Like natural climate change on the planet earth, the climate in software development environments is also changing (fast). Like the natural weather, the software environment is also disruptive. As the climate experts alert and suggest taking necessary measures to overcome certain challenges to make this earth a safer and comfortable living place, likewise this article also alerts the relevant stakeholders of software craftsmanship about the dynamic challenges that traditional Software Engineering (SE) with purely "Engineering mind-set" is not capable to respond. Hence, some new thoughts to overcome such challenges are shared. Fundamentally, based on the historical evidences, this article presents the authors' observation about continuous shift from traditional "Engineering-based" software development approaches to disruptive approaches - "Vibrant Softology". The authors see the cause of this shift as disruptive transformational force, which is so powerful that it is uncontrollably diminishing the "Engineering-based" approach from software development environments. The authors align it with climate change analogy. Based on this analogy, the authors feel the need to theoretically re-coin the notion of SE to some new term; perhaps Vibrant/Dynamic Softology (VS or DS). Hence, the authors suggest "a new (disruptive and dynamic) way of thinking is required to develop software". It is worth mentioning that the purpose of article and this new theory is not to disparage the notion of software engineering altogether, rather the aim is to highlight the importance of transformation from SE to its next level (perhaps VS/DS) due to the emerging needs in the software craftsmanship environment.
In this paper, we propose a reliability estimation method for DI&C systems. At the system level, a fault tree model is suggested and Boolean algebra is used to obtain the minimal cut sets. At the component level, an exponential distribution is used to model hardware failures, and Bayesian estimation is suggested to estimate the failure rate. Additionally, a binomial distribution is used to model software failures, and a recently developed software reliability estimation method is suggested to estimate the software failure rate. The overall system reliability is then estimated based on minimal cut sets, hardware failure rates and software failure rates.

SONICS is the software developed by authors. The program provides the noise level in outdoors due to various noise source types : construction machines including blast sources, railroad vehicles and automobiles. h operates in the Windows system. Since the software is compiled by using Visual C++ 4.0, users can run the program interactively. Also SONICS uses Windows' dialog-box and choice-button so that a novice user can easily implement the program for the environmental noise planning.
We propose the model of Software Rejuvenation methodology, which is applicable for survivability. Software rejuvenation is a proactive fault management technique and being used in fault tolerant systems as a cost effective technique for dealing with software faults. Survivability focuses on delivery of essential services and preservation of essential assets, even systems are penetrated and compromised. Thus, our objective is to detect the intrusions in a real time and survive in face of such attacks. As we deterrent against an attack in a system level, the Intrusion tolerance could be maximized at the target environment. We address the optimal time to execute ad hoc software rejuvenation and we compute it by using the semi Markov process. This is one way that could be really frustrated and deterred the attacks, as the attacker can't make their progress. This Software Rejuvenation method can be very effective under the assumption of unknown attacks. In this paper, we compute the optimum time to perform an ad hoc Software Rejuvenation through intrusions.
The role of software process is getting more important to make good quality softwares. One of the measures to improve the software process is Defect Removal Efficiency(DRE). DRE gives a measure of the development team ability to remove defects prior to release. It is calculated as a ratio of defects resolved to total number of defects found. Software Engineering Levels are usually decided by CMMI Model. The model is designed to help organizations improve their software product and service development, acquisition, and maintenance processes. The score of software engineering levels can be calculated by CMMI model. The levels are composed of the three groups(absent, average, and advanced). This study is to find if there is any difference among the three categories in term of the result of software engineering levels on DRE. We propose One way ANOVA to analyze influence of software engineering levels on DRE. Bootstrap method is also used to estimate the sampling distribution of the original sample because the data are not sampled randomly. The method is a statistical method for estimating the sampling distribution of an estimator by sampling with replacement from the original sample. The data were collected in 106 software development projects by the survey. The result of this study tells that there is some difference of DRE among the groups. The higher the software engineering level of a specific company becomes, the better its DRE gets, which means that the companies trying to improve software process can increase their good management performance.
This paper describes an interactive educational software developed at Konkuk University. This software provides an educational opportunity for electrical engineering students at the junior level to expand their knowledge about fault analysis in power systems. The developed educational software has three main modules: 1) Z-building, 2) setting the type and location of the fault, 3) displaying the calculated fault currents, according to the given simulation options. The main features of this tool are the diversification of acquisition network data, the function of learning about the z-building procedures, and the dynamic display function of state vectors-all voltage/current phasor. To verity the effectiveness of the developed educational software, some case studies are performed.
Many accidents occur on the oceans. Accidents involving ships can cause enormous damage. When an accident occurs, the cost of environmental restoration can bankrupt even a top-ranked international company. The potential damages resulting from ship accidents have resulted in many international agreements such as MARPOL, SOLAS, ISM Code, etc. The viability of damaged ships has become more and more important. A damaged ship's viability and cargo safety can be improved by a safety assessment design procedure. We consider th£ shipbuilding industry's distributed characteristics to define a safety assessment system with software engineering-based requirements analysis. We used a distributed network-based simulation method (HLA - High level architecture), because of ease of reuse and expansion of existing components to other situations, and because it is a military standard. HLA is the standard for distributed network-based simulation in many countries including the United States, Canada, Israel, and Korea. The paper describes research to develop a prototype of a network-based safety assessment simulation system by software engineering based analysis.
This paper developed an operating software for the manufacturing cell of a model plant. The model plant, which was manufactured by Fishertechnik, consists of an assembly cell, a machining cell, and supplementary material handling equipments. Each I/O module of the model plant communicates with the INTERBUS controller devices via High-level Language Interface(HLI). The machining center has two machining cells, which consists of 4 machines respectively, two 3-axis portal transporters, and a rail guided vehicle(RGV). The Petri-Net was used to investigate the dynamics of each machining cell, e.g., the relation of material handling equipments and machines. The operating software was analyzed and designed by Object Oriented Technique. The software was implemented using Delphi 3.0 under Windows 95/NT operating system.

In order to reuse a register transfer level (RTL)-based IP block, it takes another architectural exploration in which the RTL will be put, and it also takes virtual platforms to develop the driver and applications software. Due to the increasing demands of new technology, the hardware and software complexity of organizing embedded systems is growing rapidly. Accordingly, the traditional design methodology cannot stand up forever to designing complex devices. In this paper, I introduce an electronic system level (ESL)-based approach to designing complex hardware with a derivative of SystemVerilog. I adopted the concept of reuse with higher levels of abstraction of the ESL language than traditional HDLs to design multiplication server farms. Using the concept of ESL, I successfully implemented server farms as well as a test bench in one simulation environment. It would have cost a number of Verilog/C simulations if I had followed the traditional way, which would have required much more time and effort.
