This paper presents an experimental study for understanding the indoor air quality in a room. A model room, which had a ceiling-mounted supply and a sidewall-mounted exhaust, was used to examine the effect of air exchange rate (AER) and contaminant source location (CSL) as a function of the elapsed time. A tracer gas method, using carbon monoxide tracer, gas analyzers, and a data acquisition system, was applied to study the ventilation air distribution and the tracer removal efficiency, so-called pollutant removal efficiency, in the model room. The experiment was composed of two parts; firstly the AER was varied to examine its effect on the ventilation air distribution and the ventilation effectiveness and secondly both AER and CSL were considered to determine their effect on the pollutant removal efficiency. It was found that the ventilation effectiveness in the model was proportional to AER but not linearly. It was also found that changing the CSL can improve the pollutant removal efficiency. In some cases, the efficiency improvement by increasing AER was achieved by simply changing CSL.

In a nuclear power plant, loose part monitoring and its diagnostic technique is one of the major issues for ensuring the structural integrity of the reactor system. Typically, accelerometers are mounted on the surface of a reactor vessel to localize impact location caused by the impact of metallic substances on the reactor system. However, in some cases, the number of the accelerometers is not enough to estimate the impact location precisely. In such a case, one of alternative plan is to utilize another type sensors that can measure the vibration of the reactor structure even though the measuring frequency ranges are different from each others. The AE sensors installed on the reactor structure can be utilized as additional sensors for loose part monitoring. In this paper, we proposed a new method to estimate impact location by using both accelerometer signal and AE signal, simultaneously. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by an experiment. The experimental results demonstrate that we can enhance the reliability and precision of the loose part monitoring.
It is well recognized recently that acoustic emission, which is an elastic wave generated from rapid release of elastic energy in steressed solids, is very useful tool for on-line monitoring of microscopic behavior of deformation of material. In this study, three point bend test was performed to evaluate the microscopic damage progress during the loading and failure mechanism of mortar beam by monitoring the characteristic of AE signal. The relationship between AE characteristic and microscopic failure mechanism is discussed. In addition 2 dimensional AE source location based on triangular method was also done to monitor the intiation and propagation of micro crack around notch tip of mortar beam. It was shown that AE source location was very effective to predict the growth behavior of micro crack in mortar beam specimen.

Cooperative networks eliminate shadow area using relay and enhance communication performance by creating virtual multi input multi output (MIMO) system. In this paper, we analyze the performance of cooperative networks which use coherent modulation scheme in source-relay nodes and differential modulation scheme in relay-destination nodes depending on the relay location. We consider the performance analysis of systems with and without the direct transmission between source and destination node where the direct transmission adopts differential modulation scheme. In addition, the performance of the system with fully differential modulation scheme is compared with the system using partially differential modulation scheme. The performance of system is based on the symbol error rate between source and destination node.

Developers spend a significant amount of time exploring and trying to understand source code to find a source location to modify. To reduce such time, existing studies have recommended the source location using statistical language model techniques. However, in these techniques, the recommendation does not occur if input data does not exactly match with learned data. In this paper, we propose a code location recommendation method using Recurrent Neural Networks and interaction histories, which does not have the above problem of the existing techniques. Our method achieved an average precision of 91% and an average recall of 71%, thereby reducing time for searching and exploring code more than the existing recommendation techniques.

Enclosures are widely used to alleviate the contribution of machinery noise. It has been long concerned with the noise transmission through the access openings of the enclosures. In this study, we investigate active noise control technology for reduction of the transmission. A numerical model based on the acoustic boundary element method is first established. Using the numerical model, the acoustic transfer functions of the field points over the opening to the primary source at arbitrary locations are estimated. The feedforward control to minimize the acoustic power through the opening is then numerically implemented. The controller drives the secondary source to destructively interfere the noise transmission through the opening. Finally, a parametric study is conducted to evaluate the effects of the location and the number of the microphones on the control performance. Furthermore, the effects of the location of the secondary source on the performance of active noise control are investigated. It is followed that the control system implemented in this study leads to a significant reduction of about 31.5 dB in the sound power through the opening using only one secondary source located at the optimized position.
In matched field processing (MEP), the observed acoustic field data is basically correlated with the replica produced by the modeling. therefore the results of source localization and correlation is limited by the mismatch of the environment and sensor location. In this paper. the effects of mismatch in environment and system on the bias in estimating the source location are investigated in the context of source localization. In the Pekeris waveguide, the simulation shows that the mismatches in environment and system, can cause a significant biases in the source localization and a degradation in MFP correlation. Mismatch caused by uncertainties in array tilt and depth, bottom depth, bottom sound speed, etc. causes degradation in source localization performance.

In this study, we investigates active control technology to reduce the noise transmitted to the outside through the opening of enclosures. A numerical model based on acoustic boundary element method is first established. Using the numerical model, the acoustic transfer functions of the field points over the opening to the primary source at arbitrary locations are estimated. The feedforward control to minimize the acoustic power through the opening is then numerically implemented. Furthermore, the effects of the location of the secondary source on the performance of active noise control are investigated. It is followed that the control system implemented in this study leads to a significant reduction of about 35dB in sound power through the open using only on secondary source located at the optimized position.
The determination algorithm of the location of a line source with strike and dip using the gravity gradient tensor on a single profile is proposed. We already proposed the determination of strike and dip in the previous paper and then, now we improved the algorithm to locate a line source after determining strike and dip. The strike and dip of the line source can be determined by rotating the gravity gradient tensor matrix as reducing 2 independent components. Using the ratio of remaining 2 components, the location can be determined by the least square manner of the pointing vectors on each observation point. A synthetic model is tested for proving the usefulness of the proposed algorithm.
