shock and spectacle were eager to employ young spectacularly visible named designers. They generated the publicity necessary for sales of perfume, cosmetics, bags and diffusion range of clothes through the visible fashion show and fashion media. In the fashion show and fashion media, fashion goods as the commodity both flaunts and disguises its commercial nature in spectacle. The spectacle on the fashion store is the process turning the commodity into image to arouse viewer's higher interest. In the fashion store, the appearance of the commodity such as space, display, package is considered more importantly than its 'utility value'. Meanwhile, the study also covered the innovative trial to evade the ubiquitous 'spectacle' in fashion area.

  • We have compared and analyzed the definition of medical devices, classification, who treats, controls and sales the spectacle frames in South Korea, USA and European Union in this paper. South Korea classifies the spectacle frames as an industrial products while EU and USA regards it them as the medical devices. Sunglasses are industrial products in South Korea and EU but they are still the medical devices in USA. Assignment of spectacle frames and sunglasses as an industrial products could bring into several problems. Restricted classification of medical devices on spectacle frames and sunglasses will resolve the problem mentioned.

  • This paper analyzes films by director Tarsem Singh in relation to the theory of the sublime. The medium of film works in dimensions of both spectacle and narrative. Tarsem's strength mainly comes from spectacle. The visual style of Tarsem is unique and undeniably beautiful, but in a strange and magnificent way, rather than sweet and pleasant. If you accept the premises of Kant and Lyotard that the beautiful is a positive pleasure and the sublime is a negative pain, Tarsem's spectacle is certainly closer to the sublime than the beautiful. The Fall proves the director's ability in both spectacle and narrative. The spectacle of this film is so overwhelmingly huge, and vivid, it easily surpasses spectators' maximum capacity of imagination, which leaves the spectators in awe. Spectacle tends to hinder thinking thus obstruct the flow of narrative, but at the same time it blocks rational suspicion about the narrative. The spectacle of the Fall works as the power to immerse the spectators into the internal logic of the film. Since the spectators are deeply moved by the spectacle, they willingly follow the narrative of the film, the tragic adventure of the heroes which again gives the audience deep catharsis.

  • In this paper, the front radiuses of curvature of spherical spectacle lenses in the cosmetic and optical point of view are investigated and are calculated using Zinken-Sommer condition. The optical power of all spherical spectacle lens shows good quality at the test using autometic lensmeter. However the front radiuses of curvature of spherical spectacle lenses are quite different depending on the lens companies. The front radius of curvature of those lenses is larger than that calculated using Zinken-Sommer condition. We know that the front radius of curvature of commercial spectacle lens is emphasized more cosmetic aspect than optical point of view.

  • An investigation of the effects of CaO on microstructure and properties of SiC materials for spectacle lens cutting was described. Four materials with different composition have been fabricated by hot-pressing at $1,880^{\circ}C$ for 4h using CaO. SEM analysis and XRD of the surface of samples were carried out. Typical fracture toughness of materials for spectacle lens cutting was $5.4MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$. Also, The hardness of materials for spectacle lens cutting was relatively dependent on the density.

  • A polarizing spectacle lens having a perfect blocking of ultraviolet light and a partial blocking of blue light and having photochromic properties has been developed. It is a functional spectacle lens which can be used as a spectacle lens in the daytime, which plays a role of sunglass in a space with strong ultraviolet rays, dramatically reducing glare caused by late-night driving or reflected light. Photochromism was recovered in 0.5 second dark reaction and 3 seconds recovery time. The polarization function was about 95%. Ultraviolet rays were completely blocked and blue light was reduced by about 30%. A lens that combines photochromic and UV blocking and polarization functions is the first attempt at investigating the domestic market.

  • SiC composites were developed by incorporating glass phase into SiC, in the light of improving mechanical properties of material for spectacle lens cutting. Specimens for spectacle lens cutting with glass phase as sintering additives have been fabricated by hot-pressing at $1810^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr under a pressure of 25 MPa. The fracture toughness and hardness of hot-pressed specimens were characterized and compared with previous works. Typical hardness and fracture toughness of materials for spectacle lens cutting were 12 GPa and $5.1MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ respectively.

  • To improve the properties of materials for spectacle lens cutting. AIN was included as a sintering additive. The amount of AIN was 0, 1, 3, 5 wt% and materials for spectacle lens cutting were fabricated by hot-pressing at $1830^{\circ}C$ for 2h. Microstructure was consisted of equiaxed SiC and elongated TIC. Typical fracture toughness and hardness of materials for spectacle lens cutting with AIN $4.8MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ and 15.3 GPa, respectively.

  • Purpose: This study is to evaluate reliability of geometrical optics properties of spectacle lenses by using ISO and the medical instrument standard of KFDA, which are being sold in Korea. Methods: We used samples of three hundred and ninety eight spectacle lenses of eight company in total. Refractive indices of each samples which were used in experiment were classified into three groups of medium index (1.55~1.56), high index (1.60~1.61) and extra high index (1.67). Results: Conformity of refractive power was 81.61% in total spectacle lenses. The results showed that thickness conformity 90%, appearance conformity 85.18%, size conformity 96.23% and optical center point conformity 99.50% in total. Conclusions: We found that they deviated from the permitting value in many spectacle lenses on refractive power. The results of errors on prism power, surface inspection and optical center point showed small values in total products. In experiment of lens size and thickness, the bulk of indication rates and conformities of samples deviated from the permitting errors.
