  • Recently, there is a rising interest in smart grid operating system which manages various types of distributed generation, smart meters, and electric vehicles with power grid. Considering the features of smart grid environment, the interoperability should be one of the important factors to build smart grid environment successfully. To secure interoperability, smart grid operating system should conform to some standards in terms of the data representation and communication. CIM and OPC-UA are the international standards widely used in smart grid domain for enabling interoperability. They provide common information model and the unified architecture for communicating between each systems or applications. In this paper, we illustrate a smart grid operating system that we have developed to secure interoperability between not only applications but also numerous legacy systems(applications) by implementing CIM based information model and OPC-UA based communication interface services.

  • Recently, many actions are taking to accelerate progress toward social consensus and implementation of Smart Grid. Smart Grid refers to a evolution of the electricity supply infrastructure that monitors, protects, and intelligently optimize the operation of the interconnected elements including various type of generators, power grid, building/home automation system and end-use consumers. The most distinguished element will be Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) that will be installed to every end-use consumer's home or building and optimize the energy consumption of the end-use consumer. The key function of AMI is energy management capability that coordinates and optimally controls the various loads according to the operating condition and environments. In this study, we figure out the basic function of AMI in Smart Energy House that can be defined as a model house implementing in Smart Grid. This paper proposes the energy management algorithm that will be implemented in AMI at Smart Energy House. The paper also show how energy saving in Smart Energy House can be achieved applying the proposed algorithm to an actual house model that has mainly lighting, air-conditioning, TV loads.

  • Currently, the major issue in power system is construction of smart grid. Unlike conventional electricity grids, smart grid allows two-way communication between electricity suppliers and consumers, as well as enabling more dispersed generation and storage of power. The AMI(advanced metering infrastructure) system is the core technology of smart grid and this paper deals with the design methodology of AMI System using PLC(power line communication) networks.

  • AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) is a core infrastructure of Smart Grid, and is promoting in various country. Wireless network is considered for cost savings and operational efficiencies in AMI. But various security problems are expected in wireless networks of AMI, so we should solve these problems. In this paper, we suggest a wireless network of AMI by using Binary CDMA and security countermeasures of AMI wireless network. Proposed security architecture is using BSIM (Binary Subscriber Identity Module) to perform user authentication and key agreement for the encryption and decryption over radio network to reduce security threats.

  • With the increasing popularity of Smart Grid infrastructure, it is much easier to collect energy usage data using AMI (Advanced Measuring Instrument) from residential housing, buildings and factories. Several researches have been done to improve an energy efficiency by analyzing the collected energy usage data. However, it is not easy to store and analyze the energy data using a traditional relational database management system since the data size grows exponentially with an increasing popularity of Smart grid infrastructure. In this paper, we are proposing a Hadoop based Big data system to store and analyze energy usage data. Based on our limited experiments, Hadoop based energy data analysis is three times faster than that of a relational database management system based approach with the current system.

  • Smart grid can two-way communication using ICT(Information & Communication Technology). Also, smart grid can supply to dynamic power that grafted to electric vehicle can activate to electric vehicle charging infrastructure and used to storage battery of home. Storage battery of home can resale to power provider. These electric vehicle charging infrastructure locate fixed on home, apartment, building, etc charging infrastructure that used fluid on user. If don't authentication for user of fluid user use to charging infrastructure, electric charging service can occurred to illegal use, electric charges and leakgage of electric information. In this paper, we propose smartcard and dynamic ID based user authentication scheme for used secure to electric vehicle service in smart grid environment.

  • This paper presents problems of network technology in smart grid and implements a blockchain-based LoRa multi-hop network to solve them. Since some smart grid applications are operated in harsh environments, it is difficult to establish communication infrastructure. We propose a LoRa network with multi-hop using the Flooding routing protocol. Smart grid environment composes an independent network using various power grid protocols depending on the application. Since this has a problem that an independent infrastructure must be established for each network, a single gateway device supports multiple power grid protocols to implement a method for network integration. Lastly, the author applied Hyperledger-based blockchain to the LoRa network to ensure the integrity of data in a smart grid environment, and strengthened security by physically distributing it. After constructing the three suggestions on the actual test bed, we confirmed that the network operates normally through experiments.

  • The secure access the lighting, Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), fire safety, and security control boxes of building facilities is the primary objective of future smart buildings. This paper proposes an authorized user access to the electrical, lighting, fire safety, and security control boxes in the smart building, by using color grid coded optical camera communication (OCC) with face recognition Technologies. The existing CCTV subsystem can be used as the face recognition security subsystem for the proposed approach. At the same time a smart device attached camera can used as an OCC receiver of color grid code for user access authentication data sent by the control boxes to proceed authorization. This proposed approach allows increasing an authorization control reliability and highly secured authentication on accessing building facility infrastructure. The result of color grid code sequence received by the unauthorized person and his face identification allows getting good results in security and gaining effectiveness of accessing building facility infrastructure. The proposed concept uses the encoded user access authentication information through control box monitor and the smart device application which detect and decode the color grid coded informations combinations and then send user through the smart building network to building management system for authentication verification in combination with the facial features that gives a high protection level. The proposed concept is implemented on testbed model and experiment results verified for the secured user authentication in real-time.

  • As an energy network infrastructure, which is capable of integrating energy related services such as AMR/AMI, Smart Grid, and Smart Water Grid, the Smart Utility Network (SUN) enables a paradigm shift from user-oriented networks to device-oriented networks. The SUN has some similarities to sensor networks in application and network requirements. Therefore it is required to investigate and analyze thoroughly existing related work in advance to design new network protocols for SUN. In this paper we analyze service requirements and design considerations for SUN and then present a design guideline of new network protocols for SUN by investigating existing low power protocols, data aggregation methods, and in-network storages.
