  • Recently, the demand for more precise and demand-oriented customized spatial information is increasing due to the 4th industrial revolution. In particular, the use of 3D spatial information and digital twins which based on spatial information, and research for solving social problems in cities by using such information are continuously conducted. Globally, non-face-to-face services are increasing due to COVID-19, and the national policy direction is also rapidly progressing digital transformation, digitization and virtualization of the Korean version of the New Deal, which means that 3D spatial information has become an important factor to support it. In this study, physical objects for cities defined by world organizations such as ISO, OGC, and ITU were selected and the target of the 3D object model was limited to buildings. Based on CityGML2.0, the data collected using a drone suitable for building a 3D model of a small area is selected to be updated through road name address and building ledger, which are administrative information related to this, and LoD2.5 data is constructed and urban space. It was intended to suggest an object update method for a 3D building among data.

  • In the spatial database systems, it is necessary to manage spatial objects that have two or more aspatial information with different security levels on the same layer. If we adapt the polyinstantiation concept of relational database system for these spatial objects, it is difficult to process the representation problem of spatial objects and to solve the security problem that is service denial and information flow by access of subject that has a different security level. To address these problems, we propose a polyinstantiation method for security management of spatial objects in this paper. The proposed method manages secure spatial database system efficiently by creating spatial objects according to user's security level through security-level-conversion-step and polyinstantiation-generation-step with multi-level security policy. Also, in case of user who has a different security level requires secure operations, we create polyinstance for spatial object to solve problems of service denial and information flow.

  • Background: This study purposed to analyze and understand how spatial accessibility of patients influenced the number of outpatient visits for the internal medicine of a hospital. Methods: A hospital with 100 beds in Seoul, South Korea provided data from 2013 January 1 to 2013 June 30. Euclidean distance and road ares were used to represent the spatial accessibility. Patient level data and dong level data were collected and used in spatial analysis. Dong level data was converted into grid level ($500{\times}500m$) for the multivariate analysis. Hot-spot analysis and generalized linear model were applied to the data collected. Results: Hot-spots of outpatient visits were found around the study hospital, and cold-spots were not found. Number of outpatient visits was varied by the distance between patient resident and hospitals, and about 80% of total outpatient visits was occurred in within the 5 km from study hospital, and 50% was occurred in within 1.6 km. Spatial accessibility had significant influences on the outpatient visits. Conclusion: Findings provide evidences that spatial accessibility had influences on the patients' behaviors in utilizing the outpatient care of internal medicine in a hospital. Results can provide useful information to health policy makers as well as hospital managers for their decision making.

Abstract In distributed environment(e.g., WWW), it would be possible for the users to submit SQL-like spatial queries and to see their query results from the server on the Web browser. However, of many obstacles which result from browsing query results including large spatial data such as raster image, the delay of user response time is very critical. In this paper we present a new prefetch policy which can alleviate user response time on the assumption that user's callback access pattern has spatial locality. Our prefetch policy can be summerized as follows: 1) our prefetch algorithm is based on the Hibert-curve model which well replects user's access pattern, and 2) it utilizes user's callback interval to reduce prefetch network transmission cost. In this paper we conducted diverse experiments to show that our prefetch policy achieves higher performance improvement compared to other non-prefetch methods.

  • In recent years, the relationships and inter-dependencies between the countries in East Asia have deepened, and the vision for regional cohesion such as the East Asian Community have been gradually elaborated. A Grand Design for Northeast Asia is one of these comprehensive visions that aim to improve and develop international infrastructure through cooperation in the field of transportation, energy, environment, and information technology. This study paid attention to the possibility for a system for regional cohesion and cooperation in spatial development in East Asia, and analyzed the roles of the ESDP according to the requirements of the East Asian situation. As a result, it was understood that while the development of infrastructure is a main stream in the case of the regional cohesion in East Asia, the cooperative visions for the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, which are being positioned as an important policy in the EU, have not been seen. It is a very important subject to promote the policy cohesion/cooperation on the conservation and management of natural/cultural heritage and the development of tourism infrastructure for the sustainable development of East Asia, considering the trends in the growth of the interchange population and tourism market in East Asia. It was discussed that the role of research networks like the International Landscape Architectural Symposium of Korea, China and Japan is becoming important in supporting this policy cohesion and in grasping the present conditions and trends of the spatial development of these counties.

  • Background: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and estimating its relative risks and trends of incidence at the area-level is helpful for health policy makers. However, traditional methods of estimation which do not take spatial heterogeneity into account suffer from drawbacks and their results may be misleading, as the estimated maps of incidence vary dramatically in neighboring areas. Spatial methods have been proposed to overcome drawbacks of traditional methods by including spatial sources of variation in the model to produce smoother maps. Materials and Methods: In this study we analyzed the breast cancer data in Iran during 2004-2008. We used a method proposed to cover spatial and temporal effects simultaneously and their interactions to study trends of breast cancer incidence in Iran. Results: The results agree with previous studies but provide new information about two main issues regarding the trend of breast cancer in provinces of Iran. First, this model discovered provinces with high relative risks of breast cancer during the 5 years of the study. Second, new information was provided with respect to overall trend trends o. East-Azerbaijan, Golestan, North-Khorasan, and Khorasan-Razavi had the highest increases in rates of breast cancer incidence whilst Tehran, Isfahan, and Yazd had the highest incidence rates during 2004-2008. Conclusions: Using spatial methods can provide more accurate and detailed information about the incidence or prevalence of a disease. These models can specify provinces with different health priorities in terms of needs for therapy and drugs or demands for efficient education, screening, and preventive policy into action.

  • Technical regulations in the spatial information domain have been developed by a variety of independent organizations and raised inconsistent and overlapping problems with spatial information standards. Many research projects have been done to solve these problems but due to the difficulty of changing or modifying existing administrative regulations, almost nothing has happened for the harmonization. As a response to the fundamental problem, KATS (Korean Agency for Technology and Standards) recently switched the existing system to "trans- governmental participatory standard operation system" and the administrative change created an independent and consistent standard system in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The Ministry, as a part of the effort, established its own KSDI(Korean Spatial Data Infrastructure) Standard system. From this context this paper presents a redefinition of technical regulation for the harmonization with spatial information standards, an association model between the standards and regulations, and a maintenance methodology to solve the fore-mentioned problems.

  • Inspired by the multi-scale nature of hippocampal place cells, a biologically inspired model based on a multi-scale spatial representation for goal-directed navigation is proposed in order to achieve robotic spatial cognition and autonomous navigation. First, a map of the place cells is constructed in different scales, which is used for encoding the spatial environment. Then, the firing rate of the place cells in each layer is calculated by the Gaussian function as the input of the Q-learning process. The robot decides on its next direction for movement through several candidate actions according to the rules of action selection. After several training trials, the robot can accumulate experiential knowledge and thus learn an appropriate navigation policy to find its goal. The results in simulation show that, in contrast to the other two methods(G-Q, S-Q), the multi-scale model presented in this paper is not only in line with the multi-scale nature of place cells, but also has a faster learning potential to find the optimized path to the goal. Additionally, this method also has a good ability to complete the goal-directed navigation task in large space and in the environments with obstacles.
