There are many pros and cons for whether smart glasses and watch would be further going technology or not beyond smart phone. What have to do domestically is to find acting ways to catch up with technological gap in short term basis through analyses and investigations in technological issues, patents profile, market forecast. In this paper, firstly we investigate and review technological issues and form factors of smart glasses and HMD, and secondly analyze technological tendency and identify their core technology and intension from global key player's patents analyses connected with smart glasses, and conclusively suggest technological prospects and it's countermeasures.
In this paper, we present the R&D status of ETRI's Trusted Reality (TR) project and its core technologies. ETRI's TR project focuses on the next-generation paradigm of smart phones, ETRI-TR Smart Glasses, which aims to provide the same features as those of smart phones without the involvement of any handheld device. Furthermore, they are characterized by additional features enabled by trustworthy VR/AR/MR/XR, such as privacy masking/unmasking, distributed structure of thin-client computing/networking among TR-Glasses, TR-LocalEdge, and TR-RemoteEdge, with novel see-through eyes-direct communication between IoT real/virtual objects and human eyes. Based on these core technologies of the ETRI's TR project, the human-held ETRI-TR Smart Glasses is expected to aid in the realization of XR vision with particularly more XR's safe_privacy on social life in the near future.
Instructional contents are used to demonstrate a technical process to teach and walkthrough certain procedures to carry out a task. This type of informational content is widely used for teaching and lectures in form of tutorial videos and training videos. Since there are questions and uncertainties for what could be the killer application for the novel wearables, we propose a self-instruction training application on a smart glass to utilize already-available instruction videos as well as public open data in creative ways. We design and implement a prototype application to help users train by wearing smart glasses specifically designed for two concrete and hand-constrained use cases where the user's hands need to be free to operate. To increase the efficiency and feasibility of the self-instruction training, we contribute to the development of a wearable killer application by integrating a voice-based user interface using speech recognizer, public open data APIs, and timestamp-based procedural content navigation structure into our proof-of-concept application.

This study was to investigate the types of emergencies transported by the Southwestern Coast Guard, the need for telemedicine guidance, and the perception and attitude of smart glasses as a communication method targeting 31 coast guards. A relatively high frequency and training requirement were confirmed for bleeding, abrasion, and abdominal pain. The demand for telemedicine guidance on medication and triage was higher, and the perceived usefulness and attitude scores for the use of smart glasses were 3.76±0.61 and 3.64±0.45, respectively. A moderate correlation between perceived usefulness and attitude toward smart glasses was confirmed (r=.630, p<.01). With the development of technology, it is time to actively introduce new devices such as smart glasses.

The importance of protecting personal information is getting attention more than ever. However, the package delivery system has yet to keep up with the privacy movement. The waybill attached to the package contains personal information about the recipient in text form, which is exposed to anyone with visible eyesight. In order to remedy the problem, this paper proposes that the contents of the waybill should be replaced by QR code instead of plain text which can be read and accessed through the human eye. In addition, in order to prevent indiscriminate access to the contents of the QR code, the access is only permitted using smart glasses registered in the delivery blockchain network system. Lastly, to prevent leaking the contents of the QR code from the person who has access to the registered smart glasses, an inside job, the access record is recorded on the blockchain.
In medically vulnerable areas in Korea, public health doctors play a significant role in providing not only general medical care but also emergency medical services to the local residents. However, it has been observed that public health doctors generally lack field experience, resulting in insufficient ability to handle emergency patients and to effectively use medical equipment. This study confirmed the effectiveness of education after conducting remote education using smart glasses on how to use medical equipment necessary for public health doctors. Specifically, real wear was used for smart glasses for medical equipment utilization education, and 10 public health officials in 10 islands in Shinan-gun were targeted. After the training, both the effect of using the equipment and the level of satisfaction were 3 or higher. Therefore, it was confirmed that remote education using smart glasses can be usefully used for public health doctors in medically vulnerable areas.

Currently, flat cover glasses are widely applied to mobile devices. However, for a good design and for convenience of use, curved cover glasses are in demand. Thus, many companies are attempting to produce curved cover glasses using a shaving technique, but the production efficiency is very low. Therefore, a molding technique has been adopted to increase the efficiency of curved glass production systems. For a glass molding system, a uniform temperature distribution of the mold is crucial to produce high-quality curved cover glasses. Before setting the heating conditions of the molding system for a uniform temperature distribution by a thermal analysis, verification is required. Therefore, in this study, temperature measurements were conducted for a prototype molding system and the experimental results were compared with simulation computations. The temperatures of the heating block surface were in good agreement with the computational results for transient and steady conditions.

Vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) is an attractive material for smart window applications where the transmittance of light can be automatically modulated from a transparent state to an opaque state at the critical temperature of ${\sim}68^{\circ}C$. Meanwhile, F : $SnO_2$ (F-doped $SnO_2$, FTO) glass is a transparent conductive oxide material that is widely used in solar-energy-related applications because of its excellent optical and electrical properties. Relatively high transmittance and low emissivity have been obtained for FTO-coated glasses. Tunable transmittance corresponding to ambient temperature and low emissivity can be expected from $VO_2$ films deposited onto FTO glasses. In this study, FTO glasses were applied for the deposition of $VO_2$ thin films by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering. $VO_2$ thin films were also deposited on a Pyrex substrate for comparison. To decrease the phase transition temperature of $VO_2$, tungsten-doped $VO_2$ films were also deposited onto FTO glasses. The visible transmittance of $VO_2$/FTO was higher than that of $VO_2$/pyrex due to the increased crystallinity of the $VO_2$ thin film deposited on FTO and decreased interface reflection. Although the solar transmittance modulation of $VO_2$/FTO was lower than that of $VO_2$/pyrex, room temperature solar transmittance of $VO_2$/FTO was lower than that of $VO_2$/pyrex, which is advantageous for reflecting solar heat energy in summer.

The image projected onto the screen of the floating hologram is no more than a two-dimensional image. Although it creates an illusion that an object appears to float in space as it moves around while showing its different parts. This paper has proposed a novel method of floating 3D hologram display to view stereoscopic three-dimensional images without putting on glasses. The system is comprised of a sharkstooth scrim screen, projector, polarizing filter for the projector, and a polarizing film to block the image projected from the sham screen. As part of the polarization characteristics, the background image and the front object have completely been separated from each other with the stereoscopic 3D effect successfully implemented by the binocular disparity caused by the distance between the two screens.

In this paper, a compact MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) antenna for smart glasses is proposed. The proposed MIMO antenna is designed using T-shaped isolator inserted between two closely located Inverted-F Antenna(IFA) and using two slots located in the ground for isolation enhancement and impedance matching characteristic. The proposed antenna has only the overall dimensions of $35mm{\times}9mm{\times}0.8mm$ and operates in the 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical(ISM) band. To verify human body effect, the phantom is used for antenna performance. The measured specific absorption rate(SAR) value is 1.38 W/kg with an input power of 18 dBm. The performance of the proposed antenna is compared with that of previous works for verification.
