  • The development of smart technology has brought the conversion of closed traditional e-learning contents into open flexible smart learning contents consisting of learner-centered modules, without the constraints of time and space by use of smart devices from the uniformed and passive classroom between teachers and learners. It has been demanded an open, personalized and customized teaching and learning contents of smart education and training systems according to wide supply of various smart devices. In this paper, we discuss about the status of the smart teaching and learning systems and analyze the characteristics and structure of the web contents for smart education and training systems by use of smart devices. And we propose a method how to block web contents, to extract them, and adapt personalized segments of web contents by adaptive algorithm into smart learning devices. We extract blocks from the web contents based on the smart device information and the preference information of the learners from existing web contents without the hassle of learners environment. After specifying a block priority from the extracted web contents by the adaptive segment algorithm, it can be displayed directly to the screen to fit the individual learning progress of the learners.

  • According to recent needs for 'smart learning', the concept of smart learning was reviewed by device, environmental, and theoretical approaches. The principle of smart learning includes three elements: First, rich instructional resources as learning contents. Second, participatory learning environments with interactions among teachers and learners as learning methods. Third, practical and realistic contexts as learning environments. Based on those characteristics, instructional designs for smart learning can be summed up as learning objectives, learning resources, instructional environments, instruction process design, instruction method development, implementation, and evaluation. As a conclusion, it is required to systematically develop instructional designs addressing specific learning settings to facilitate smart learning.

  • This study examined how parent-child attachment, parental involvement in child rearing and instruction for children's effective use of a smart device reflect on young children's smart device overuse behavior. We collected questionnaires from 196 parents with children attending early childhood education institutions for the survey. Frequency analysis as well as Person correlation coefficient and regression analysis were conducted using IBM SPSS 21.0 statistics. The results showed that 91% of targeted young children were using a smart device and 78% first used them before age 5. As for time of use hours, 43.9% used their smart device from 30 minutes to 1 hour on average. In addition, parent-child attachment and father's involvement in child rearing were found to be inversely correlated to young children's smart device overuse. The result of hierarchical regression analysis on parent factors influencing young children's smart device overuse behavior indicated that mothers' contact-seeking behavior to young children, mother's involvement in learning and instruction for children's effective use of a smart device at home had beneficial effects. This study analyzed parent factors that influenced young children's smart device overindulgence. In addition, the baseline data of this study will be utilized to develop programs for the prevention and therapy to solve the smart device overindulgence as well as to establish young children's guidelines for using a smart device.

  • Students studying interpretation perform additional study and training in addition to regular class. In simultaneous interpreting and consecutive interpreting, interpreter should memorize speaker's announcement because of different language structure. To improve short-term memory, students perform memory training that requires a pair of students. Therefore, they can not perform self-learning, and therefore, efficiency of studying decreases. To resolve this problem, computer based short-term memory training system has been proposed. Student can perform self-learning by changing words in text to special character in the training system. However, efficiency of studying decreases because computer has low portability. Since the number of words is larger than the number of words to be switched into special character, learning difficulty decreases. To resolve this problem, smart device based short-term memory training system has been proposed. Student can perform smart device based training system without space constraints. Since the proposed training system increases the number of words to be changed into special character, learning difficulty increases. We implemented and evaluated the functionalities of the proposed training system.

  • As the number of exchange in various fields between countries increases, the number of international conference increases. Many students study simultaneous interpretation due to the increased demand of simultaneous interpretation. Since simultaneous interpretation requires a lot of learning time, students majoring in translation perform the self learning. The paper based sight translation training system is a representative self learning method, but backtracking decreases the efficiency of self learning and it requires the help of the partner. To improve the learning efficiency, computer based sight translation training system has been proposed. However, since students uses the computer based sight translation training system only in a fixed area due to low mobility of computer, the utilization of the system decreases. In this paper, smart device based sight translation training system has been proposed to increase the utilization of the proposed system. Since smart device has lower computing capabilities than the computer, we have proposed algorithms to deal with the low performance. We implement and evaluate the functionalities of the proposed training system.
