  • Sound insulation performance of a unit cabin mock-up is studied, where two identical rooms simulating cruise ship cabin are installed. STL (Sound Transmission Loss) measurement in the mock-up shows that STL of the partition between rooms is degraded by imperfect door ceiling and gap between wall and floor. It is also observed that gap around lighting and electrical outlet slightly affect the STL in high frequency ranges, since lighting and electrical outlet are supported by mineral wool in the back side due to fire-resistance requirement. Even after all possible gaps are sealed, STL of the partition is found to be lower than that measured in the laboratory by 9 dB. Measurement of SBN (Structure-Borne Noise) reveals that flanking transmission of SBN along the steel deck floor can severely deteriorate STL of the partition. Statistical energy analysis (SEA) of the mock-up confirms importance of the floor SBN control, in which increasing damping is essential to ensure high STL.

  • In this paper, it represents the design requirements to make apartment houses comfortable in acoustic environments and to keep a privacy between dwellers. The sound insulation performance between rooms were tested in the fields and the conditions to satisfy the design requirements were investigated. For that purpose, the sound insulation performance between living room and bed room were investigated and noise transmittance according to the difference of arrangement in rooms were tested. Several flush doors and light-weighted walls which have difference with each material and structure were tested to suggest the methods that improve the acoustic environments.

  • In this paper, we develop a method to design a flexible thin film audio systems utilizing Polyvinylidene fluoride. The system we designed showed the properties of increased transparency and sound pressure levels. As an input terminal transparent oxide thin film is adopted. In order to provide dielectric insulation, a transparent insulating oxide thin film is coated to obtain double -layered structure. In the range of visible light, the output from the output of the system showed an increased and improved sound pressure level. The piezoelectric polymer film of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is used to produce mechanical vibration due to the applied electrical voltage signal. An analog electric voltage signal is transformed into sound waves in the audio system.

  • Finite element method was applied to the vibration analysis of concrete slab system in apartment building. To save the time and cost the 2 dimensional finite element model was proposed. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the overall level and the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab. Second, there is linear relationship between the impact sound pressure level and vibration acceleration level. Third, 2 dimensional finite element model was enough to analyze the vibration analysis of floor structure system.

  • Honeycomb panel has a constructive advantage because it is constructed with a honeycomb core, so it has relatively higher strength ratio to weight. Therefore honeycomb panel has been used as the light weight panels in the high-speed railway technology and high-speed ship like as cruise yachts. Also it has been used in the aircraft and aerospace industry as a structural panel because light weight structure is indispensible in that field of industry. Recently, the honeycomb panel is embossed in the viewpoints of high oil prices as the lightweight panel of the transport machine, however the sound insulation capacity of the honeycomb panel is poorer than those of uniform and another sandwich panels. In this paper a method to improving the sound absorption coefficient of a honeycomb panel Is studied by using the Helmholtz resonator. The sound absorption coefficients for some kinds of honeycomb cores are demonstrated by the normal incident absorption coefficient method.

  • We develop a method to fabricate a flexible thin film audio systems using polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF). The system we designed showed the properties of increased flexibility, transparency, and sound pressure levels. In order to provide dielectric insulation, a transparent insulating oxide thin film is coated to obtain double-layered structure. In the range of visible light, the output from the output of the system showed a increased and improved sound pressure level. The piezoelectric polymer film of PVDF is used to produce mechanical vibration due to the applied electrical voltage signal. • As structure-borne sound, the floor impact sound is one of the serious noises in residential building. Most of heating system applied to the typical Korean residential building is floor heating system which is called ondol. The ondol usually consists of finishing material, mortar with heating coil, light-weight aerated concrete and reinforced concrete. This study focused on the isolation of heavy-weight impact sound and modification of mortar and light-weight aerated concrete. Specifically the glass foam aggregate was added on light-weight aerated concrete. Also, water-cement ratio and amount of cement on mortar were revised. The sound pressure level of heavy-weight impact was measured in reverberation chamber using both bang-machine and impact ball. The size of specimen was 1 m by 1 m. Substitution ratio of glass foam aggregate on light-weight aerated concrete shows relationship with heavy-weight impact sound pressure level. In addition, heavy-weight impact sound pressure level was decreased with increment of water-cement ratio and amount of cement on mortar.

  • In this paper, 3-stage centrifugal turbo compressor was measured and analyzed numerical simulation for find noise source and was reduced noise with changing designs. For this purpose, it was measured noise level and was analyzed noise frequency at each stage. In order to Find where is noise source, the study was investigated about structure borne noise by using modal analysis and also was checked sound radiation and leakage of noise at inlet and outlet by result of sound intensity. In order to reduce of noise, sound insulation rings were maded and were adhered at joint and noise reduction effects were verified by measurement and numerical simulation. From the analysis results of leakage of noise, this study presented new joint designs, also it was verified by result of numerical simulation.

  • As being inconvenient to apply reinforced concrete structure to high-rise buildings, it is applied steel structured system. Therefore light-weight wall systems are applied as partition wall to reduce the self-load of the building. But, the required performances of a light-weight wall are not evaluated systematically. As a field survey result, partition walls of house-to-house were not showed their respected performances, so the dwellers are feel so worse the quality of the whole building. In steel-structured high-rise buildings especially, occupant's dissatisfaction concerned indoor noise was high because curtain wall systems having a high air-tight performance isolate the outdoor noise making masking effect. Therefore wall systems which have high performances of sound insulation and air-tightness are required in high-rise buildings. As a result, a new drywall system was presented and the performance was verified with field test.

  • Unit cabin means room, which is installed in the high value ship such as drill ship and FPSO, after pre-assembled. In order to develop the noise control design for a unit cabin, a variety of acoustic tests such as sound absorption, transmission, and radiated noise measurements were carried out by using the mock-up of living quarter. From the tests, it was found out that the combined noise level of a unit cabin could be dominated by the radiated noise from wall panel in low frequency range and the design guidelines for the noise control of unit cabin were fully established, such as the improvement of sound transmission loss between the cabin and corridor, and radiated cabin noise reduction.
