  • The seasonal mean wind direction and wind speed in a greater coasting area are investigated using the ECMWF(European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) data for 11 years from 1985 to 1995. In winter, the main wind direction in Korea and vicinity, Taiwan and vicinity, and the North Pacific Ocean of middle latitudes is a northwesterly wind, northeasterly wind, and westerly wind respectively. The wind speed is strongest in the East China Sea, the South China Sea, and the North Pacific Ocean of low latitudes(Beaufort wind scale 5-6). A distribution pattern of wind direction in spring and fall is similar to that in winter. Seasonal mean wind speed is strongest in winter and the next is fall. The wind speed in summer is generally weak. However, that in the Indochina and vicinity is strong by the influence of Asian monsoon.

  • South and North Korea, the divided nations on the Korean peninsula, began with the same modern city planning system, but following the adoption of different national ideologies-capitalism and socialism-, they established their own city planning system and developed their cities accordingly. However, the process of planning and developing a joint city of Kaesong Industrial Complex (KIC) led to the recognition about the need to bridge the differences and prepare for future joint development. This study examines North Korea's city planning system by comparing the two Koreas' systems, and identify the characteristics of North Korea's city planning system through a case analysis of the KIC. By comparing two cases, we found two distinct characteristics of North Korea's. The one is a tool for realizing ideologies and maintaining national system. The other one is that it is ideology-oriented system for the supreme leader and party while South Korea has control-oriented system for the public. We analyze the KIC case based on four pillars: planning system, development system and procedure, master plan, and use behaviors. Result of analysis shows that in KIC there are many socialistic features as we mentioned above in terms of planning system, urban design & structure, and use behavior even though a private enterprise-Hyundai Asan, in South Korea led the whole process. This study is meaningful in that it identifies the specific characteristics of North Korea's city planning focusing on the KIC and is expected to serve as a baseline material to set the future direction for North Korea's development.

  • In this study, datum points measurement have been collected and then weather data have been analyzed to figure out erosion and deposition environmental change around Halmi-island, Baramarae. First of all, it was difficult to analyze geomorphological change which is caused by climate change because of quite short term of collection period of data. However, differences in spatial distribution of erosion and deposition have locally been shown. In all season, the wind is blowing in north and north-west direction mostly except in summer which is shifted to south direction. However, since its ratio which are above 5m/s is much lower than the north and north-west wind, its effect on geomorphological process is very tiny. In order to look at a tendency of erosion and deposition environmental change around Baramarae Halmi-island, the periphery of Halmi-island was classified to east and west part, then accumulated erosion and deposition values have been calculated. As a result, generally, the datum points are located in the west part which are mostly depositional sites. On the other hand, the datum points are located in east part showed the dominant erosion patterns.

  • Meander characteristics of the Han River System using autocorrelation coefficient and variance spectrum were analysed, and meander paths were simulated by direction and direction-change series in this paper. Better wavelength estimates are obtained from direction-change spectra, dominant wavelength had the increasing tendency in order tributaries of the North Han River System, the South Han River System and the Han River Downstream System. The meander characteristics of tributaries in the North Han River, the South Han River and the Han River Downstream System could be obtained from the results of direction and direction change spectra. Direction and direction-change autocorrelograms are generally of damped oscillatory form, and wavelengths estimated from direction-change autocorrelograms correlate closely with wavelength estimated from direction-change specta.

  • As North Korean Youths are getting bigger, many psychologists have focused on them academically. But earlier studies showed many mistakes which have to be solved quickly. So the purposes of the present study are to set as the main problems as follows: Key issues and research direction for the Young North Korean defectors as research participants, issues and research direction for the objectivity of the Young North Korean defectors' psychological states, issues and research direction for the Young North Korea defectors' life in South Korea. Results as follows; First, there is no enough understanding of the research subjects and no consistency among the research results, and second, most of the researchers have no objective understanding of the research subjects' psychological states, and finally, most of the researchers have a 'adaptation model' strongly. So we have to have a more proper and objective stance for the Young North Korea defectors' life in South Korea.

  • It is effective personally and nationally that dental professionals provide oral health education to North Korean defectors. This study aims to examine literature on oral health education for North Korean defectors. The method of this study is a scoping review, which is a method for qualitatively reviewing and reinterpreting previous studies with the literature review method. There were differences in age and period of settling in South Korea among the study participants of the literature. It be divided into a study that evaluated the annual oral health education experience rate, and a study that applied an educational program and evaluated its effectiveness. It showed positive results in all literature for various effects evaluation variables such as dental health, periodontal health, and oral health knowledge. This study is significant in that it sought the direction of development of oral health education for North Korean defectors. It is suggested when planning oral health education for North Korean defectors, it is necessary to establish a differentiated approach strategy in consideration of oral health gaps, cultural differences such as language, psychological characteristics according to the settling period in South Korea, and age.

  • This study analyzed on the developmental process of forest policy direction in Korea and present status of forest desolation in North Korea of the pre and post division of the Korean peninsular with historical point of view and indicates future tasks to take. Forests in Korea were destroyed in the early of 1900s while Korean peninsular was under Japanese colonial rule. In 1945, Korea was divided into two parts, which developed its own forest policy under the different political system. South Korea was at Korean war in 1950 and accomplished the greening movement from 1970s to 1980s. After 1990s, the country has aimed to sustainable forest management. North Korea has focused on forestation until 1960. However, the result has been doubtful with North Korean economic depression, and these days North Korea faces forest desolation due to failures of forest management. Therefore, necessary is that recovery measures for forest desolation in North Korea, cooperation and interchange between North and South Korea and plans of forest management in case of unification.

  • The "Jeongjagak(丁字閣, T shaped building)" was important building from Goryeo Dynasty to Joseon Dynasty. For long period, the scale and form of the building had been changing bit by bit. The change of building results from the function. As the Jeongjagak accepted the functions of the Yeongakjeon(靈幄殿), there appeared changes of plane. The main function of Yeongakjeon was suppling space for the dead king's coffin. The Yeongakjeon was not built in the first year of King Sukjong(1674). At that time, the Jeongjagak was responsible for the function of the Yeongakjeon as an alternative. Starting from this, the Jeongjagak was used as space for the dead king's coffin. Because the coffin should place on from south to north, it demanded long inner space in south-north direction. Therefore the effort to make enough length in south-north direction was begun from the first year of King Sukjong(1674). In order to solve the problem, the Toigu(退構) was made from the reign of King Sukjong to the 28th year King Youngjo(1852). The Toigu was temporary inner space which was made in one compartment at the Baewichung(拜位廳, the part of the Jeongjagak). But the length of the Jeongjagak's south-north direction was reduced to 61.8m(20尺6寸) at the 33th year of King Youngjo(1857) when the "Gukjosangryebopyon(國朝喪禮補編)" was completed. Also it extended to 84m(28尺) during the reign of King Jeongjo(1774~1800). Following these process of extension and reduction, the length was standardized as 72m(24尺) at the reign of King Sunjo(1800~1834). These facts explains that the main cause of plane change at the Jeongjagak was acceptance of functions that was used as space for the dead king's coffin. Also, the important points of change at the Jeongjagak were the first year of King Sukjong, the 33th year of King Youngjo and the first year of King Sunjo. When it was the first year of King Sukjong and the 33th year of King Youngjo, there were two national funerals. Because of concern about the increasing labor and tax of the nation, the scale of the Jeongjagak was changed to decreasing size. Due to the improvement of drawings and annotation on a Eugwe(儀軌) at the first year of King Sunjo, the size of Jeongjagak was standardized.

  • North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950 and the armistice agreement was reached on July 27, 1953. After that, there have been about 5,000 provocations large and small. In particular, North Korea attacked a naval vessel called "Cheonanham" on March 26, 2010. After the attack, Korean government announced the sanctions against North Korea, so called "May 24 sanctions". North Korea bombarded Yeonpyeong provocation on November 23, 2010 and they planted wood box mines in the DMZ on August 4, 2015. The explosion of them resulted in injuring two Korean soldiers. In response to this accident, Korean government resumed loudspeaker broadcasting against North Korea in 11 years which had developed as the psychological warfare. After this, North Korea declared "being a state of war" and intensified tension. Suddenly North Korea suggested talks and two countries reached an agreement through inter-Korean high-level contacts. But we should review whether the agreement was reached with ease and in haste. This paper focuses on the North Korea's negotiating tactics and suggests our corresponding directions for the future.
