  • Water inrush and mud outburst always restricts the tunnel constructions in mountain area, which becomes a major geological barrier against the development of underground engineering. In view of the complex disaster-causing mechanism and difficult quantitative predictions of water inrush and mud outburst, several theoretical methods are adopted to realize dynamic assessment of water inrush in the progressive process of tunnel construction. Concerning both the geological condition and construction situation, eleven risk factors are quantitatively described and an assessment system is developed to evaluate the water inrush risk. In the static assessment, the weights of eight risk factors about the geological condition are determined using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). Each factor is scored by experts and the synthesis scores are weighted. The risk level is ultimately determined based on the scoring outcome which is derived from the sum of products of weights and comprehensive scores. In the secondary assessment, the eight risk factors in static assessment and three factors about construction situation are quantitatively analyzed using fuzzy evaluation method. Subordinate levels and weight of factors are prepared and then used to calculate the comprehensive subordinate degree and risk level. In the dynamic assessment, the classical field of the eleven risk factors is normalized by using the extension evaluation method. From the input of the matter-element, weights of risk factors are determined and correlation analysis is carried out to determine the risk level. This system has been applied to the dynamic assessment of water inrush during construction of the Yuanliangshan tunnel of Yuhuai Railway. The assessment results are consistent with the actual excavation, which verifies the rationality and feasibility of the software. The developed system is believed capable to be back-up and applied for risk assessment of water inrush in the underground engineering construction.

  • A form of data mining software, based on manufacturing-based IIoT environment with the development of IT technologies are increasingly growing. However, it is difficult to evaluate the software quality in the same form as general software due to the characteristics of the software of a manufacturing company that has a large amount of data that needs to be carried out with big data and data mining. In addition, in a manufacturing-based environment where heterogeneous equipment and software are mixed, it is difficult to perform quality judgment on software used by applying existing quality characteristics. Therefore, in this paper, the characteristics of the manufacturing base are investigated, and a software quality evaluation model suitable for it is developed and evaluated.

  • It is inevitable to control the systematic failure to obtain the software safety integrity of embedded software installed in rolling stock. Because it is not possible to assess systematic failure integrity by quantitative methods, SILs are used to group documentation, methods, tools and techniques throughout software development lifecycle which, when used effectively, are considered to provide an appropriate level of confidence in the realization of a system to a stated integrity level. Normally, safety approval process is through generic product, generic application and specification application for. For safety approval on generic application of software based system, it is required to apply the certified software processes from the planning stage for the assigned SIL. As such, we will develop project specific application with high safety integrity within time limit of contractual delivery schedule through software assessment to the modified area with the re-use of certified software module and documentation. At this point, Hyundai Rotem has developed software processes applicable to support SIL 4 based on EN50128 which was assessed and certified by TUV SUD. This paper introduces the Hyundai Rotem's detailed approach and prospective action to achieve software safety integrity level.

  • The process of correcting, upgrading, and improving software products after they have been handed over to the consumer is known as software maintenance. Offshore software maintenance outsourcing (OSMO) clients benefit from cost savings, time savings, and improved quality software through OSMO. In most circumstances, the OSMO vendor makes a lot of money but not in all the cases. Especially, when the OSMO project offer is not properly assessed. An efficient outsourcing contract might yield successful outcomes for outsourced projects. But before sending a detailed proposal to bid on the OSMO project the vendor must have to assess the client's project (business offer) requirements. The purpose of this study is to find out common trends within the assessment of a OSMO project. A case study approach along with semi-structured interviews from eight companies concluded ten common practices and several roles. Among these practices, four (code structure, requirements, communication barriers and required infrastructure) were consistent amongst the responses .The findings, limitations and future work are discussed.

  • As a global effort to conservate the environment, life cycle assessment(LCA) which considers the environmental impact through the life cycle of a product, from acquiring of resources to scrapping, has been actively applied. The LCA is a tool to calculate quantitatively the environmental impacts caused by products or services through their life cycles. The list of numerous data should be analyzed, stored and conducted in order to assess the environmental impacts. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a software for LCA, which can perform the interpretation as well as the environment impact assessment to execute the analysis of such a large number of data effectively. At this time, for the existing some kinds of general LCA softwares, the information about all of input and output should be fed directly and the conclusion is deduced by linking to the database from the public authorized organizations. That makes it possible to evaluate the environmental grades accurately, but it is too slow and difficult for general users to operate and applied it into an electric motor unit(EMU). Therefore, in this research, the basic model was designed, which is based on construction of database structure of the software and organization of architecture, to develop an advanced software for EMU according to user and purpose of it by benchmarking of domestic and international softwares. The result of this study would be applied to develop the LCA software in the future.

  • Many accidents occur on the oceans. Accidents involving ships can cause enormous damage. When an accident occurs, the cost of environmental restoration can bankrupt even a top-ranked international company. The potential damages resulting from ship accidents have resulted in many international agreements such as MARPOL, SOLAS, ISM Code, etc. The viability of damaged ships has become more and more important. A damaged ship's viability and cargo safety can be improved by a safety assessment design procedure. We consider th£ shipbuilding industry's distributed characteristics to define a safety assessment system with software engineering-based requirements analysis. We used a distributed network-based simulation method (HLA - High level architecture), because of ease of reuse and expansion of existing components to other situations, and because it is a military standard. HLA is the standard for distributed network-based simulation in many countries including the United States, Canada, Israel, and Korea. The paper describes research to develop a prototype of a network-based safety assessment simulation system by software engineering based analysis.

  • Reliability in safety-critical systems and equipment is of vital importance, so the probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) has been widely used for many years in the nuclear industry to address reliability in a quantitative manner. As many nuclear power plants (NPPs) become digitalized, evaluating the reliability of safety-critical software has become an emerging issue. Due to a lack of available methods, in many conventional PSA models only hardware reliability is addressed with the assumption that software reliability is perfect or very high compared to hardware reliability. This study focused on developing a new method of safety-critical software reliability quantification, derived from hardware-software integrated environment testing. Since the complexity of hardware and software interaction makes the possible number of test cases for exhaustive testing well beyond a practically achievable range, an importance-oriented testing method that assures the most efficient test coverage was developed. Application to the test of an actual NPP reactor protection system demonstrated the applicability of the developed method and provided insight into complex software-based system reliability.
