Effects of Roasting Conditions on Physicochemical Characteristics and Volatile Flavor Components of Chicory Roots (볶음조건이 치커리의 이화학적 특성과 향기성분에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to investigate the reasonable roasting condition of chicory. Extraction and surface color development of roasted chicory were significantly influenced by roasting temperature and time, and they were increased with increasing time, and roasting at $170^{\circ}C$ showed the highest browning color development. Soluble solid contents was not affected by roasting temperature and time. Roasting for 10min at $150^{\circ}C$ exhibited the highest sensory score, at which the free sugar composition of the extract was 0.87% xylose, 0.62% fructose and 0.84% sucrose. A total of 17 volatile components were identified by GC/MSD from the dried and roasted chicories. Aldehyde, ketone and pyrazine compounds were found to be major volatile flavor components in chicory roots. It was concluded that the results of this work will be useful to determine the optimum conditions for roasting of chicory roots.

  • Mn - Zn Ferrite has the natural characteristics of incongruent melting and the zinc oxide evaporation while the crystal is being grown. As a result of these, it comes into existence to be a non-uniform distribution of cations along the crystal growth axis and also Pt particles are usually precipitated into the crystals in Bridgman method since the melt zone is maintained for a long time in the crucible. These have bad effects on the magnetic properties of ferrites. But, to overcome these faults and then acquire the better single crystals. new modified growth method was developed and the growth factors were investigated as following: melt height in the crucible, surface tension and density of melt, the behavior of melt at interface, the shapes of crucible and solid -liquid interface, powder feeding rate, and the crystal growing speed. In additon, when we analyzed the compositional fluctuations of grown crystals, they were supressed within 1.5 mol% $Fe_20_3$, 2 mol% MnO, ZnO respectively with comparing to initial composition of crystal and the microstructures of crystals on the(110) plane were observed by optical microscope through the chemical etching technique and the magnetic properties were determined.

Fabrication of porous nickel membrane for high precision gas filter (극청정 가스필터용 다공성 니켈 멤브레인의 제조)

  • Porous nickel membrane far high precision gas filter was prepared by in-situ reduced/sintered process of NiO with an addition of polymer(PMMA; polymethyl methacrylate). It showed that the porosity of Ni membrane was approximately 52%. It is similar to metal membrane which prepared using metal fiber as raw materials. The average pore diameter and porosity of Ni membrane increased as content of added polymer and decreased as elevating reduced/sintered temperature from $800^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$. Increase of porosity at $800^{\circ}C$ was associated with surface diffusion mechanism that leads to initial sintering, while decrease of porosity at $1000^{\circ}C$ was associated with lattice diffusion and grain boundary diffusion.

  • In this study, we proposed new forming process for a porous ceramic body with unique pore structure. h tubular-type porous NiO-YSZ body with radially aligned pore channels was prepared by freeze-drying of aqueous slurry. A NiO-YSZ slurry was poured into the mold, which was designed to control the crystallization direction of the ice, followed by freezing. Thereafter the ice was sublimated at a reduced pressure. SEM observations revealed that the NiO-YSZ porous body showed aligned large pore channels parallel to the ice growth direction, and fine pores are formed around the outer surface of the tube. It was considered that the difference in the ice growth rate during the freezing process resulted in such a characteristic microstructure. Bilayer consisting of dense thin electrolyte film of YSZ onto the tubular type porous body has been successfully fabricated using a slurry-coating process followed by co-firing. It was regarded that the obtained bilayer structure is suitable for constructing electrode-support type electrochemical devices such as solid oxide fuel cells.

Pt Doping Mechanism of Vanadium Oxide Cathode Film Grown on ITO Glass for Thin Film Battery

  • An all solid-state thin film battery (TFB) was fabricated by growing, undoped and Pt-doped vanadium oxide cathode film ( $V_2$ $O_{5}$ ) on I $n_2$ $O_3$: Sn coated glass, respectively. Room temperature charge-discharge measurements based on Li/Lipon/ $V_2$ $O_{5}$ full-cell structure with a constant current clearly shows that the Pt-doped $V_2$ $O_{5}$ cathode film is superior, in terms of cyclibility. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicate that the Pt doping process induces a more random amorphous structure than an undoped $V_2$ $O_{5}$ film. In addition to its modified structure, the Pt-doped $V_2$ $O_{5}$ film has a smoother surface than the undoped sample. Compared to an undoped $V_2$ $O_{5}$ film, the Pt doped $V_2$ $O_{5}$ cathode film has a higher electron conductivity. We hypothesize that the addition of Pt alters electrochemical performance in a manner of making more random amorphous structure and gives an excess electron by replacing the $V^{+5}$. Possible mechanisms are discussed for the observed Pt doping effect on structural and electrochemical properties of vanadium oxide cathode films, which are grown on I $n_2$ $O_3$: Sn coated glass.

Effects of Y2O3 Addition on Densification and Thermal Conductivity of AlN Ceramics During Spark Plasma Sintering (Y2O3 첨가가 AlN 세라믹스의 방전 플라즈마 소결 거동 및 열전도도에 미치는 영향)

  • Spark plasma sintering (SPS) of AlN ceramics were carried out with ${Y_2}{O_3}$ as sintering additive at a sintering temperature $1,550{\sim}1,700^{\circ}C$. The effect of ${Y_2}{O_3}$ addition on sintering behavior and thermal conductivity of AlN ceramics was studied. ${Y_2}{O_3}$ added AlN showed higher densification rate than pure AlN noticeably, but the formation of yttrium aluminates phases by the solid-state reaction of ${Y_2}{O_3}$ and ${Al_2}{O_3}$ existed on AlN surface could delay the densification during the sintering process. The thermal conductivity of AlN specimens was promoted by the addition of ${Y_2}{O_3}$ up to 3 wt% in spite of the formation of YAG secondary phase in AlN grain boundaries because ${Y_2}{O_3}$ addition could reduced the oxygen contents in AlN lattice which is primary factor of thermal conductivity. However, the thermal conductivity rather decreased over 3 wt% addition because an immoderate formation of YAG phases in grain boundary could decrease thermal conductivity by a phonon scattering surpassing the contribution of ${Y_2}{O_3}$ addition.

Fabrication and Characterization of PZT Suspensions for Stereolithography based on 3D Printing

  • PZT suspensions for photo-curable 3D printing were fabricated and their characteristics were evaluated. After mixing the PZT, photopolymer, photo-initiator, and dispersant for 10 min by using a high-shear mixer, the viscosity characteristics were investigated based on the powder content. To determine an appropriate dispersant content, the dispersant was mixed at 1, 3, and 5 wt% of the powder and a precipitation test was conducted for two hours. Consequently, it was confirmed that the dispersibility was excellent at 3 wt%. Through thermogravimetric analysis, it was confirmed that weight reduction occurred in the photopolymer between 120? and 500?, thereby providing a debinding heat treatment profile. The fabricated suspensions were cured using UV light, and the polymer was removed through debinding. Subsequently, the density and surface characteristics were analyzed by using the Archimedes method and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. Consequently, compared with the theoretical density, an excellent characteristic of 97% was shown at a powder content of 87 wt%. Through X-ray diffraction analysis, it was confirmed that the crystallizability improved as the solid content increased. At the mixing ratio of 87 wt% powder and 13 wt% photo-curable resin, the viscosity was 3,100 cps, confirming an appropriate viscosity characteristic as a stereolithography suspension for 3D printing.

Formulation of Fully Coupled THM Behavior in Unsaturated Soil (불포화지반에 대한 열-수리-역학 거동의 수식화)

  • Emerging issues related with fully coupled Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical (THM) behavior of unsaturated soil demand the development of a numerical tool in diverse geo-mechanical and geo-environmental areas. This paper presents general governing equations for coupled THM processes in unsaturated porous media. Coupled partial differential equations are derived from three mass balances equations (solid, water, and air), energy balance equation, and force equilibrium equation. With Galerkin formulation and time integration of these governing equations, finite element code is developed to find nonlinear solution of four main variables (displacement-u, gas pressure-$P_g$), liquid pressure-$P_1$), and temperature-T) using Newton's iterative scheme. Three cases of numerical simulations are conducted and discussed: one-dimensional drainage experiments (u-$P_g-P_1$), thermal consolidation (u-$P_1$-T), and effect of pile on surrounding soil due to surface temperature variation (u-$P_1$-T).

The Investigation of Cell Culture Conditions to Maintain Chicken Embryonic Stem Cells as Totipotent Cells

  • The ES cell can provide a useful system for studying differentiation and development in vitro and a powerful tool for producing transgenic animalds. To investigate the culture condition of chicken embryonic stem (CES) cells which can retain their multipotentiality or totipotency, three kinds of feeder layer cells, SNL cells, primary mice embryonic fibroblasts (PMEF) cells and primary chicken embryonic fibroblasts (PCEF) cells, were used as the feeder cells in media of DMEM supplemented with leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and stem cell factor (SCF) for co-culture with blastoderm cells from stage X embryos of chicken. The alkaline phosphatase (AKP) test, differentiation experiment in vitro and chimeric chicken production were carried out. The results showed that culture on feeder layer of PMEF yielded high quality CES cell colonies. The typical CES cells clone shape revealed as follows: nested aggregation (clone) with clear edge and round surface as well as close arrangement within the clone. Strong alkaline phosphatase (AKP) reactive cells were observed in the fourth passage cells. On the other hand, the fourth passage CES cells could differentiate into various cells in the absence of feeder layer cells and LIF in vitro. The third and fourth passage cells were injected into the subgerminal cavity of recipient embryos at stage X. Of 269 Hailan embryos injected with CES cells of Shouguang Chickens, 8.2% (22/269) survived to hatching, 5 feather chimeras had been produced. This suggests that an effective culture system established in this study can promote the growth of CES cells and maintain them in the state of undifferentiated and development, which lays a solid foundation for the application of CES cells and may provide an alternative tool for genetic modification of chickens.

  • This study was classified according to types added ‘Seon(선)’ to the dress of Chosun Dynasty and analyzed them into formative characteristics. the results were as follows ; 1, ‘Seon’ is divided into three types of the standard, the decoration and the application. According to three types, the types of the standard are subdivided into Jemul Seon(the shape put the right side into lining) and the different color Seon. The types of the decoration are subdivided into Stitch, Surround, Gild and Embroidery form. And the types of the application are subdivided into Piping, Fur, Braid and Metallic form. 2, It showed as the different color Seon and Jemul Seon in the case of men dress and as the different color Seon and Gild form in that of women dress. 3, Its application showed in the ceremonial dress and ‘Po(袍)’ types of men dress and in the ceremonial dress and as accessories of women dress. 4, It was used as complementary color tone in both men and women dress. 5, It was used as its surface in men dress and as its reverse side in women dress according to Seon of style. 6, It was used as ‘Sa(紗)’ in men dress and as ‘Dan(緞)’ in women dress according to Seon of texture. 7, Seon of an aesthetic characteristics was distinguished according to Seon of forms, that is to say, Jemul Seon standed for calm beauty, Two color Seon standed for dynamic beauty, Stitch, Surround and Piping form standed for delicate beauty, Gild and Embroidery form standed for brilliant beauty and Fur, Braid and Metallic form standed for solid beauty.
