Optical Performance Evaluation of SIL Assembly with Lateral Shearing Interferometer (층 밀리 간섭계를 이용한 고체침지렌즈의 광학적 성능 평가)

  • There has been studied flow to minimize the spot size to increase data capacity. Optical data storage devices are being developed near practical limits with wavelength and NA of 405nm and 0.85. There has been studied many types of next generation storage devices such as blu-ray multilayer system, probe based data storage and holographic data storage. Among these data storage devices, solid immersion lens(SIL) based near field recording (NFR) has been widely studied. In this system, SIL is the key component that focuses the laser beam with a very small size which enables ultra high data capacity. Therefore, optical performance evaluation system is required for SIL assembly. In this dissertation, a simple and accurate SIL assembly measurement method is proposed with wedge plate lateral shearing interferometer(LSI). Wedge plate LSI is cheaper than commercialized interferometer, robust to the vibration and the moving distance for phase shifting is large that is order of micrometer. We designed the thickness, wedge angle, material, surface quality and wavelength of wedge plate as 1mm, 0.02degree, fused silica, lamda/10(10-5) and 405nm, respectively. Also, we confirmed simulation and experimental results with quantitative analysis. This simple wedge plate LSI can be applied to different types of SIL such as solid immersion mirror(SIM), hemispherical, super-hemispherical and elliptical SIL.

  • This paper is the fundamental study for the application of cold storage system to the transportation equipment by sea and land. This numerical study presents the solid-liquid phase change phenomenon of calcium chloride solution of 30wt %. The governing equations are 1-dimensional unsteady state heat transfer equations of $1^{st}$ order partial differential equations. This type of latent heat storage material is often usable in fishery vessel for controlling the temperature of container with constant condition. The governing equation was discretized with finite difference method and the program was composed with Mathcad program. The main parameters of this solution were the initial temperature of heat storage material, ambient temperature of cold air and the velocity of cold air. The data of boundary layer thickness becomes thin with the increasing of cold air flowing velocity and also the heat storage completion time become shorten.

  • All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), vitamin A acid, has been shown to exert anticancer activity in a number of types of cancers, particularly in acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL). Due to its highly variable bioavailability and induction of its own metabolism after oral treatment, development of parenteral dosage forms are required. However, its poor aqueous solubility and chemical unstability give major drawbacks in parenteral administration. This study was undertaken to investigate a possibility to develop a parenteral formulation of ATRA by employing solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN) as a carrier. By optimizing the production parameters and the composition of SLNs, SLNs with desired mean particle size (<100 nm) as a parenteral dosage form could be produced from trimyristin (as solid lipid), Egg phosphatidylcholine and Tween 80 (as SLN stabilizer). The mean particle size of SLN formulation of ATRA was not changed during storage, suggesting its physical stability. Thermal analysis confirmed that the inner lipid core of SLNs exist at solid state. The mean particle size of ATRA-loaded SLNs was not significantly changed by the lyophilization process. ATRA could be efficiently loaded in SLNs, while maintaining its anticancer activity against HL-60, a well-known APL cell line. Furthermore, by lyophilization, ATRA loaded in SLN could be retained chemically stable during storage. Taken together, our present study demonstrates that physically and chemically stable ATRA formulation adequate for parenteral administration could be obtained by employing SLN technology.

  • Solid dispersion, defined as the dispersion of one or more active ingredient in a carrier or matrix at solid state, is an efficient strategy for improving dissolution of poorly water-soluble drugs for enhancement of their bioavailability. Compared to other conventional formulations such as tablets or capsules, solid dispersion which can be prepared by various methods has many advantages. However, despite numerous studies which have been carried out, limitations for commercializing these products remain to be solved. For example, during the manufacturing process or storage, amorphous form of solid dispersion can be converted into crystalline form. That is, the dissolution rate of solid dispersion would continuously decrease during storage, resulting in a product of no value. To resolve these problems, studies have been conducted on the effects of excipients. In fact, modification of the solid dispersions to overcome these disadvantages has progressed from the first generation to the recent third generation products. In this review, an overview on solid dispersions in general will be given with emphasis on the various manufacturing processes which include the use of polymers and on the stabilization strategies which include methods to prevent crystallization.

Effect of High Concentration Carbon Dioxide and Pre-Cooling Treated with Solid Carbon Dioxide on the Storability of Radish Sprout in MA Storage (고체 이산화탄소를 이용한 고농도 이산화탄소와 예냉 처리가 싹채소의 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • The solid carbon dioxide used for prolongation shelf life of radish sprout that was just 7days. The developed equipment for treated carbon dioxide consisted of solid carbon dioxide evaporated part and high carbon dioxide and low temperature treated part that can hold products. The inner temperature of equipment decreased temperature to below $5^{\circ}C$ from room temperature for 10minutes and carbon dioxide concentration increased to 80%. The radish sprouts treated 4 different conditions that was nontreated condition (control), solid carbon dioxide put into package (CO2-1), solid carbon dioxide treated before storage using the developed equipment (CO2-2), solid carbon dioxide treated before storage and during storage, and sprout packaged with solid carbon dioxide (CO2-3). These radish sprout packaged with $25{\mu}m$ ceramic film stored at $8^{\circ}C$. The high carbon dioxide treatment did not affect the fresh weight loss. The carbon dioxide and oxygen content in package changed 40% and 10%, respectively in CO2-1 and CO2-2 at 1day after treatments. But carbon dioxide content of all treatments was decreased to 5% and stabilized. The high carbon dioxide showed the effect of reduction ethylene production, but did not affect to visual quality and offodor.

Heat Transfer Characteristics for Inward Melting in a Paraffin-Filled Vertical Cylinder (파라핀을 채운 수직원관 내에서의 열전달 특성)

  • Heat transfer characteristics and heat storage rate for vertical cylinder packed with paraffin as a latent heat storage material were theoretically studied. Conduction and convection mechanism were applied to the solid and liquid phase, respectively, and the results were compared with that of pure conduction model. The effects of heating temperature, initial solid temperature and aspect ratio on rate of storage were also studied. In the initial stage of melting, the natural convection is nearly restricted by the friction at the wall and the phase boundary. But it is generated when about 40% of solid melts and again it shrinks by the hot liquid situated on the upper part of the cylinder. So overall melting rate is higher then that for pure conduction model. The increase in heating temperature and aspect ratio activates the natural convection, so melting rate becomes higher. And the larger the aspect ratio, the greater the difference between upper and lower size of the solid. In the initial stage of melting, the initial temperature of solid paraffin has great effect on the melting rate, but as melting proceeds its effect lessens gradually.

  • Ammonia borane ($NH_3BH_3$), as a source material for energy generation and hydrogen storage, has attracted growing interest due to its high hydrogen content. We have investigated the synthesis of ammonia borane from sodium borohydride ($NaBH_4$) and ammonium chloride ($NH_4Cl$) utilizing a low-temperature process. From our results, we obtained a maximum synthetic yield of 98.2% of ammonia borane complex. The diammoniate diborane (DADB) was detected in about 5~10mol% with in the solid ammonia borane by solid-state $^{11}B$-NMR analysis. The synthesized solid ammonia borane products were studied to characterize hydrogen release upon thermal dehydrogenation.

  • In conventional optical data storage numerical aperture (NA) cannot be over 1 because of diffraction limit. To overcome this limitation. solid immersion lens(SIL) have produced a great interest in near-field optical data storage. In conventional optical recording method, the dual lens system using object lens and SIL had been studied generally. But the conventional SIL system has some critical problems that must be solved. The problems are heat, contamination. alignment of optical components and so on. To solve these problems. this work proposes enhanced SIL which has several advantages for mechanical and optical issues. This new SIL system named elliptic SIL(ESIL) can use evanescent energy in near-field more effectively. In addition. because of applying the inside recording unlike previous surface recording, ESIL can clear up the problems. The design and analysis of ESIL art executed by using CODE V. Also, in this paper we composed actual data recording system and achieved recording experiment by applying ESIL to magneto-optical recording. In conclusion. we analyze the improvement of aerial density and the reasonability of application to real data storage system.

Development of an Odor Abatement System for Swine Manure Treatment Facilities

  • This study was conducted to solve the problem of public grievance owing to odor of a pig farm. Odor emissions from pig production systems mainly originate from liquid manure storage and solid manure fermentation. The low-cost odor abatement system (OAS) for application at liquid manure storage tank and solid manure fermentation facilities was developed in this study. The OAS adapted odor removing principles of a biofilter and biotrickling filter. The OAS is very simplified in structure. The appearance of the OAS had a form of cylindrical or cubical shape. The system performance was monitored for about one year after stabilization. A 7 seconds empty bed contact time for the OAS was adapted to achieve the odor reduction levels. The commercial type of OAS was constructed with media comprised of wood chips. Moisture content always remained above 50% wet basis. Average ammonia removal efficiency for the developed design was 89% at the liquid manure storage tank. Also, the removal efficiency at a solid manure fermentation facility was 86% on ammonia.

Evaluation of Volatile Compounds Isolated from Pork Loin (Longissimus dorsi) as Affected by Fiber Type of Solid-phase Microextraction (SPME), Preheating and Storage Time

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of heating, fiber type used in solid-phase microextraction (SPME, two phase vs three phase) and storage time on the volatile compounds of porcine M. longissimus dorsi (LD). Volatile compounds were measured using a gas chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC/MS) with a quadrupole mass analyzer. Among the volatile compounds identified, aldehydes (49.33%), alcohols (24.63%) and ketones (9.85%) were higher in pre-heated loins ($100^{\circ}C$/30 min), whereas, alcohols (34.33%), hydrocarbons (22.84%) and ketones (16.88%) were higher in non-heated loins. Heating of loins induced the formation of various volatile compounds such as aldehydes (hexanal) and alcohols. The total contents of hydrocarbons, alcohols, and carboxylic acids were higher in two phase fibers, whereas those of esters tended to be higher in three-phase fibers (p<0.05). Most volatile compounds increased (p<0.05) with increased storage time. Thus, the analysis of volatile compounds were affected by the fiber type, while heating and refrigerated storage of pork M. longissimus dorsi increased the volatile compounds derived from lipid oxidation and amino acid catabolism, respectively.
