우리나라 역대 초등학교 교과서에서 다루어진 '지구과학' 영역의 중심개념과 탐구활동 분석 및 차기 교과서 개선 방안 모색 (An Analysis of Concepts and Inquiry Activities related to the 'Earth Science' Area in the South Korean Elementary School Textbooks to the Current & A Study on the Improvement of Future Textbook)

  • This study aimed to analysis of concepts and inquiry activities related to the 'Earth Science' area in the South Korean elementary school textbooks to the current and to seek the improvement of future textbook. For the study, we were collected South Korean elementary school textbooks to the current. After the collection had been made, we were analyzed related to the 'Earth' area in the South Korean elementary school textbooks and were extracted central concepts and inquiry activities. The result of this study: First, there were 'A change in the land', 'Strata and Fossil', 'Volcanoes and Earthquakes', 'Earth and Moon', 'The weather', 'The Solar system and the Star', and 'Seasonal Change' in the central concepts related to the 'Earth' area in the South Korean elementary school textbooks to the current. Second, central concepts were almost the same but the curriculum was changed. Third, inquiry activities also were confirmed to be maintained with little change. This result was believed that it can provide a variety of suggestions at this point in changing the curriculum.

물때의 실용화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Use of the Lunar Principle of MULDAE as a Predictor of Tidal Phenomenon)

  • Tidal phenomenon can be utilized by the wise and cautious mariner to safely perform his duties as pilot and navigator. It can be either a help or hindrance to the mariner. The principle of MULDAE which expresses the determination of the state of the tide based upon knowledge of the lunar date and it has been used in Korea since ancient times. The folk method of calculation was essentially based on an unsystematic division of the lunar month, traditionally using the numbers 7 or 8. As the lunar cycle is complete in 15 days the tidal cycle should also correspondence closely to the lunar date. This paper represents the first scientific attempt to systematically investigate this unique traditional method of tidal calculation and contains a comparison of the MULDAE and ordinary (solar based) tide calculation methods. MULDAE was compared with the standard tide table for standard and island ports in Korea from 1982 to 1985. This study concluded that MULDAE was indeed an accurate adn reliable predictor of tidal activity. Furthermore, the number 6 was found to be the correct divisor upon which to base MULDAE calculations Also a formula expressing MULDAE as a function was discovered. This research show that MULDAE can be applied nationwide and is a reliable and easy way to predict tides based upon mean figures for certain ports and island A calender showing MULDAE is presented here for the first time. A clear relationship between the MULDAE method of calculating tides and the use of ordinary tide tables is proven.

  • Cosmic Ray Experiment (CRE)는 KITSAT-1 의 여 러 module 중 하나로 Total D Dose Experiment (TDE) 와 Cosmic Particle Experiment (CPE) 두개의 sub-system 으로 구성되어 있다. CRE 의 목적은 KITSAT-1 궤도에서의 우주 환경을 조사하는 것이다. KITSAT-1 의 궤도는 inner Van Allen belt에 위치하며, 이 지역 에셔는 고에너지 proton들이 많이 분포하고 있어 위성체에 단기적인 또는 장기적인 radiation 효과를 미치고 있다. 1년여의 설험 결과로부터 Van Allen belt가 무척 안정되어 있고 태양의 활동이 CPE,TDE 및 SEU (Single Event Upset) rate 에 영향을 줌을 알 수 있었다. 또한 CREME code 에 의해 예상됐던 것보다 많은 고에너지 입자 flux가 관찰되었다.

The effect of field-line twist on the dynamic nature and electric current structure of emerging magnetic field on the Sun

  • We use three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations to investigate how the dynamic state of emerging magnetic field is related to the twist of field lines. Emergence of magnetic field is considered as one of the key physical process producing solar activity such as flares, jets, and coronal mass ejections. To understand these activities we have to know dynamic nature and electric current structure provided by emerging magnetic field. To demonstrate dynamic nature of field lines, we focus on the factors such as curvature of magnetic field line and scale height of magnetic field strength. These factors show that strong twist case forms two-part structure in which the central part is close to a force-free state while the outer marginal part is in a fairly dynamic state. For weak twist case, it still shows two-part structure but the tendency becomes weaker than strong twist case. We discuss how the curvature distribution affects the dynamic nature of emerging magnetic field. We also investigate electric current distribution provided by emerging field lines to show a possible relation between electric current structure and sigmoid observed in a preflare phase.

Submillimeter Observations of the Infrared Dark Cloud G049.40-00.01

  • Infrared dark clouds(IRDCs) are believed to be the progenitors of massive stars and clusters. We obtained 350 and 850 ${\mu}m$ continuum maps of the IRDC G049.40-00.01 using SHARC-II on CSO. Twenty-one dense clumps were identified within G049.40-00.01 based on the 350 ${\mu}m$ continuum map with an angular resolution of about 9.6". We present submillimeter continuum maps and report physical properties of the clumps. The masses of clumps are from 50 to 600 solar mass. About 70% of the clumps are associated with bright 24 ${\mu}m$ emission sources indicating protostars. The most massive two clumps show enhanced, extended 4.5 ${\mu}m$ emission representing on-going star forming activity. The size-mass distribution of the clumps suggests that many of them are forming high-mass stars. G049.40-00.01 contains numerous objects in various evolutionary stages of star formation, from pre-stellar clumps to H II regions.

NiFeOx co-catalyzed BiVO4 photoanode for improved photoelectrochemical water splitting

  • PEC (photoelectrochemical) water splitting for $O_2/H_2$ production is one of the promising but difficult way to utilize solar energy. Among photocatalytic materials for PEC water oxidation, $BiVO_4$ (Eg = 2.4 eV) has been recently intensively studied since it has various advantageous properties. But its maximum efficiency has not been realized owing to kinetic factors - slow water oxidation at surface & insufficient stability. These problems can be simultaneously solved by application of oxygen evolution catalyst (OEC) such as $CoO_x$, Co-Pi, $IrO_x$ etc. Herein we report the first successful application of $NiFeO_x$ OEC on $BiVO_4$, showing good performance compared to other effective OEC applied on $BiVO_4$ under basic conditions. The enhanced activity of OEC loaded $BiVO_4$ has been supported by the surface charge separation efficiency and electrochemical impedance studies.

이온전도성 세라믹 기반 고온 전기화학 멤브레인 반응기 응용기술 (Electrochemical Ceramic Membrane Reactors)

  • 멤브레인 반응기는 멤브레인과 반응기를 결합하여 반응과 분리의 단위공정을 하나로 결합함으로써 전체공정을 단순화하고 반응효율을 높이고자 하는 혁신 기술로써, 멤브레인을 이용한 생성물의 선택적 제거를 통해 열역학적 평형을 뛰어넘는 전환율, 부반응물 생성 억제에 의한 반응 효율 및 선택성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 특히 이온전도성 세라믹을 이용한 멤브레인 반응기는 연료전지의 개발, 고순도 산소/수소의 분리/정제, 이산화탄소의 전환 및 다양한 화학제품제조에 까지 응용될 수 있기 때문에 시장의 확대와 더불어 크게 발전할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. 본 총설에서는 수소이온 전도성 세라믹 멤브레인 반응기에 대한 연구동향과 다양한 응용분야 및 향후 전망 등에 고찰해 보고자 한다.

고호염성 Haloarcular sp. EH-1으로 부터 amylase 생산 (Amylase Production from Haloarcular sp. EH-1)

  • 천일염에서 분리된 고호염성균인 Hainrcular sp. EH-1 으로부터 amylase 생성을 위한 배양조건을 검토하여 최적조건을 설정하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 아밀라아제 생산을 위한 배양 조건은 4$0^{\circ}C$, pH 7.5이었으며, 최적 생육배지를 soluble starch 1.5%, yeast extract 1.0%, MgSO$_4$7$H_2O$ 2.0%, KCI 0.1%, NaCl 25%로 조성하여 500 $m\ell$ 삼각 플라스크에 100 $m\ell$ 씩 분주하여 110 rpm/min으로 진탕 배양시켰다. 생육과 효소활성은 9일 배양 후 최대치를 나타내어서, 균의 생육정도와 효소생산 사이에서 증식연관형을 나타내었다.

태양광 수소 생산용 CdS와 CdSe 흡착 TiO2 나노튜브 어레이 (TiO2 Nanotube Arrays Sensitized with CdS and CdSe for Solar Hydrogen Production)

  • In this work we report investigation results of enhanced visible light photocatalytic properties of CdS and CdSe sensitized $TiO_2$ nanotube heterostructures. Anodically grown ordered $TiO_2$ nanotube arrays were sensitized with CdS and CdSe by using successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction method. Photocatalytic measurements revealed that heterostructured samples show enhanced photocurrent density under the visible light illumination. Improved visible light performance of the heterostuctures was explained by lower band gap of the CdS and CdSe and their favorable conduction band positions relative to $TiO_2$. Moreover, due to the lower band gap of the CdSe (1.7 eV) compared to CdS (2.4 eV), both photocurrent density and photoconversion efficiency results showed superior activity.

PbS/ZnO/TiO2 나노복합체의 광촉매 특성 (Photocatalytic Characteristics of PbS/ZnO/TiO2 Nanotube Composite)

  • To improve photocatalytic performance, a $PbS/ZnO/TiO_2$ nanotube catalyst was synthesized, and its surface characteristics and photocatalytic efficiency were investigated. The hybrid photocatalysts were produced by anodic oxidation and successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction(SILAR). The photocatalytic efficiency was evaluated using the dye degradation rate. The $PbS/ZnO/TiO_2$ photocatalyst significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity for dye degradation, which was ascribed to the synergistic effect of their better absorption of solar light and a decrease in the rate of excited electron-hole recombination.
