  • In this paper, we introduce a new interworking control method of street lights using Zigbee modules. When a street light detects a moving object, the street light informs other street lights that it detected a moving object. A street light turns on for a predetermined time when it detects a moving object or it has received an information of detecting a moving object from other street lights.

  • LEDs are becoming the most suitable candidate replacing traditional fluorescent street-light lamps because of its energy efficiency and high brightness. Furthermore, most countries are urging to pursue energy savings in conjunction with IT and sensor network. In order to conserve energy of LED lamp and ensure the safety of pedestrian, we propose a new smart control method for LED light system based on USN using compound sensors, such as illuminance, motion, temperature and humidity sensor. An elaborate simulation shows that the proposed system with a smart control based switching can reduce the energy by 40%, compared to the previous street-light system with a fixed time based switching.

  • In this paper, we propose a system for controlling the brightness of street lights by predicting pedestrian paths, identifying the position of pedestrians with motion sensing sensors and obtaining motion vectors based on past walking directions, then predicting pedestrian paths through the route prediction smart street lighting system. In addition, by using motion vector data, the pre-treatment process using linear interpolation method and the fuzzy system and neural network system were designed in parallel structure to increase efficiency and the rough set was used to correct errors. It is expected that the system proposed in this paper will be effective in securing the safety of pedestrians and reducing light pollution and energy by predicting the path of pedestrians in the detection of movement of pedestrians and in conjunction with smart street lightings.

  • Smart street light controller is a product with advance micro controller base for energy saving in conventional street lighting systems. Intelligent Street light controller are specially developed for automation and energy saving in conventional street light systems and lighting systems. It is so designed that it operates on sunrise & sun set timings according to longitude of particular location with facilitate to set month wise civil twilight timings to cope up with all seasons. Dimming (Power down) mode selection switch on/off at fixed times with relay or contactor. Night dimming, staggering and intelligent control reduces burn hours and increases the lifetime of lamps with about 30% and low annual operating cost type base are among the most inexpensive wireless technologies available. Low initial costs As PLC wireless, there is no need to establish cable connection.

  • As inexhaustible clean energy, solar energy will be the most ideal green energy in the 21st century. The effective method to convert solar energy into electrical energy is by solar photovoltaic power generation technologies. LED Emitting Diode is a kind of component which can transform electricity into visible light. As the smart current control system for photovoltaic street lights, the proposed system has improved the battery charging and discharging mechanism to extend the lifespan and effectively controls the LED discharge current according to battery charge state and lighting.

  • This study aims to develop a smart uniform with embedded luminescence for street cleaners to enhance visibility, safety, and long-term usability, informed by real users' opinions. It employed mixed-methods research comprising three phases: first, a pre-interview to identify existing problems; second, experiments to evaluate the visibility and durability of the technology embedded in smart uniforms during machine washing; and third, a post-survey and observation to assess user satisfaction regarding safety, long-term usability, and aesthetic aspects. Prototypes were developed to evaluate long-term usability and safety based on users' opinions. The findings indicated users desired long-term usage without the need for additional wear and highlighted concerns about the glare from light-emitting devices. The developed prototypes demonstrated long-term usability, remaining functional after more than 25 machine washes without reducing brightness or structural integrity. Regarding participant satisfaction, 83.5% of users were satisfied with the design, both aesthetically and functionally. This study offers a viable approach to developing user-centered designs incorporating light-emitting devices, which enhance visibility and provide aesthetic satisfaction while ensuring long-term usability. The results hold significant implications for future design research focused on vulnerable populations, emphasizing integrated satisfaction in terms of safety and long-term usability.

  • Recently, there has been active research on smart street lamps that can collect real-time traffic data and provide traffic information by attaching images and radars to road lighting facilities. Smart street light technology can detect, identify, and provide dense information compared to existing technologies. In order to effectively utilize the smart streetlight as a high-resolution information delivery medium, a branch-type operation strategy that is different from the existing centralized operation strategy is required. This study presents dynamic information delivery strategies, release strategies, and their criteria for various purposes in a spatial range, separated by the context before and after the occurrence of smart street lights-based accidents. Through this, it is expected that smart road lighting facilities can be used more effectively.

  • Smart lighting systems have become increasingly popular in several public sectors because of trends toward urbanization and intelligent technologies. In this study, we designed and implemented a web application platform to explore and monitor data acquired from lighting devices at Thammasat University (Rangsit Campus, Thailand). The platform provides a convenient interface for administrative and operative staff to monitor, control, and collect data from sensors installed on campus in real time for creating geographically specific big data. Platform development focuses on both back- and front-end applications to allow a seamless process for recording and displaying data from interconnected devices. Responsible persons can interact with devices and acquire data effortlessly, minimizing workforce and human error. The collected data were analyzed using an exploratory data analysis process. Missing data behavior caused by system outages was also investigated.

  • This study is to demonstrate the superiority and stability of the solar - wind power hybrid power generation system for street lamps using super capacitor EDLC(:Electric Double Layer Capacitor). It is aiming to apply the lighting device using LED light source as the load of solar-wind power hybrid power generation system for independent power source and to develop the street light system device with high output power generation system. Unlike conventional controllers, EDLC, which is used as an auxiliary device for storing the developed power in the battery, can guarantee the high output and long life of the battery.

  • To suggest lighting regulations to prevent light pollution, domestic and international standards were analyzed and the luminance of outdoor signboards of main street at night was measured. In addition, to regulate the methods of luminance measurement, experiments on the measuring distance and direction from the signboards were conducted. The regulations were set as maximum luminance for outdoor signboard lightings of channel letter type, and limitations were suggested on each of the four lighting zones.
