  • Electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power measurements on Mn-based $La_{2.1}Sr_{1.9}Mn_3O_{10}$ with layered perovskite structure as functions of temperature are presented. The experimental results demonstrate that the electronic transport in $La_{2.1}Sr_{1.9}Mn_3O_{10}$ is well described by the Emin-Holstein adiabatic small polaron model. The thermoelectric power data in the small polaron regime above Curie temperature is nearly equal to that predicted by nominal $Mn^{4+}$ valence arguments. This indicates that transport involves small polaron hopping.

  • The dc resistivity and thermoelectric power of bilayered perovskite $La_{1.4}(Sr_{0.2}Ca_{1.4})Mn_2O_7$ were measured as a function of the temperature. In the ferromagnetic phase, ${\rho}(T)$ was accurately predicted by $a_0+a_2T^2+a_{4.5}T^{4.5}$ with and without an applied field. At high temperatures, a significant difference between the activation energy deduced from the electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power, a characteristic of small polarons, was observed. All of the experimental data can be feasibly explained on the basis of the small polaron.

  • Polycrystalline $La_{2.1}Sr_{1.9}Mn_3O_{10}$ with layered perovskite structure have been successfully synthesized and investigated with respect to their thermoelectric, electric and magnetic properties. The large magnetoresistance (MR) effect with $-{\Delta}{\rho}/{\rho}_0$ of ∼120% at 0.85T was observed in a wide temperature range below a cusp temperature in resistivity of about 120K, which is well below the magnetic $T_C$. At high temperature, a singnificant difference between the activation energy deduced from the electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power, a characteristic of small polaron, is observed. All of the experimental data can be well explained on the basis of the small polaron model.

  • The thermoelectric power, dc conductivity and magnetic properties of the cubic L $a_{2}$ 3/Ti $O_{2.84}$ were investigated. The thermoelectric power was negative below 350 K. The measured thermoelectric power of L $a_{2}$ 3/Ti $O_{2.84}$ increased linearly with temperature, in agreement with model proposed by Emin and Wood, and was represented by A+BT. Temperature dependence indicates that the charge carrier in this material is a small polaron. L $a_{2}$ 3/Ti $O_{2.84}$ exhibited a cross over from variable range hopping to small polaron hopping conduction at a characteristic temperature well below room temperature. The low temperature do conduction mechanism in L $a_{2}$ 3/Ti $O_{2.84}$ was analyzed using Mott's approach. Mott parameter analysis gave values for the density of state at Fermi level [N( $E_{F}$)] = 3.18${\times}$10$^{20}$ c $m^{-3}$ e $V^{-1}$ . The disorder energy ( $W_{d}$) was found to be 0.93 eV, However, it was noted that the value of the disorder energy was much higher than the high temperature activation energy. The exist linear relation between log($\sigma$T)와 1/T in the range of 200 to 300 K, the activation energy for small polaron hopping was 0.15 eV.

  • The thermoelectric power and dc conductivity of $La_{2/3+x}TiO_{3-{\delta}}$ (x = 0, 0.13) were investigated. The thermoelectric power was negative between 80K and 300K. The measured thermoelectric power of x = 0.13 increased linearly with increased temperatures and was represented by $S_0+BT$. The x = 0 sample exhibited insulating behavior, while the x = 0.13 sample showed metallic behavior. The electric resistivity of x = 0.13 had a linear temperature dependence at high temperatures and a T3/2 dependence below about 100K. On the other hand, the electric resistivity of x = 0 has a linear relation between $ln{\rho}/T$ and 1/T in the range of 200 to 300K, and the activation energy for small polaron hopping was 0.23 eV. The temperature dependence of thermoelectric power and the resistivity of x = 0 suggests that the charge carriers responsible for conduction are strongly localized. This temperature dependence indicates that the charge carrier (x = 0) is an adiabatic small polaron. These experimental results are interpreted in terms of spin (x = 0.13) and small polaron (x = 0) hopping of almost localized Ti 3d electrons.

  • Thermoelectric power and resistivity are measured for the perovskite $LaNi_{1-x}Ti_xO_3$ ($x{\leq}0.5$) in the temperature range 77 K - 300 K. The measured thermoelectric power of $LaNi_{1-x}Ti_xO_3$ ($x{\leq}0.5$) increases linearly with temperature and is represented by A + BT. The x = 0.1 sample showed metallic behavior, the x = 0.3 showed metal and insulating transition around 150 K, and x = 0.5 showed insulating behavior the over the whole temperature range. The electrical resistivity of x = 0.1 shows linear temperature dependence over the whole temperature range and $T^2$ dependence. On the other hand, the electrical resistivity of x = 0.3 shows a linear relation between $ln{\rho}$ and $T^{-1/4}$ (variable range hopping mechanism) in the range of 77 K to 150 K. For x = 0.5, the temperature dependence of resistivity is characteristic of insulating materials; the resistivity data was fitted to an exponential law, such as ln(${\rho}/T$) and $T^{-1}$, which is usually attributed to a small polaron hopping mechanism. These experimental results are interpreted in terms of the spin polaron (x = 0.1) and variable range hopping (x = 0.3) or small polaron hopping (x = 0.5) of an almost localized $Ni^{3+}$ 3d polaron.

  • Temperature dependent thermoelectric power (TEP) of La$_{2.1}$ Sr$_{1.9}$ Mn$_3$O$_{10}$ system has been studied in the temperature range 80-373 K. In the low temperature ferromagnetic regime, TEP (S) follows an expression of formS=S$_{0}$ +S$_{1.5}$ T$^{1.5}$ +S$_4$T$^4$ over the wide range of temperature. The broad peak below the ferromagnetic transition and complicated temperature dependence of S may be understood on the basis of electron-magnon scattering as predicted for an itinerant ferromagnet. High temperature TEP data can be well fitted with Mott's small polaron hopping model.

  • The ac, dc conductivity and dielectric properties of $DyCoO_3$ were reported in the temperature range of 77 - 300K and in the frequency range of 20 Hz - 100 kHz. It was observed that at low temperature, ac conductivity is much higher than dc conductivity and the hopping carrier between localized states near the Fermi level was the dominant loss mechanism. A comparison of the measured ac conductivity $\sigma(\omega)$ was made with some of the models of hopping conductivity of the proposed earlier in the literature. It was observed that in $DyCoO_3$ the measured ac conductivity, over the entire frequency and temperature region, can be explained reasonably well by assuming two contributions $\sigma_1(\omega)$ and $\sigma_2(\omega)$ to the measured $\sigma(\omega)$. The first, $\sigma_1(\omega)$, which dominates at low temperature, may be due to impurity conduction in a small polaron; the second, $\sigma_2(\omega)$, which dominates at higher temperatures, depending on the frequency of measurements, may be due to the hopping of a small polaron and is reasonable for the dielectric relaxation peak.

  • Magnetic and transport properties in the ceramic specimen of L $a_{0.7}$S $r_{0.3}$Fe $O_3$ with orthohombic structure has been investigated. Weak ferromagnetism has been observed in a ceramic sample of L $a_{0.7}$S $r_{0.3}$Fe $O_3$. Large dielectric relaxation of Debye type is observed in paramagnetic states within the temperature range of 130K~200K. From the temperature dependence of the characteristic frequency, we concluded that the elementary process of the dispersion is related to holes hopping between F $e^{3+}$ and F $e^{4+}$ ions. The temperature dependencies of thermoelectric power and Dc conductivity suggest that the charge carrier responsible for the conduction are strongly localized. These experimental results have been interpreted in terms of a hopping process involving small polaron.n.laron.n.

  • The dc resistivity dc magnetization and thermopower of layered perovskite La1.6Ca1.4Mn2O7.07 have been studied. The ceramic sample of La1.6Ca1.4Mn2O7.07 undergoes the metal-insulator transition at 120K while a first-order phase transition from a ferromagnetic phase to a paramagnetic phae is observed at 260 K=TC This behavior is quite different from that of the well-known double exchange ferromagnets such as La1-xCaxMnO3 This phenomenon could be understood by considering the effects of the anisotropic double exchange interaction caused by two dimensional Mn-O-Mn networks in this materials. The dc magnetization between 120K and 250K is nearly constant and decreases rapidly with increasing temperature above 250K The measurements of dc resistivity and thermopower indicate that Zener polaron hopping conduction takes place above 260 K.
