The green-emitting CeMgAl11O19:Tb (CMAT) phosphor has been prepared at 1200 °C by the simple solid-state reaction using AlF3 as a self-flux. This preparation temperature is much lower than those (1500-1700 °C) for conventional solid-state reaction and spray pyrolysis method. In particular, the complete process to produce high-quality phosphor particles was carried out through the single-step heat treatment of the mixture of corresponding oxide-type metal sources. An addition of AlF3 as a self-flux significantly decreased the crystallization temperature of CMAT with plate-like shape. The particle morphology could be controlled from plate-like to spherical by using H3BO3 as an additional flux. Thus, an optimal morphology and luminescence characteristics of CMAT were achieved when both AlF3 and H3BO3 fluxes were simultaneously used. Compared with conventional solid-state process, which is accompanied by the calcination step(s), and other alternative liquid solution techniques such as sol-gel method and spray pyrolysis, no use of active precursors and liquid media that are harmful to the environment is a distinctive advantage for the industrial purpose.
Free radicals of lysozyme produced by $Ti-H_2O_2$ system were studied in aqueous solution at room temperature using ESR with a continuous flow-mixing. The spectra, each consisting of a doublet with 5.5 G splitting and a broad resonance covering 80 G splitting are closely similar in shape to that for solid irradiated in vacuum at $77^{\circ}K$ and observed at room temperature immediately on warming. The result is assumed to indicate that the secondary protein radical components formed within 0.01 second, dead time of the mixing chamber, and initiated by hydrogen atom abstraction at ${\alpha}$-carbon atom of peptide chain in liquid solution at room temperature are identical to those resulting from the initial formation of a mixture of positive holes and negative ions by ionization processes as well as radical fragments by the rupture of chemical bonds in the solid during similar time at the same temperature. A broad resonance is observed with considerable amplitude on the high field side of the doublet, which is quite dissimilar to the spectra of irradiated solid lysozyme. This resonance was tentatively attributed to the polypeptide free radical in which unpaired electrons are localized on side chain.
Reef tallow was hydrolyzed with lipase under the conditions of liquid state and solid state. Lipase OF 360 was used for that purpose, and the lipase had the maximum activity when the olive oil was used as a substrate at pH 6 and $37^{\circ}C$. Beef tallow was dispersed by an agitator to perform a liquid enzymatic reaction. Water content, reaction temperature, and enzyme amount were varied as parameters affecting hydrolysis percentage. Ninety three percents of tallow were hydrolyzed at the following conditions: water content 80% w/w, temperature $37^{\circ}C$, and enzyme amount 200 unitlg tallow. In order to conduct a solid phase enzymatic reaction, sonication was employed for pretreating tallow with the enzyme solution. Molten tallow was sonified with the enzyme solution, and solidified by lowering temperature. And then hydrolysis reaction proceeded at $30^{\circ}C$. Sonication intensity and time were varied to control hydrolysis percentage. Optimum values of the intensity and the time were found to exist since the hydrolysis percentage did not increase further according to the increases of the intensity and the time.
In order to clarify the mechanism of the hydration of supersulphated slag cement, the experiments of suspension hydration were performed in the mixtures of slag+CaSO4+water or NaOH solutions with a liquid/solid ratio of 10. The liquid and solid phase of the suspension was chemically analysed and discussed. In the slag-$CaSO_4$--NaOH system, $Al_2O_3$ was dissolved under high pH condition, and the ettringite was formed by a reaction of $CaSO_4$ and $Al_2O_3$ released in the solution. As hydration progressed, ettringite coated the surface of unhydrated slag grains and inhibited the hydration reaction of slag. $CaSO_4$ was not only an activator for slag hydration, but a reactant in the hydration.
The effects of membrane fouling on the water permeability were examined using the hollow fiber microfiltration (HMF)membrane. A membrane module with a pore size of 0.1 micron was submerged in the permeation tank and water bath. The applied pressure was 12.4 kPa for direct solid-liquid separation of activated sludge. As the concentration of MLSS(880~2180mg/l) of the feed solution increased, the decreasing rates of the water flux increased and the membrane was clogged more rapidly. The water flux through the membrane did not increase effectively even with the increase in the applied pressure(40.0~93.3kPa). When the membrane was cleaned with water, the recovery rate of water flux were larger for lower applied pressure. The results indicated that the process of direct solid-liquid separation using HMF membrane was effective at lower pressure.

The viscous plane stagnation-flow solidification problem is theoretically investigated. An analytic solution at the beginning of solidification is obtained by expanding the temperature and thickness of solidified layer in powers of time. An exact expression for the steady-state thickness of solidified layer is also obtained. The .fluid flow toward the cold substrate inhibits the solidification process. As Stefan number becomes larger, or Prandtl number becomes smaller, the solidification is more strongly inhibited by the fluid flow. The transient heat flux at the liquid side of solid-liquid interface is increased, as Stefan number or Prandtl number is increased.

This paper deals with an extended analytical solution for the mixture solidification problem, in which temperature is inherently coupled with the solute transport due to the presence of volume contraction induced flow. A new exact solution to the energy equation accounting for the convection effect in the melt is successfully derived, which allows the present analysis to cover a high initial superheating. Difference in properties between the solid and liquid phases is rigorously incorporated into the model equations in the solid fraction weighted form. Taking advantage of linearized correction factors, a systematic and easy-to-implement algorithm for determining the solidus and liquidus positions is introduced, which proves not only to converge stably but also to be very efficient. For a specific case, the present results show excellent agreements with the existing solution. The effect of convection in the melt becomes appreciable with increasing the initial superheating. It is revealed that variable properties in the mushy region significantly affect the solidification behaviors. The present study is also capable of resolving the interaction between microsegregation and macrosegregation.
Here, I report solid state Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) of $^1H$ nuclear spins at 0.3 T and 4.2 K. The DNP polarizer was developed based on a commercial X-band Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) modified for DNP, in combination with a NMR console and a liquid-Helium cryostat. By detuning magnetic field, DNP spectrum was measured to find the optimal condition. At +3 mT detuned from on-resonance field, $^1H$ NMR signal of 60:40 glycerol/water frozen solution doped with 20 mM perdeuterated-Tempone was amplified 43 times. The $^1H$ spin polarization obtained at 4.2 K is over 3100 times higher than that at 300 K. The width of the DNP spectrum, which is five times broader than ESR spectrum, is inconsistent with solid effect or thermal mixing, and presumably suggests a different DNP mechanism.
The knowledge of grain growth of carbide particles is very important for manufacturing micrograined cemented carbides. In the present study, continuous and discontinuous grain growth in WC-Co and WC-VC-Co cemented carbides is investigated using the Monte Carlo computer simulation technique. The Ostwald ripening process (solution/re-precipitation) and the grain boundary migration process are assumed in the simulation as the grain growth mechanism. The effects of liquid phase fraction, grain boundary energy and implanted coarse grain are examined. At higher liquid phase content, mass transfer via solid/liquid interfaces plays a major role in grain growth. Growth rate of the implanted grain was higher than that of the matrix grains through solution/re-precipitation and coalescence with neighboring grains. The results of these simulations qualitatively agree with experimental ones and suggest that distribution of liquid phase and carbide particle/carbide grain boundary energy as well as contamination by coarse grain are important factors controlling discontinuous grain growth in WC-Co and WC-VC-Co cemented carbides. The contamination by coarse grains must by avoided in the manufacturing process of fine grain cemented carbides, especially with low Co.
Hydrogels were prepared from poly( Υ-glutamic acid) (PGA) solution by g-irradiation of 90 kGy and 170 kGy. The hydrogels were more cross-linked with a higher dosage g-irradiation and completely hydrolyzed at 85℃ within 4 hours resulting in homogeneous solution. NMR techniques were employed to clarify chemical bond formation and scission involved during γ-irradiation and hydrolysis. Characterization of these samples was carried out by taking both liquid state and solid state NMR spectra of PGA and hydrolyzed hydrogels and comparison of these spectra with the solid state NMR spectra of hydrogels. Our results indicate that complicated chemical bond formation and scission have occurred during hydrolysis and γ-irradiation. The samples prepared with higher dosage of γ-irradiation showed more diverse chemical bond formation and scission.
