The Life-Course perspective is a theoretical orientation that views the life-course as the age structure embedded in social institutions and history and understands the life-course of individual and group in the contextual perspective. The life-course perspective studies were developed in Germany and North America. They study social and historical effects and the effect of institutions and the state on the life-course, the pathway of the work career and differences of labour outcomes, and the inequality that is developed in the life-course. In Korea, the life-course perspective studies were tried in various fields and cumulated. However, it didn't established as a theoretical orientation. For applying the life-course perspective to connect the individual life-course with social and historical event, I describe the historical location of individuals born between 1930 and 1979 and analyse the change of their transitions to adulthood exploratorily. On results, the extension of education made the structural change of their life-course, and in young cohort the timing of leaving school, entering workforce, marriage and childbirth was delayed and transitions were made in narrower spread. It means the standardization of the life-course as appears in modern society. The 1970s birth cohort has the differenciated life-course pattern, however I cannot verify that change because of the right censoring.
This study has aimed to observe the starting point of Korean social welfare studies with the perspective of historicism. Basically, this study has focused on the following research question; by what kind of influences and contents had been built Korean social welfare studies in the early days? The collected data from introductory texts which had been written by the first generation of Korean social welfare studies was analyzed according to the framework as follows; 1) historical summary of the texts, 2) individual historical disposition of the writers, 3) historical application of the principle terms, and 4) historical context of the contents for social welfare studies. As results, some issues related with the formation of Korean social welfare studies are stressed as follows; 1) data collecting from the first generation of the researchers and writers for recovering the introductory texts, 2) study of the influences of christianity, 3) study on the influences of aid agencies from oversees, 4) study on the influence of the mixed with American and Japanese social welfare studies, and 5) study on the examination of developing process of Korean social welfare studies afterward. Finally, the limit of this study that the individual history of writers could not cope detailed and deeply is mentioned.
This study's aim is to identify modern and post-modern values and transnationalism embodied in Daesoon Thought and to seek for the new value to overcome irrationality of modern values in this society we live in. Several previous studies discussed about these issues, but most of them studied them on the basis of Korean new religions or Jeungsangyo, or in sociological theory perspective. Therefore, this study focused on Daesoon Thought encompassing ideological perspective as well as historical perspective of Daesoonjinrihoe. As for nationalism, while Eastern learning(Dong-Hak) is prone to ethnocentricity, Daesoon Thought shows trans-ethnic perspective. As for historical perspectivel, Mugeuikdo, a precursor to Daesoonjinrihoe showed non-relationship with any politics as contrasted with other new korean religious movement at that time. As for aspects of modern values, 3 perspectives (political system, social system, abolition of premodern values) were discussed. As for political system perspective, while Eastern learning advocates democratic modernity but accepted monarchy, Jeungsan denied monarchy. And While western political philosophy advocated rationality-based absolute person, Daesoon Thought proposes ideal human who can have political power and do religious indoctrination all together. As for social system perspective, while western humanism is based on all of he people's equity in front of God, Eastern learning on humans are Heaven (人乃天), Daesoon Thought is based on Injon thought(人尊思想) which encompasses spiritual world, human world and all of the universe. Daesoon Thought also proposes abolition of discrimination by gender, social position. As for abolition of premodern values, Daesoon Thought critics pre-modern formalism and advocate acceptance of other nations' culture, pragmatism, and humanism. As presented above, Daesoon Thought has not only modern values but also aspects of post-modernity and transnationalism. In the future, further studies are needed which tackle these issues and search for new values of Daesoon Thought which can overcome limitation of modern values.
The Dutch colonial government introduced social forestry at the end of the 19th century with a commitment to controlling forest resources in the Dutch East Indies. This program was a response to the rampant deforestation which had resulted in forest degradation and poverty of the population around the forest. This study examined the practice of social forestry in the late colonial period which had not been done much. From a historical perspective, social forestry practices in Indonesia before independence could be explained more comprehensively. This study uses a historical method which includes four stages: heuristic, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography (composing historical stories). Sources of information were explored through studies of archival documents and contemporary artefacts, especially official colonial government reports and contemporary newspapers/magazines. Data from various sources are then compared and tested for validity to obtain data validity. The next stage is to build facts based on data obtained and then interpreted using the social science theories. Finally, compiling a historical (historiographical) story about social forestry during the late colonial period. The results showed that colonial forestry during the colonial period was still limited in terms of area and method, namely in the area of teak forest and involving villagers through the intercropping system. Farmers involved in these activities are called pesanggem who earn income from forest land being rejuvenated. However, the relationship between pesanggem and the forestry service has not been well institutionalized, consequently the pesanggem is often disadvantaged. Including certainty of ownership and ownership of forest land never gained clarity and even became a source of conflict.
This study has been planned to examine the three faces as follows; 1) systematization of research materials on the farmer's welfare served in the period of Japanese Imperialism, and 2) a social historical analyzation of the farmer's welfare in the context of politics, economy, social lives, and culture. The collected data focused on the primary resources has been organized such as seven categories: 1) public aid; 2) social insurance; 3) social welfare service; 4) farmer's welfare movement; 5) farm's social work; 6) mutual dependence; and 7) the others. The organized data has been analyzed in view of social history such as important themes: 1) being targeted in the confused society; 2) conspirative almsgiving; 3) being benefited from monopolistic capitalism and discrimination; 4) alienators' resistant self-help efforts; 5) reforming of civilized lives; 6) religious blessings within structural double torture; and 7) farmer's partial progress of lives. Finally, some various implications are suggested based on the analyzed results.
In this paper, the nature-based tourism is described as one of the tools to achieve sustainable development in small islands. The study was carried out at Ayer, Bidadari and Onrust Islands of Kepulauan Seribu chains at Jakarta Bay, Indonesia. While the historical records show that previous uses of such islands have started at sixteen century, tourism uses was started at the beginning of 1970s. Among nature-based tourism destination in Kepulauan Seribu chains, these islands are the famous destinations and received a lot of tourists. Tourism growth at these islands has stimulated development of numerous tourism facilities and infrastructure to meet visitor satisfaction. It is observed in this study that island's site-plan destination design has contributed to the successful and sustainability of tourism in small island. The key success lies on the successful integration and implementation of three substantial perspectives into practices, namely economic, ecosystem and social perspectives. First, in order to enhance economic benefits, a site-plan design allowing floating cottages establishment to extent room availability, to build strong images as tropical paradise islands, and to enhance tourist satisfaction with the objectives of improving income and sustaining tourist loyalty to the destination. This design is also reducing land risk from tourism impact and it becomes the significant key of second perspective, the ecosystem perspective. Moreover, the ecosystem perspective has been implemented through native vegetation preservation that led island's wildlife conservation and became potential tourism attraction. The design also develops effective mechanism to manage and regulate visitor flows by establishing visitor track corridors. In implementation, such corridor plays an important role to reduce tourist density in single places and therefore become instrument to reduce severe visitor impact to wildlife, vegetation and heritages of islands. Third, the social aspect of development allowing heritages to conserve and furthermore serve numerous benefits for education, socio-political, culture, and historical studies. Through this study, it is clear that the success of these islands to continuous tourism growth lies on the island's vision to integrate economic, ecosystem and social perspectives on tourism development.
Objectives :The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the significance of the 『Joseonbogeonsa』 by examining North Korea's perspective in its documentation of the history of medicine, and to further understand North Korea's perception of Korean Traditional Medicine. Methods : The focus of examination was on the perspective of historical description as shown in the first chapter of the 『Joseonbogeonsa』. Its unique features were made clear through comparison with historical texts of medicine of South Korea such as the 『History of Medicine in Korea』, and the 『History of Korean Medicine』. In order to grasp the current of historical research in North Korea, various Traditional Medicine related dictionaries and academic journals of North Korea along with the 『Joseontongsa』 were examined. Results & Conclusions : The historical views of the 『Joseonbogeonsa』 could be categorized as nation-focused, materialistic, and nationalistic. These are core elements that make up North Korea's self-reliance ideology, which influenced the interpretation of medical facts. While the text is valuable in that it introduced new historical material along with its interpretation, and argued for a more independent development of Traditional Medicine, its limitation of interpreting historical material from a conclusive, pre-determined standpoint cannot be overlooked. The North Korean 'Goryeo Medicine' is defined by its historical nature rather than academic characteristics, and its significance is determined by its clinical efficacy rather than theoretical value.

Science field trip on historical heritages in Korea has developed since 1998. There are a few discussion of effectiveness of science field trip on historical heritages. In this research, the aim of science field trip on historical heritages was discussed in view of developing scientific perspectives on historical heritages with cases of science field trip of Hwasong fortress. Material for science field trip of Hwasong fortress was developed and instructional strategy was designed. The material contained convergent and divergent scientific inquiry activities. The goal of the activity was to help students to build scientific perspectives on the historical heritage, so they can evaluate the scientific excellency of historical heritage. The subjects were ten ninth grade students of middle school science club in Seoul. A questionnaire, "evaluation of scientific excellency of historical heritage" was administered before and after the field trip. From the analysis of a change in perspective by field trip, it was investigated how the scientific perspective on historical heritages was developed. The first draft of material for science field trip of Hwasong fortress was developed based on science education experts' discussion. The material has three parts; activities before the trip, activities during the trip and activities after trip. Instructor's guide has the same structure. Before the field trip, students watched the videotape and learned the short history lesson about Hwasong fortress to develop familiarity. During the trip, there were exploring stage and intensive inquiring stage. These activities were designed to develop scientific perspective on historical heritage. After the field trip, evaluation activity about scientific value of Hwasong was done based on the activities done during the trip. After the science field trip of Hwasong fortress, most of students showed positive changes. Some of them reflected on their previous thoughts. Some recognized the necessity of the proper criteria for scientific excellency of historical heritage. All changed in their perspective on evaluating scientific aspects on historical heritage, such as considering the social environment, scientific principles and the influence of science and technology of that age on the society, when the fortress was built. These results show that the science field trip focused on the criteria for evaluating the scientific excellency of historical heritage was significant in helping students to develop the scientific perspective on historical heritage.
This study aims to figure out the development of Korean child welfare between 1950s and 1970s in the light of Children's Light as the oldest professional journal of social welfare in Korea. This journal had been published by CCF Superintendent Korea Conference from 1957. Particularly, this study has been conducted through the social historical perspective, and the collected data was analysed by three periods, institution-centered care era(1957-1961), home-centered care era(1962-1969), and expanded services era(1970-1979). Finally, the resultant themes are as follows: firstly, orphans' forster under social prejudice, social work inclined to Christianity, and institution-centered social casework based on faith; secondly, development of systematization on the whole social welfare, rising of social work professionalism, tasks for orphans and workers in orphanages, and expectations on the integration of practice; and thirdly, strengthening of children's education and health in the institution, questioning on deinstitutionalization, preparation against withdrawal of foreign aid agencies, and the government's passive correspondence. Unfortunately, this study limits to reveal the children's services by non-Christian agencies because of the data based on the services by Christian agencies.

This paper studied on the geographical distribution location arrangement and the social construction of Pungsu discourse and the Pungsu(Fengshui) management of royal tombs on the Joseon Dynasty from the historical, cultural geographical perspective. The Pungsu landscape of royal tombs during the Joseon dynasty was the direct result of the political dynamics among the king, his family, other royal families, and various groups of vassals. Pungsu was a important factor in deciding tomb sites or landscapes, but it was a secondary factor to politics in the Joseon Dynasty. The primary factor was politics, clearly showing Pungsu's status in social discourse. The royal tomb Pungsu is defined as the Pungsu discourse of the Joseon Dynasty period which is combined with Confucian ideology in Korean Pungsu history.
