JSP(Jumbo Super Pile) method is a foundation treatment of mixing in depth, one of the soft ground improvement methods through which settlement and deformation of ground foundation is prevented. An example of this method which is applied for the foundation design of a new drainage pumping station is Introduced, and another applied example for an existing pumping station which is built on soft foundation is also introduced.
The purpose of this study is to improve construction cost, time, and field management when constructing a road on soft soil foundation by eliminating extra-banking of subgrade layer after completion of the consolidation process. The subgrade layer was pre-constructed before the soft ground improvement. And then it was confirmed by the field test that the compaction effect was maintained or not after consolidation settlement. As a result of the experiment, all subgrade layers were kept constant except for the top subgrade layer. So it would be advantageous to secure economical and practical in road construction if subgrade layers were constructed exclusive of the top subgrade layer.
This study is to evaluate an application of technology to the soft ground stability using quick lime pile in the field. We investigated properties of Korean quick lime by conducting loading test and theoretical consideration about a principle and property of soft ground improvement by quicklime. According to the test results, it was estimated that quick lime pile method has dehydration effect by absorption of quick lime, consolidation effect by swelling of pile, increasing bearing by strength of pile itself and decreasing sinking effect, etc. A material property of quick lime is favorable for construction and considerable strength. In the case of higher strength is required, using cement as additive would increase material strength.

As soft grounds have complex engineering properties that the load bearing capacity is low and high compressibility, it needs to solve this problems prior to structures are constructed by the method of improvement of soft ground. Generally, the sand mat is used to as a horizontal drain material and loading base for soft ground improvement work. However, as the natural environment can be damaged by sand pickings of large quantity and the volume which is enormous and an amount of demanded sand is increased, it is state of short in supply. This paper presents the result of field experimental test to use Precious Slag Ball to solve these issues instead of sand mat as the replacing material. This study evaluated the performance of Precious Slag Ball as a sand mat in terms of discharge capacity, settlement, and settlement through the K-Embank program.
With the increasing use of geotextile mats in dredging and reclaiming work and coastal construction, the assessment of bearing capacity in soft ground has become an important evaluation index for negligent accidents. The review of the allowable bearing capacity of soft ground consisting of inhomogeneous layers by laying geotextile mats and sand mat layers for soft ground improvement is generally compared with the equation of Meyerhof (1974) and Yamanouchi (1985). Mayerhof formula results in economic loss due to underestimation of bearing capacity, and Yamanouchi (1985) formula does not take into account negligent accidents for punching shear failure, so rather high bearing capacity is evaluated. It is considered that economic feasibility and stability will be ensured by proposing a modified formula to calculate the appropriate bearing capacity by applying the seam tensile strength of the geotextile mat to the design standard of soft ground improvement.
In the case of construction on soft ground - such as national expressways sponsored by Social Overhead Capital (SOC) - many problems occur due to excessive settlement: therefore, an accurate settlement prediction has a major impact on the selection of improvement methods, project budget and construction period. Most of the settlement prediction methods currently used in projects apply Terzaghi's Theory of One-Dimensional Consolidation which assumes the uniformity of the depth of the soft ground. However, the results of soft ground settlement predictions vary when the target layer is divided into multiple horizontal layers. This study analyzed the change in the consolidation settlement behavior according to the horizontal division of soft ground as well as with different loading height.
Design techniques for the deep mixing method, one of the soft ground improvement methods, include two ways to interpret the ground as composite ground and pile ground. However, since comparative studies on these two approaches are insufficient, it is difficult to clearly define the analysis criteria in the design. In this study, two-dimensional and three-dimensional analyses have been performed with different conditions. The three conditions, the embankment height, depth of soft ground, and replacement ratio of reinforcement zones were varied and the analysis was performed on the basis of the assumption of composite ground and pile ground for each condition. As a result, the minimum depth of improvement in the two-dimensional analysis was deeper by 6.85~9.08% than in the three-dimensional analysis. The pile ground analysis showed that the depth of improvement was deeper by 12.22~14.45% than the composite ground analysis. Based on these results, it is concluded that for more accurate design, three-dimensional analysis should be performed rather than two-dimensional analysis. also, it is judged that necessary to analyze the ground as composite ground for economical design, and as the pile ground analysis for stable design.
The purpose of this research is to assess the application of recycled-aggregate that is gained from construction wastes as the material of compaction pile method. At the same time, the development of the new technique rectifies defects of the existing compaction pile method for soft ground improvement. In this research, laboratory chamber tests were carried out analyzing the effect of the soft ground improvement by porous concrete pile using recycled aggregate. Through the results of the laboratory chamber tests, the variations of settlement, excess pore pressure, and increment of the vertical stress with time and the behavior of the composite ground were elucidated.

CGS(Compaction Grouting System) is widely used in reinforcement of structural foundation and ground improvement in soft ground. But the effects of ground improvement depending on the type of soil must be studied in order to adopt in various soils (granular soil and cohesive soil). In this study, characteristics of ground improvement (the increase of N value, increase in unit weight, vertical displacement on the ground surface) by CGS method was compared through two cases that were performed in granular and cohesive soil. The results show that the closer to the grout hole, the more increase in N value and this trend appear distinctly in granular soil. Unit weight of ground increase largely near by the grout hole and decrease in far from it independently of the soil type. The vertical displacement on the ground surface appeared in smaller area in case of granular soil than cohesive soil.

Individual vacuum pressure method is soft ground improvement technique, in which a vacuum pressure can be directly applied to the vertical drain board to promote consolidation and strengthening the soft ground. This method does not require a surcharge load, different to embankment or pre-loading method. In this study, given the inner displacement of the ground where the individual vacuum pressure is applied, this dissertation aimed to reproduce the state of stress in the ground that is subject to the constraints created by the depth of improvement area. Modified Cam Clay theory which made it possible to take into account the isotropic displacement of the ground was applied to the NAP-IVP used simulation; the conception of equivalent permeability proposed by Hird was also applied so that the 3-dimensional real construction effect of drain materials could be reflected in the analysis.
