Architectual environment in this study means a language and meaning complex which makes communication between human beings and environment possible. The purpose of this study is to propose a semiotic approach to analyze and examine meaning, as a semiotic system, and its effects, focusing on the generative meaning in the relationship between human beings and environment. For this purpose, it examines the academic status of modern semiotics in postmodernism and the possibility of its being metalanguatge for a study of a variety of cultural phenomena and desigv. It also provides two viewpoints as propositions for its analysis: it explains the necessity of environmental-discoursive attitude and social-semiotic viewpoint which understands environment as social-cultural reflectors. Finally, it provides framework and all the interpretative procedures for analysis of environmental meanings on the basis of the approach of semiotics of space. By applying the methods proposed this study to the case studies, it also proves validity of this approach and the potentialities of the application of semiotics. This study emphasizes not only denotative configuration of the architectural environment but also its connotative meanings. It maintains that designers, architects, and theorists should realize correctly today's changed value system and social and aesthetic paradigms. It also stresses the necessity of development of the new architectural language and meaning system.

The aim of the study was to explore the mediating effect of meaning in life on the relationship between meaning making about process of achieving long term goals and happiness. 180 college students completed the open questionnaire about personal long life goal, also rated the scales of meaning making, meaning in life and subjective well-being. The correlation analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, and sobel test were examined. The results as followed. First, meaning making, meaning in life and happiness were positive correlated. Second, the relationship between meaning making about process achieving long term goals and happiness was completely mediated by meaning in life. The finding suggested that meaning making and meaning in life can help to enhance happiness in college students. Also the results supported that meaning in life was important factor that affects subjective well-being in Koran college students. Finally, the limitations were suggested for future research.

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the factors associated with meaning in life among elderly female community dwellers aged 65 or older who were living alone. Methods: A quota sample of 222 elderly female living alone was recruited. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Welch's test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression using the SPSS 22.0 program. Results: The factors associated with meaning in life included age, education level, perceived economic status, perceived health status, social support, and loneliness. This regression model explained 66% of the variance in meaning in life. Conclusion: Based on the results, comprehensive nursing intervention programs for enhancing meaning in life are required.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of housework for home education. The methodology applied in this study bases on reinterpretation of references concerned with 'housework' and 'education'. The meaning of housework for home education can be analyzed in three aspects, that is, individual, domestic, and social aspect. Houseworkers be capable of developing their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social ability through houseworks. What is more, they are to internalize the culture of home and society. The meaning of housework for home education, however, has gradually been forgotten in people's mind with the appearance of rationalism of modern society. The particular process of modernization in our country has uncovered the negative aspect of housework and continually emphased that point. Thus now people consider housework as only something troublesome. The conclusion of this study is that, for the purpose of our 'noble life as man', we should recover and emphasize the importance of the meaning of housework for home education. Mid-life is a period of transition and crisis in human development. A multidimensional approach is needed to understand the meaning of the mid-life crisis. In order to understand the crisis of middle age, it is required to understand the psychological aspects of individuals, behavioral and social aspects. Jung referred to the middle age as the period of individuation. In other words, it is a process of stabilizing and integrating several individuals with fragmented personalities. The discovery of the meaning in life in middle age relates to the meaning of existence and to become a true community member through understanding of others and oneself. The sense of crisis in middle age has a deep correlation with the meaning in life, and the sense of crisis in middle age can be lowered through the meaning of life. However, in the process of discovering the meaning in life, adaptation to family and social crises and coping with stress will be important factors.

This study was designed to examine the meaning of housing in modern Korea, and to draw the interrelationship of people and housing. In-depth interviews were conducted, and the qualitative research investigated various aspects of housing history among four individuals during the different phases of social and economic transitions. Each narratives showed the unique characteristics of life history, and the conceptual frameworks for interpretation were microsociological approach by Morris and Winter(1978) and pathway approach by Clapham(2005). One narrater named "K" had gone through various housing experiences since her birth in 1933 at a traditional Korean housing, and she moved to a traditional rural community. Another narrater called "S" was born in housing built during the Japanese colonization, gained wealth through the housing boom of the industrialization, and has lived in a suburban condominium. "G" spent her entire life in an urban area, had never owned a house, and lived in a house with poor quality. The other narrater named "L" had lived in a single-family home with a large yard since her childhood, and she has resided in multi-family housing by herself after having a lot of experiences of building houses. The results revealed that housing could play as a simple role as a shelter, be transformed over family life cycle, become prestige of extended family, social and family status, investment. Meaning of housing from the pathway approach were closely related to hometown, the relation to birth family at postmarriage, economic status, and housing experiences according to the social change. As a conclusion, the meaning of housing is vary, and housing conveys numerous implications including psychological, social and economic aspects.

This paper aims to analyze the meaning and conceptual tension contained in the definition of social services prescribed by recently amended Framework Act on Social Security(FASS) by examining various terminologies of social services in Korea. In Korea the term of social services has had at least four meanings since it has begun to be used during Participatory Government. Of these, the meaning of social services in FASS is closest to 'social serives as social-jobs'. While, as has this meaning, social services in FASS is defined as very comprehensive one, it also has its conceptual tension. On the one hand, FASS comes to have the orientation to include immensely wide fields such as welfare, health, employment, housing, culture and environment within social service. However on the other hand FASS still has the orientation to limit social services to traditional social welfare services. Unless re-amending the recently amended FASS, the conceptual tension resulted from these two conflicting orientations will be likely to continue. And this might raise the need both to reform the organization of Ministry of Health and Welfare and exiting delivery systems of social services and to develop theoretical and practical principles providing basis for tailored social services, which in turn poses important challenges to social welfare discipline. To meet these challenges it is necessary to cooperate between micro and macro approaches.

The creation of new economic paradigm shift in creative economy age have influence on the characteristics of social networks and space, it leads to the formation of new relationship in space depending on social network service development. In this paper, it gives a name to 'social network resource' the power affecting these features and to find the meaning of spatial changes in the economic geography perspectives. 'Social network resource' shows the characteristics of openness, sharing, participation and cooperation, with features of encompassing all the features of local and global characteristics in space. This features are related the meaning of 'trans-locality' and can be found in the case of 'WikiSeoul.com (http:/www.wikiseoul.com)', Seoul's social knowledge sharing web platform. In particular, physical resources, human resources, information resources, and the characteristics of the relationship as a resource features was found and these features appear in space is projected to the space of social relations, it reflects the characteristics of qualitative space regarding social network resource.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the mental, social and aesthetic facets contained in ancient shining costumes and to find out the internal meaning of ancient shining costumes that they wished to express. This study was based on the theoretical data regarding the materials, types, and characteristics of the shining costumes. Egypt, Rome, Greece and several Mesopotamian countries have been included as a scope of research. The literature examination skill was applied for the research. The internal meaning of ancient shining costumes could be understood as an instrument of expression regarding religion, social status and beauty.

The purpose of this study is to examine the legal attribute of subsidiarity principle on the National Basic Livelihood Security Act. The principle of subsidiarity is applied to the regulation for 'fundamental principle of benefits' on the National Basic Livelihood Security Act, therefore it functions as legal theory. However, due to its both positive and negative characteristics it becomes to be interpreted and applied in a different meaning depending on the normative characteristics of related laws. In brief, as the passive meaning of subsidiarity principle guarantees the freedom of civilian by limiting national power, it is reasonable in social control norm like criminal law. However, as nation's active role of intervention and support is required in order to protect basic standard of human life according to the principle of Social(welfare)State, the active meaning of subsidiarity principle is reasonable in Social Security law, especially in public assistance. Hence, the principle of subsidiarity on the National Basic Livelihood Security Act becomes to realize, justice, goal fitness and legal stability when it is operated by system with interpreting in an active meaning.
