Electric fields and the wall voltages in a surface-type AC PDP cell were measured using a Laser Induced Fluorescence Spectroscopy. For the condition of He 100Torr, 200V sustain voltage and 50kHz sustain frequency, the wall voltage dropped from about 50V to about -75V within $1{\mu}sec$ after the main discharge. And the wall voltage decreased with the rate of $10.8V/{\mu}sec$ due to the accumulation of the space charges after $1{\mu}sec$. But when the operating pressure was 40Torr, it increased with the rate of $4.5V/{\mu}sec$ because the diffusion effect of the wall charge on MgO surface was more dominant than the accumulation effect of the space charges. During the pulse-off period, the wall voltage decreased slightly due to the diffusion of the wall charge. When the sustain voltage was 250V, the self-erasing discharge occurred, and the absolute value of the wall voltage decreased rapidly just after the pulses were off, which was caused by the accumulation of the charges generated by the self-erasing discharge.

In this study, zinc tin oxide (ZTO) thin-film transistors are researched to observe the correlation between the barrier potential and electrical properties. Although much research has been conducted on the electronic radiation from Schottky contacts in semiconductor devices, research on electronic radiation that occurs at voltages above the threshold voltage is lacking. Furthermore, the current phenomena occurring below the threshold voltage need to be studied. Bidirectional transistors exhibit current flows below the threshold voltage, and studying the characteristics of these currents can help understand the problems associated with leakage current. A factor that affects the stability of bidirectional transistors is the potential barrier to the Schottky contact. It has been confirmed that Schottky contacts increase the efficiency of the element in semiconductor devices, by cutting off the leakage current, and that the recombination at the PN junction is closely related to the Schottky contacts. The bidirectional characteristics of the transistors are controlled by the space-charge limiting currents generated by the barrier potentials of the SiOC insulated film. Space-charge limiting currents caused by the tunneling phenomenon or quantum effect are new conduction mechanisms in semiconductors, and are different from the leakage current.
Epoxy resin is widely used in high voltage apparatus as insulation. Fillers are often added to epoxy resin to enhance its mechanical, thermal and chemical properties. The addition of fillers can deteriorate electrical performance. With the new development in nanotechnology, it has been widely anticipated that the combination of nanoparticles with traditional resin systems may create nanocomposite materials with enhanced electrical, thermal and mechanical properties. In the present paper we have carried out a comparative study on dielectric properties, space charge and dielectric breakdown behavior of epoxy resin/nanocomposites with nano-fillers of $SiO_2$ and $Al_2O_3$. The epoxy resin (LY556), commonly used in power apparatus was used to investigate the dielectric behavior of epoxy resin/nanocomposites with different filler concentrations. The epoxy resin/nanocomposite thin film samples were prepared and tests were carried out to measure their dielectric permittivity and tan delta value in a frequency range of 1 Hz - 1 MHz. The space charge behaviors were also observed by using the pulse electroacoustic (PEA) technique. In addition, traditional epoxy resin/microcomposites were also prepared and tested and the test results were compared with those obtained from epoxy resin/nanocomposites.
This study provides the results of two different blasting methods applied at the H Telcon construction site in Yeon-dong, Cheju Island. One is the traditional blasting method without bottom-hole stemming and the other with bottom-hole stemming using the materials such as sand, polystyrene and sawdust in 5~10 cm lengths. The effect of these materials on vibration level was studied. Assuming that safety criterion of vibration level be 0.5cm/set, 95% confidence limit line of measured data shows that maximum charge weight per delay could be increased in the following order; traditional methed, polystyrene stemming, sand stemming, sawdust stemming.
A polyelectrolyte chain confined in a slit nanochannel exhibits a structural transition from the one in free space. In this paper, the effect of the long-range electrostatic interactions between the xanthan polyelectrolyte and the slit wall on the confined xanthan conformation is investigated via the Brownian dynamics simulation. A neutral and two negatively charged surfaces of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and glass are combined to make four kinds of slit channels with different charge characteristics: i) neutral-neutral, ii) glass-glass, iii) neutral-PDMS and iv) neutral-glass walls. Their walls are characterized by uniform surface charge densities determined from experimental data of zeta potential. Both the nonmonotonic chain size variation and the loss of long-range bond vector correlation, previously observed under confinement in the PDMS-PDMS slit, are also found in the neutral slit, demonstrating the nonelectrostatic origin of such crossover behaviors. As expected, the effect of wall charges is negligible at sufficiently high medium ionic strength of 100mM but it becomes significant in the opposite limit of 0.01mM. In the latter case, the high charge density of glass walls strengthens the effective confinement of a negatively charged polyelectrolyte and produces a xanthan structure comparable to that confined in a much narrower neutral slit. The obtained structural data suggest the possibility of controlling the structure of confined polyelectrolytes by the modification of surface charge characteristics of micro/nanofluidic devices in combination with the adjustment of the medium ionic strength.

The incorporation of 90 nm alumina particles into an epoxy matrix to form a composite microstructure is described in present study. It is shown that the use of ultrafine particles results in a substantial change in the behavior of the composite, which can be traced to the mitigation of internal charges when a comparison is made with conventional $Al_2O_3$ fillers. A variety of diagnostic techniques have been used to augment pulsed electro-acoustic space charge measurement to provide a basis for understanding the underlying physics of the phenomenon. It would appear that, when the size of the inclusions becomes small enough, they act cooperatively with the host structure and cease to exhibit interfacial properties. It is postulated that the $Al_2O_3$ particles are surrounded by high charge concentrations. Since $Al_2O_3$ particles have very high specific areas, these regions allow limited charge percolation through $Al_2O_3$ filled dielectrics. The practical consequences of this have also been explored in terms of the electric strength exhibited. It would appear that there was a window in which real advantages accumulated from the nano-formulated material. An optimum filler loading of about 0.5 wt.% was indicated.
We investigated compatibilizing effects of electrical properties such as charge distributions and electrical breakdown in blends of low density polyethylene (LDPE) / polystyrene (PS) with poly [styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene] (SEBS), the triblock copolymer. The blends with $70\;wt\%$ of LDPE and $30\;wt\%$ of PS were prepared through a melt blending in a batch type kneader at a temperature of $220^{\circ}C$ when the SEBS content increased up to $10\;wt\%$. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was investigated for observation of morphology of LDPE / PS blends increasing SEBS contents. The morphological observation showed that addition of SEBS results in the domain size reduction of the dispersed PS phase and a better interfacial adhesion between LDPE and PS phases. Measurements of space charge distributions for blends was carried out with pulsed electroacoustic (PEA) method. It was possible to observe that the amount of charge storage in the LDPE / PS blends decreased wiか increasing of SEBS content. The location of SEBS at a domain interface enables charges to move from one phase to the other via domain interface and results in a indicative decrease in the amount of space charge for the LDPE / PS blends with SEBS. Electrical breakdown strength of these blends was observed. It was found that the maximum breakdown strength of the blend was 51.55 kV/mm. These results were better than 38.38 kV/mm of LDPE used electrical insulator for cables and were caused by crystalinity of blends. Because the crystalinity of blends were lower than LDPE, electrical breakdown strength of LDPE / PS blends is higher than that of LDPE. We evaluated the possibility of these blends for insulating material substituted LDPE.

We investigated recording dynamics of a holographic grating in the photorefractive LiNbO$_3$ crystal under the low-intensity condition of recording beams. New expressions for the space-charge field and the recording time constant were obtained by solving the Kukhtarev equations under the global space -charge field, which is induced in the previous process of recording and erasing. Their validity can be confirmed by considering the limit that the period of the grating goes to infinity both theoretically and experimentally. It was found that the new expression for the recording time constant allows us to determine acceptor concentration to be $1.2${\times}$10^{21}m^{-3}$ for pure LiNbO$_3$ crystal and 2.5${\times}$$10^{21}m^{-3}$ for the 0.1 mol% iron doped LiNbO$_3$ crystal from the measured ratio of the recording time constant under the extremely large grating condition, in which the diffusion effect can be neglected, to that under the small grating condition.
