The direction of Urban regeneration is changing toward holistic regeneration with residents' participation all over the world. While world leading projects in holistic regeneration such as "Ballymun of Ireland" and "Buffalo of U.S.A" appeared, recently in Korea, "Rainbow project" is getting paid attention as a similar example due to its Socio-Physical approach. The purpose of this study is to find the Effect of Socio-Physical Regeneration on Social Network characteristics of Elderly Residents in a public rental apartment. The subjects of the study are elderly residents who have resided since much before the environmental intervention. The research methods is in-depth interview. Specific features of social network included awareness of the physically improved surrounding environment, awareness of and participation in welfare programs, social interactions, identity, and vandalism behavior. As results, most of elderly residents recognized environmental improvement and felt very positive enough to enhance their attachment and pride in their residences. Physical environment changes had a considerable impact on the social network characteristics and also had a strong influence on their relations with community. Considering that permanent public rental housing has been a socially isolated place, it is significant to notice that residents' perception of being excluded and behaviors are changed gradually being influenced by environmental improvement.

Objectives: This study aimed to collect information that will help enhance the social networks and improve the quality of life among elderly people by observing the relationship between their social network and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and by analyzing social network factors affecting HRQoL. Methods: This study was based on the 2008 Community Health Survey in Yeoncheon County. Three hundred elders were included in the study population. We compared the revised Lubben Social Network Scale (LSNS-R) score and Euro quality of life-5 dimensions health status index by demographic characteristics and chronic disease prevalence. We analyzed the data using multiple regression and tobit regression by setting the HRQoL as the dependent variable and social network and other characteristics as the independent variables. We analyzed social network factors by using factor analysis. Results: The LSNS-R score differed significantly according to age and existence of a spouse. According to the results from the hierarchical multiple regression analysis, the LSNS-R explained 0.10 of the variance and LSNS-R friends factor explained 0.10 of the variance. The tobit regression indicated that the contribution of the LSNS-R family size factor to the regression coefficient of the independent variable that affected the HRQoL was $B_T$=2.96, that of the LSNS-R family frequency factor was $B_T$=3.60, and that of LSNS-R friends factor was $B_T$=5.41. Conclusions: Social networks among elderly people had a significant effect on HRQoL and their networks of friends had a relatively higher effect than those of family members.

This study intends to explore structural characteristics of social networks for female immigrants married to Korean men, and to analyze the relationship between the characteristics and types of social supports provided by their social networks and the differences between support-giving and support-receiving networks. Ego-centered network analysis is used for collecting network data on fifty-three migrant wives selected by a snowball sampling method. Results show that social support receiving and giving networks of female immigrants have similarities rather than differences, which implied that they play roles not only as support receivers, but also as support givers in their social networks. Also the study suggests that there are correlations between networks' characteristics, such as density and effective size of ego network, and types of supports. The result indicates that the less cohesive and less redundant ties female immigrants had, the more diverse and more informational and emotional supports they obtained from their social networks. Due to the sampling method and size, this study has a limitation to generalize the results for the whole population of female immigrants in Korea. However, it provides a basic understanding of female immigrants' social networks.
