The viscosity for hi-solid pressure sensitive adhesive to improve water soluble low viscosity pressure sensitive adhesive polymerized using seeded polymerization. While seed binder polymerizing it produces an optimum polymerization condition, and acrylic acid and seed binder concentration changed were measurement of viscosity variation and adhesive power at the substrate (SUS420J) as flowing results. In adhesive polymerization, seed binder concentration 7 wt%/monomer was recovered 60% of solid content, 2,100 cps of low viscosity and clear adhesive film. When acrylic acid content was 4 wt%/monomer, it was turned excellent adhesive power and holding power.
Carbon/carbon composites were developed using PAN based carbon fibres and phenolic resin as matrix in different volume fractions and heat treated to temperatures between $1000^{\circ}C$ to $2500^{\circ}C$. Although both the starting precursors are nongraphitizing hard carbons individually, their composites lead to very interesting properties e.g. x-ray diffractograms show the development of graphitic phase for composites having fibre volume fractions of 30~40%. Consequently the electrical resistivity of such composites reaches a value of $0.8\;m{\Omega}cm$, very close to highly graphitic material. However, it was found that by increasing the fibre volume fraction to 50~60%, the trend is reversed. Optical microscopy of the composites also reveals the development of strong columnar type microstructure at the fibre (matrix interface due to stress graphitization of the matrix. The study forcasts a unique possibility of producing high thermal conductivity carbon/carbon composites starting with carbon fibres in the chopped form only.
Low fuel regression rate is the main drawback of hybrid rocket which should be overcome. One of the improvement techniques to this problem is usage of a solid fuel grain with a complicated geometry port, which has been promoted owing to the recent development of additive manufacturing technologies. In the design of a hybrid rocket fuel grain with a complicated geometry port, the understanding of fuel regression behavior is very important. Numerical investigations of fuel regression behavior requires a capturing method of solid fuel surface, i.e. gas-solid interface. In this study, level set method is employed as such a method and the preliminary numerical tool for capturing a hybrid rocket solid fuel surface is developed. At first, to test the adequacy of the numerical modeling, the simulation results for circular port are compared to the experimental results in open literature. The regression rates and oxidizer to fuel ratios show good agreements between the simulations and the experiments, after passing enough time. However, during the early period of combustion, there are the discrepancies between the simulations and the experiments, owing to transient phenomena. Second, the simulations of complicated geometry ports are demonstrated. In this preliminary step, a star shape is employed as complicated geometry of port. The slot number effect in star port is investigated. The regression rate decreases with increasing the slot number, except for the star port with many slots (8 slots) in the latter half of combustion. The oxidizer to fuel ratio increases with increasing the slot number.

A level set method is combined with the volume-of-fluid method so that the coupled method can not only calculate an interfacial curvature accurately but also can achieve mass conservation well. The coupled level set and volume-of-fluid(CLSVOF) method is efficiently implemented by employing an interface reconstruction algorithm which is based on the explicit relationship between the interface configuration and the fluid volume function. The CLSVOF method is applied for numerical simulation of droplet impact on solid surfaces with variable contact angles. The numerical results are found to preserve mass conservation and to be in good agreement with the data reported in the literature. Also, the present method proved to be applicable to the complex phenomena such as breakup and rebound of a droplet.
As the size of market for electric vehicles and energy storage systems grows, the demand for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) is increasing. Currently, commercial LIBs are fabricated with liquid electrolytes, which have some safety issues such as low chemical stability, which can cause ignition of fire. As a substitute for liquid electrolytes, solid electrolytes are now being extensively studied. However, solid electrolytes have disadvantages of low ionic conductivity and high resistance at interface between electrode and electrolyte. In this study, Li7La3Zr2O12 (LLZO), one of the best ion conducting materials among oxide based solid electrolytes, is fabricated through RF-sputtering and various electrochemical properties are analyzed. Moreover, the electrochemical properties of LLZO are found to significantly improve with co-sputtered Li2O. An all-solid thin film battery is fabricated by introducing a thin film solid electrolyte and an Li4Ti5O12 (LTO) cathode; resulting electrochemical properties are also analyzed. The LLZO/Li2O (60W) sample shows a very good performance in ionic conductivity of 7.3×10-8 S/cm, with improvement in c-rate and stable cycle performance.

Laminar natural convection heat transfer from a horizontal heat exchanger tube with one infinitely long vertical plate fin has been studied by a finite-difference numerical procedure. In predicting convective heat transfer from a circular tube, the thermal boundary condition at solid fluid interface is usually assumed to be isothermal. However, in reality, the thermal boundary condition is not isothermal, and the tube has the thickness and the conductivity. So the temperature at the interface is not known a priori to the calculation. This problem has the conjugate phenomena which occur between the tube conduction and external natural convection, and between the fin conduction and external natural convection. Numerical results are obtained to determine the effects of the conductivity of solid wall and the thickness of tube wall on heat transfer. It is found that the conduction causes significant influence on the natural convection heat transfer at low K and high ${\delta}$.

Aluminum brazing needs normally careful control of temperatures due to little difference between brazing temperatures and melting temperatures of base materials. Unsuitable processing conditions such as brazing temperature, gap between brazed materials, inadequate feeding of flux, etc. can lead to occur joining defects. In this study, A357 was used as a filler metal for the brazing of pure aluminum base materials. A357 was brazed at temperatures in the semi-solid state. Interface microstructures with base materials were observed using OM and SEM/EDS and compared to conventional aluminum brazing.

A volume integral equation method (VIEM) is introduced for solving the elastostatic problems related to an unbounded isotropic elastic solid; this solid is subjected to remote uniaxial tension, and it contains multiple interacting isotropic inclusions. The method is applied to two-dimensional problems involving long parallel cylindrical inclusions. A detailed analysis of the stress field at the interface between the matrix and the central inclusion is carried out; square and hexagonal packing of the inclusions are considered. The effects of the number of isotropic inclusions and different fiber volume fractions on the stress field at the interface between the matrix and the central inclusion are also investigated in detail. The accuracy and efficiency of the method are clarified by comparing the results obtained by analytical and finite element methods. The VIEM is shown to be very accurate and effective for investigating the local stresses in composites containing isotropic fibers.
Heat transfer phenomena during inward melting process of the phase change material were studied experimentally. N-docosane paraffin [$C_{22}H_{46}$] is used for phase change material and its melting temperature is $42.5^{\circ}C$. Experiments were performed for melting of an initially no-sub cooled or subcooled solid in a horizontal cylinder, in order to compare and investigate the radial temperature distribution, ratio of melting and melted mass, various energy components stored from the cylinder wall, figure of the melting front in the horizontal cylinder. The solid-liquid interface motion during phase change was recorded photographically. The experimental results reaffirmed the dominant role played by the conduction at early stage, by the natural convection at longer time during inward melting in the horizontal cylinder. Ratio of melting and melted mass are more influenced by wall temperature, rather than by the initial temperature of solid. The latent energy is the largest contributor to the total stored energy.
We review a series of crack problems arising in the general deformations of a linearly elastic solid (Mode-I, Mode-II and Mode-III crack) and, perhaps more significantly, when the contribution of surface effects are taken into account. The surface mechanics are incorporated using the continuum based surface/interface model of Gurtin and Murdoch. We show that the deformations of an elastic solid containing a single crack can be decoupled into in-plane (Mode-I and Mode-II crack) and anti-plane (Mode-III crack) parts, even when the surface mechanics is introduced. In particular, it is shown that, in contrast to classical fracture mechanics (where surface effects are neglected), the incorporation of surface elasticity leads to the more accurate description of a finite stress at the crack tip. In addition, the corresponding stress fields exhibit strong dependency on the size of crack.
