  • This paper proposes an automatic method for detecting snore sound, one of the important symptoms of sleep apnea patients. In the proposed method, sound signals generated during sleep are input to detect a sound generation section, and a spectrogram transformed from the detected sound section is applied to a classifier based on a Convolutional Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (CBGRU) with attention mechanism. The applied attention mechanism improved the snoring sound detection performance by extending the CBGRU model to learn discriminative feature representation for the snoring detection. The experimental results show that the proposed snoring detection method improves the accuracy by approximately 3.1 % ~ 5.5 % than existing method.

  • In this paper we implement a headphone-based 5.1 channel 3-dimensional (3D) sound generation system using HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function). Each mono sound source in the 5.1 channel signal is localized on its virtual location by binaural filtering with corresponding HRTFs, and reverberation effect is added for spatialization. To reduce the computational burden, we reduce the number of taps in the HRTF impulse response and model the early reverberation effect with several tens of impulses extracted from the whole impulse sequences. We modified the spectrum of HRTF by weighing the difference of front-back spec01m to reduce the front-back confusion caused by non-individualized HRTF DB. In informal listening test we can confirm that the implemented 3D sound system generates live and rich 3D sound compared with simple stereo or 2 channel down mixing.

  • This study constructed a cognitive model of information processing to understand the topic of a sound material and its characteristics. It then proposed methods to generate sound summaries, by incorporating anterior-posterior N400/P600 components of event-related potential (ERP) response, into the language representation of the cognitive model of information processing. For this end, research hypotheses were established and verified them through ERP experiments, finding that P600 is crucial in screening topic-relevant shots from topic-irrelevant shots. The results of this study can be applied to the design of classification algorithm, which can then be used to generate the content-based metadata, such as generic or personalized sound summaries and video skims.

  • This study proposes a modified bifurcation model with a computational fluid analysis according to variation of a bifurcation geometry. FLUENT is used for a calculation of the head losses in case of a generation and a pumping. The pressure, velocity field and turbulent intensity are simulated in a bifurcation. With consideration about these flow properties, we propose the modified model to improve a flow efficiency and reduce a sound. The proposed model is able to cut down a head loss by 45% when a generation and 36% when a pumping.

  • The flow field around a symmetrical airfoil in a uniform flow under the generation of noise was numerically studied and compared with experimental datum. The numerical simulation was carried out by LES which employs a deductive dynamic model as subgrid-scale model. The result of an attack angle of $6^{\circ}$ indicate that the discrete frequency noise is generated when the separated laminar flow reattaches near the trailing edge of the pressure side and the turbulent boundary layer is formed over the suction side of the airfoil near the trailing edge. The periodic behavior of vortex formation was observed around the trailing edge and it persists further downstream in the wake. The frequency of the vortex formation in the wake was consistent with that of the discrete frequency noise.

  • This paper describes a novel approach to adaptive courseware generation. This approach adopts its structure from existing intelligent tutoring systems and introduces a new component called pedagogical scenario model to support pedagogical flexibility in the adaptation process of courseware generation system. The adaptation is carried out using Dynamic Constraint Satisfaction Problem framework, which is a variant of classical Constraint Satisfaction Problem, to deliver courseware tailored to individual learner. Such a framework provides a high level of expressiveness to deal with the particular characteristics of courseware generation problem. Further, it automatically designs a sound courseware satisfying the design constraints imposed by the domain, the pedagogical scenario and learner models.

  • This study is a study on System On Chip (SOC) that implements virtual engine sound in electric vehicles without engines, and realizes vivid engine sound by combining Adaptive Difference PCM (ADPCM) method and frequency modulation method for satisfaction of driver's needs and safety of pedestrians. In addition, by proposing an electronic sound synthesis algorithm applying Musical Instrument Didital Interface (MIDI), an engine sound synthesis method and a constitutive model of an engine sound generation system are presented. In order to satisfy both drivers and pedestrians, this study uses Controller Area Network (CAN) communication to receive information such as Revolution Per Minute (RPM), vehicle speed, accelerator pedal depressed amount, torque, etc., transmitted according to the driver's driving habits, and then modulates the frequency according to the appropriate preset parameters We implemented an interaction algorithm that accurately reflects the intention of the system and driver by using interpolation for the system, ADPCM algorithm for reducing the amount of information, and MIDI format information for making engine sound easier.

  • In the studies of noise reduction, it is important to know the generation mechanism of noise in order to identify the noise source. The relation between the structural vibration and the radiated sound is very complex and so this paper deals with a simplified radiation model that was originally developed as a verification tool for the acoustic intensity measurement procedure. As the first step for the identification of the noise source, this study deals with the noise evaluation by measuring sound pressure. On the next step, the acoustic radiational pattern is determined by the acoustic intensity method and this paper established that the acoustic intensity method is effective on the detection of noise. In the study, furthermore, the method could be used to predict the change in the sound radiational characteristics with the attachment of absorber and could be used in determining the attachment position.

  • The ship wake generated by rotation of the propeller yields changes of characteristics of sound wave such as attenuation and scattering. To develope a battle field environment simulator for military purposes, it is very important to understand acoustical properties of ship wake. Existing research results have limitations in direct application because they performed under simple conditions or model ships were applied. In this study, we developed a ship wake generation model based on the ship's geometric wake distribution theory. The model can provide spatial distribution and void fraction with various marine environments as well as ship size. Through the developed model, geometric distribution features of ship wake according to the ship's maneuvering conditions were successfully simulated. In addition, changes of the bubble void fraction with time at any location within the battle field environment were identified. Therefore, the developed model is expected to be used in the development of a simulator to measure the acoustic characteristics of the ship wake.
