Germ Tube Formation of Ascospores of Two Terrestrial Higher Ascomycetes, Hypoxylon mammatum and H. truncatum

  • Two wood decay ascomycetes fungi identified as Hypoxylon mammatum and H. truncatum were isolated from backyard of Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (KRICT) in Korea. Hypoxylon truncatum is newly recorded as a wood degrader in Korea. Unusual germination mechanisms of ascospores in H. mammatum and H. truncatum are described and illustrated. The differences between two species were noticed on the process of germ tube formation. In the process of germ tube formation, the fast movement to pigmented ascospores activated from their perispores was termed as spore eclosion that was only found in H. mammatum. This sophisticated recognition mechanism indicated the existence of specific eclosion and germ tube formation due to the composition of cell wall layers and their preferable host derive, based on examined two species under a genus. The observation on present study postulates different composition of wall layers of ascospore and different nutrient composition for germination.

Effect of Boron Concentration on the UV Photosensitivity of Silica Glass Film for Planar Lightwave Circuit (Boron 첨가량이 평면광회로용 실리카 박막의 UV 감광성에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, photosensitivity dynamics in SiO$_2$ glass with the composition similar to that of silica Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) devices was investigated as a fundamental study prior to the device fabrication. Silica bulk glasses with similar composition to the core layer of PLC devices were prepared with variable composition of B$_2$O$_3$. The photosensitivity in boron and germanium co-doped SiO$_2$ glass yields refractive index change $\Delta$n as high as 10$\^$-3/. However such index modulation disappeared after annealing. From the result of annealing experiment and W absorption / Raman spectra, we conclude the compaction model is applicable to our glass system.

Relation between Obesity Pattern Identification and Metabolic Parameters in Overweight and Obese Women (과체중 및 비만 여성에서 한방비만변증에 따른 체성분 및 대사관련 지표의 상관성)

  • Objectives: We conducted this study to analysis obesity pattern and obesity related blood parameters. Methods: A total of 64 overweight and obese (body mass index [BMI] ${\geq}23cm/kg^2$) women who had no other disease was recruited. Body composition and obesity related blood parameters were measured. Also subjects were given and filled out the Obesity pattern identification questionnaire. We analyzed the differences of body composition and blood parameters and measured correlations of BMI and blood parameters in each obesity pattern. Results: The distribution of obesity pattern was liver depression (35.6%), food accumulation (47.5%) and deficiency (pi and yang deficiency, 22.0%), in order. There were no significant differences age, body composition and obesity related blood parameters between obesity patterns. BMI and obesity related blood parameters, however, showed significant correlations depending on obesity patterns. Conclusions: We concluded that correlations between BMI and obesity related blood parameters were differed depending on obesity patterns.

Effects of Recreation Combined Exercise Program in Body Composition, Physical Fitness and Depression in Elderly (레크리에이션 복합운동이 노인의 신체조성, 체력 및 우울에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of recreation combined exercise program on body composition, physical fitness and depression in elderly women in rural district over a three-month follow-up period. Methods: Recreation combined exercise program (RCEP) was composed of resistance exercise, walking and recreation activity twice a week. The subjects were 52 divided in to experimental group (n=28) and control group (n=24). Arm curl, chair stand, 2 min step test, back scratch, chair sit and reach were measured as pre- or post-test data. Also, Depression was expressed using geriatric depression scale as pre- or post-test data. $X^2$ test, paired t-test and t-test were performed using SAS program. Results: Arm curl (p=.023), 2 minute step test (p<.001), back scratch (p=.004) and chair sit and reach (p=.024) showed the significant difference in the comparison between groups. Depression showed the significant difference in the comparison between groups (p=.008). Conclusion: These findings indicated the RCEP has positive influence upon increasing the physical fitness and improving the depression level. In conclusion, the regular RCEP will contribute to the improving physical and psychologic aspect in elderly women over the long period.

Effect of Additive Composition on Flexural Strength of Cullet-Loess Tile Bodies (첨가제의 조성이 폐유리-점토 타일의 곡강도에 미치는 영향)

  • Cullet-loess tile bodies are successfully fabricated using cullet, loess, hollow microspheres, and sintering additives (borosilicate glass frit, boric acid, or fumed silica) as starting materials. The effects of the additive composition and sintering temperature on the sintered density and flexural strength of the cullet-loess tile bodies are investigated. The sintered density of the cullet-loess tile bodies increases with an increase in the sintering temperature as a result of the enhanced densification of pore walls through the viscous flow of a liquid phase formed from the glass frit and sintering additives. The flexural strength of the cullet-loess tile bodies increases with increases in the sintering temperature and the cullet content in the starting composition. A maximal flexural strength of 40 MPa is obtained in cullet-loess tile bodies sintered with glass frit at $800^{\circ}C$ in air.

  • In recent years, many municipal governments have planned and developed welfare programs for their communities. Many of these plans have included youth facilities. However, many of these facilities have had problems keeping up with the rapidly changing needs of young people. Therefore this study aims to analyze the present State of youth facilities, their operating programmes and changing aspect of the space composition. This has significance in suggesting basic materials for planning youth facilities with the spacial characteristics corresponding to their purpose and function as exclusive space for the youth. In our case study, we limited the subjects to the local youth facilities within the daily life area of Jeju, 3 youth facilities and 15 youth culture centers. The results from the case study are as follow. Firstly, in the case of youth culture center, most of the lots are small-sized and they don't show proper space allocation according to activity. Secondly, in the recently-built youth facilities, the cultural space has been expanded rather than the space for public use. Thirdly, it is necessary to formulate the conception of youth culture center and the value in its function and role.

  • After the introduction of the 7th education program, educational facilities have been requested to change to face new curriculums and have been planned. The purpose of this study is to fill up a gap between the study of education facilities, building planning and real educational spot and also find difference of plan composition by analyzing latest middle school floor plans. In this regard, floor plans of 8 middle schools proposed in LH design competition is compared and analyzed in this study. To sum up this analysis, the guide lines suggested from Korean educational development institute(KEDI) has not been followed in many building planning. For subject classrooms, guide lines from KEDI were ignored and support facilities did not planned as necessary space calculated through scale estimation program. To select a planned proposal in the future, demand of scale estimation, various studies, real educational spot and etc. should be reflected.

Changes in the Composition and Microbial Community of the Pepper Rhizosphere in Field with Bacterial Wilt Disease

  • Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is considered one of the most harmful diseases of pepper plants. Recently, research on plant disease control through the rhizosphere microbiome has been actively conducted. In this study, the relationship with disease occurrence between the neighboring plant confirmed by analyzing the physicochemical properties of the rhizosphere soil and changes in the microbial community. The results confirmed that the microbial community changes significantly depending on the organic matters, P2O5, and clay in the soil. Despite significant differences in microbial communities according to soil composition, Actinobacteriota at the phylum level was higher in healthy plant rhizosphere (mean of relative abundance, D: 8.05 ± 1.13; H: 10.06 ± 1.59). These results suggest that Actinobacteriota may be associated with bacterial wilt disease. In this study, we present basic information for constructing of healthy soil in the future by presenting the major microbial groups that can suppress bacterial wilt.

Creating Songs Using Note Embedding and Bar Embedding and Quantitatively Evaluating Methods (음표 임베딩과 마디 임베딩을 이용한 곡의 생성 및 정량적 평가 방법)

  • In order to learn an existing song and create a new song using an artificial neural network, it is necessary to convert the song into numerical data that the neural network can recognize as a preprocessing process, and one-hot encoding has been used until now. In this paper, we proposed a note embedding method using notes as a basic unit and a bar embedding method that uses the bar as the basic unit, and compared the performance with the existing one-hot encoding. The performance comparison was conducted based on quantitative evaluation to determine which method produced a song more similar to the song composed by the composer, and quantitative evaluation methods used in the field of natural language processing were used as the evaluation method. As a result of the evaluation, the song created with bar embedding was the best, followed by note embedding. This is significant in that the note embedding and bar embedding proposed in this paper create a song that is more similar to the song composed by the composer than the existing one-hot encoding.

  • The current aging population calls for more facilities to care for the elderly. Recently the average life span of Korean has been lengthened. The percentage of the old over 65% which was 5.7% in 1995, is expected to be increased to 12.5% in 2020. Therefore, the social problems of old people occur in various aspects nowadays, and will become more serious in the near future. This study will provide basic planning guidelines in designing of the dementia ward of the Special Hospital, and the purpose of this study is to suggest a model of the utilization of Special Hospitals.
