In micro-channels, the electro-viscous effect is caused by the electrical double layer on pressure-driven liquid flow. Velocity fields of flow inside micro-channels were measured using micro-PIV system for investigating the electro-viscous effect. De-ionized water and aqueous NaCl solutions with four different concentrations were used as working fluid in a PDMS micro-channel of $100{\mu}m$ width and $66{\mu}m$ height. The pressure gradient, dP/dx, was determined from the pre-determined input flow rate Q of syringe pump. The mean velocity $u_m$ used for calculating Reynolds number was obtained from the PIV velocity field data. These are used to plot the pressure gradient as a function of Reynolds numbers. The pressure gradient far lower concentration solution $(10^{-5}\;M)$ was higher than that for the higher concentration solution. The increase of flow resistance was about $30\%\;and\;37.5\%$ at Re=0.02 and 0.06, respectively.
We study the rheological properties of concentrated polymer solution and the melt under simple shear and elon-gational flow using Brownian dynamicssimulation. In order to describe the anisotropic molecular motion, we modifiedthe Giesekus' mobility tensor by incorporating the finitely extensible non-linear elastic (FENE) spring force into dumbbell model. To elucidate the nature of this model, our simulation results are compared with the data of FENE-P ("P"standsfor the Perterin) dumbbell model and experiments. While in steady state both original FENE and FENE-P models exhibit a similar viscosity response, the growthof viscosity becomes dissimilar as the anisotropy decreases and the flowrate increases. The steady state viscosity obtained from the simulation well describes the experiments including the shear-thinning behavior in shear flow and viscosity-thinning behavior in elongational flow. But the growth of viscosity oforiginal FENE dumbbell model cannot describe the experimental results in both flow fields.
This analysis of numerical procedure is prediction of laminar flow and heat transfer at two dimension and steady flow in asymmetric sudden expansion channel. At former study, to analyse the flows with separation, the full Navier-Stokes equation is used, but there are many difficulties to analyse, and although significant progress has been made in the development of efficient computational methods for the Navier-Stokes equations, very large computation times are still required. In case of reward-facing flow, boundary-layer equation is used instead of full Navier-Stokes equation to analyse velocity fields, and result of this numerical analysis is good agreement with the given experimental study. In this case, since the computer time required for the boundary-layer calculation is an order of magnitude less than required for the solution of the full Navier-Stokes equation, this boundary-layer model provides a good approximate solution.
High potassium cardioplegia is a widely accepted procedure to enhance myocardial protection from ischemic injuries associated with open heart surgery. Maintaining optimum osmolarity of the cardioplegic solution is one of the required conditions for an ideal cardioplegic solution Albumin is an frequently added component for maintaining optimum osmolarity of clinically used cardioplegic solutions. But the source of albumin is human blood so that the supply is limited and the cost of manufacturing is relatively high. Recently there are moves to minimized the use of blood product for fear of blood-associated infections or immunological disorders. In this experiment, we substituted mannitol or glucose for albumin added to the cardioplegic solution which has been used at the Wonju Medical College, To determine whether addition of mannitol or glucose instead of albumin in the cardioplegic solution can produce satisfactory myocardial protection during ischemia, three different groups of isolated rat heart perfused by modified Langendorff technique were studied. Wonju Cardioplegic Solution was selected as a standard high potassium[18mEq/L of K+] cardioplegic solution. Three kinds of cardioplegic solution were made by modifying the composition maintaining the same osmolarity[339$\pm$1mOsm/Kg] Isolated rat heart were perfused initially with retrograde nonworking mode and then changed to working mode. After measuring the heart rate, systolic aortic pressure, aortic flow, coronary flow, ischemic arrest by aorta cross clamp and cardioplegia was made maintaining the temperature of water jacket at 10oC. The heart was rewarmed and reperfused after 60min of ischemic arrest with intermittent cardioplegia at the 30min interval. The time to return of heart beat and the time required to get. Regular heart beat were observed after reperfusion. The recovery rate of the functional variables-heart rate, systolic aortic pressure, aortic flow, coronary flow and cardiac output were calculated and compared among the three groups of different cardioplegia-albumin, mannitol, and glucose. The wet weight and dry weight was measured and the water content of the heart as figured out for comparison. The time to return of heart beat was fastest in the albumin group, The functional recovery rates were best in the albumin group also. In the above conditions, albumin was the best additive to the cardioplegic solution compared to the mannitol or glucose.
The conditional moment closure formulation considering the molecular and turbulent diffusion is derived. A simplified solution procedure is proposed to reduce the computational burden due to the increased dimensionality of the conditionally averaged variables. A conditionally averaged variable is expressed as a linear weighted average of the two extremes, 'no reaction' and 'equilibrium' states. The modified elliptic-type conditional moment closure formulation is implemented to simulate a two dimensional nonpremixed mixing layer reacting flow. Results show good agreement for the conditional averages of the species concentration in Bilger et al.
This paper deals with Linear Programming by Signal Flow Graph technique which is different from that of Mason and Coates. The objective function is regarded as variable, and slack variable node, artificial variable node and objective function variable (constant) node are newly defined, which shows the process for optimization of solution very intuitively. Also methods for solving L.P. and examples with subject to Ax.leq.b, Ax=b and Ax.geq.b are presented.
In this paper we reconsider the problem of steady mixed convection boundary-layer flow over a vertical flat plate studied in [6],[7] and [13]. Under favorable assumptions, we prove existence of multiple similarity solutions, we study also their asymptotic behavior. Numerical solutions are carried out using a shooting integration scheme.
This paper presents a new algorithm using power flow solution which is given by the polar form Newton-Raphson method in a transient stability analysis. The computation time to solve network equations can be much saved by a decoupled power flow method. In addition, the time is much saved in performing a approximate stability analysis by linearizing the differential equations and using a voltage and angle sensitivity matrix given in network equations.
Rheological properties of $\alpha$-rice powder were investigated in comparison with those of polished rice powder. Flow behavior for cooked solutions of two powdered samples(5~11%) were Binghampseudo plastic. Consistency index and yield stress of cooked solution of powdered a-rice were much lower than those of polished rice powder while flow behavior index was nearly similar. 9% cooked solution of powdered $\alpha$ -rice showed slightly weaker thixotrophic behavior and more ease tendency to relax under the steady shear than those of polished rice powder.
The influences of acute respiratory and metabolic acid-base disturbances on the carotid, renal and coronary blood flow were measured in dogs. Respiratory acidosis was induced by artificial respiration with 8% CO2 -02 gas mixture and respiratory alkalosis was induced by hyperventilation under the control of respirator. Metabolic acidosis and metabolic alkalosis were induced by intravenous infusion of 0.3N hydrochloric acid and 0.6M sodium bicarbonate solution. To observe the effect of hyperkalemia, isotonic potassium chloride solution was infused. CVI electromagnetic flowmeter probes were placed on the left common carotid artery, left renal artery and left circumflex coronary artery. Each flow was recorded on polygraph. 1. The carotid blood flow showed rapid showed rapid and marked increase in acute respiratory acidosis. Even in the cases when arterial blood pressure was lowered during the state of respiratory acidosis, carotid blood flow increased. By the infusion of hydrochloric acid, carotid blood flow increased slowly and returned to the previous label after discontinuation of the infusion. Carotid blood flow also increased by the infusion of large amount of sodium bicarbonate, but it might be the combined effect of expansion of extracellular fluid and compensatory elevation of carbon dioxide tension. 2.The renal blood flow remained unchanged during the acute acid-base disturbances, suggesting effective autoregulation. Renal blood flow, however, increased very slowly when the infusion of potassium chloride continued for a long period. 3.Although less marked than the carotid blood flow, the coronary blood flow increased in the acute respiratory and metabolic acidosis. In asphyxiated condition, coronary blood flow increased most markedly and this might be the combined effect of hypoxia, hypercapnea, and lowering of pH. In summary, the carotid blowflow showed more marked change in the acute respiratory and metabolic acidosis than the renal and coronary blood flow. Respiratory and metabolic components of acid-base disturbances may influence the local blood flow concomitantly, there being more differences in the individual responses, but respiratory component manifested more rapid and marked effect than metabolic component.
