  • This paper presents a comparative analysis on step and the touch voltages generated by either a sine and a ring wave voltage generator; this analysis was done as a basic study in order to develop a small and lightweight ground meter. A ring wave generator using pulsed power technology was fabricated; an experimental grounding system specified in Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards 80 and 81 was installed. The step and the touch voltages, which were measured using comparable a sine and a ring waves in terms of magnitude and frequency, were equal. Using pulsed power technology, the weight of the fabricated ring wave generator could be reduced to one-fifth of that of a sine wave generator. Consequently, if a ground meter adopts the ring wave instead of a sine wave, it will be possible to reduce the weight of a ground meter and improve the efficiency of measurement.

  • Lots of electric power has been wasted through the load bank usually in the container boxes during the generator load test of the ship and offshore plant in the new ship building. Therefore in this research, the quantity of wasted electric power through generator load test under construction was investigated on big shipbuilding yard and quantity of electric power that can be recovered is analyzed when produced electric power during the generator load test is connected to KEPCO Grid, according to laboratory's experiment result where recovers electric power produced from small generator connected to KEPCO Grid.

  • A swirler with turbulence generator is designed and manufactured for generating many small-scale eddies in the combustor which contribute to enhancing mixing effect between fuel and air. The method results in not only the disadvantage of pressure loss but also the advantage of promoting combustion and reducing NOx. For the purpose of the study, four kinds of swirler with different turbulence generator area (0%, 3%, 7%, and 12% of reducing flow area) are designed to confirm the effect of mixing according the variation in the area of the turbulence generator. The mixing of combustor in the radial direction is significantly improved and the distributions of flames and temperature are well distributed throughout the cross section of a combustor as area of swirl generator is increased.

  • Cosine and Sine function is widely used for the arithmetic, translation, object drawing, Simulation and etc. of Computer Graphics in Natural Science and Engineering. In general, Cordic Algorithm is effective method since it has relatively small size and simple architecture on trigonometric function generation. However profitably it has those merits, the problem of operation speed is occurred. In graphic display system, the operation result of object drawing is quantized and has the condition that is satisfied with rms error less than 1. So in this paper, the proposed generator is composed of partition operation at each ${\pi}/4$ and basic Cosine, Sine function generator in the range of $0{\sim}{\pi}/4$ using the lower order of Tayler's series in an acceptable error range, that enlarge the range of $0{\sim}2{\pi}$ according to a definition of the trigonometric function for the purpose of having a high speed Cosine, Sine function generation. And, division operator using code partition for divisor three is proposed, the proposed function generator has high speed operation, but it has the problems in the other application parts with accurate results, is need to increase the speed of the multiplication.

  • The cogging torque is important to the cut-in wind speed. And, it causes the acoustic noise and the vibration on the machine. This paper presents a 3D FEA(Finite Element Analysis) to evaluate the effect of magnet skew and stator displacement on cogging torque reduction, for double core AFPM(Axial Flux Permanent Magnet) generator. As a result, the magnet skew and the stator side displacement are proved excellent techniques to reduce the cogging torque.

  • This paper newly proposes an efficient analytic springback prediction method to predict the final dimensions of bent cylindrical tubes for a helical tube steam generator in a small modular reactor. Three-dimensional bending procedure is treated as a two-dimensional in-plane bending procedure by integrating the Euler beam theory. To enhance the accuracy of the springback prediction, mathematical representations of flow stress and elastic modulus for unloading are systematically integrated into the analytic prediction model. This technique not only precisely predicts the final dimensions of the bent helical tube after a springback, but also effectively predicts the various target radii. Numerical validations were performed for five different radii of helical tube bending by comparing the final radius after a springback.

  • This paper proposes a low-cost switched-mode rectifier (SMR) for a small-scale wind turbine with a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) system. Also, a sensorless Fuzzy MPPT control is realized by the proposed system. In the PMSG system with the SMR, the synchronous impedance can be replaced as the input inductor of a boost converter. Moreover, the sensorless MPPT control using the Fuzzy technique is carried out by the duty-ratio regulation of the SMR. The relation between the generating power and the duty-ratio is ruled by the chain rule. The wind turbine model is implemented by the squirrel cage induction motor and generated the variable torque when the generator speed is varied. To verify the performance of the proposed system, simulation and experimental results are executed.

  • This paper deals with experimental verifications and the electromagnetic characteristics analysis of multi-pole permanent magnet (PM) generator for small-scaled wind power system. Field distribution due to PMs and winding current, cogging torque considering skew effect are analyzed. In addition, using the equivalent circuit method and dynamic d-q method, generating performance analysis is performed. • Density and velocity perturbations in scales most relevant for the first galaxy formation are strongly affected by large-scale density perturbations, velocity-divergence perturbations and the baryon-cold dark matter (CDM) streaming velocities. Even at redshifts as high as z~200, this mode-mode coupling imprints a significant impact on the small-scale perturbations, at the wavenumber k >${\sim}100Mpc^{-1}$, as was calculated in our recent work. This implies that cosmological initial conditions based on the usual linear theory is no longer valid in these scales. We present a new cosmological initial condition generator, BCCOMICS, which generates initial conditions for the cold dark matter (CDM) and baryons in scales most relevant for the first galaxy formation. BCCOMICS is based on the linear perturbation theory including the mode-mode coupling terms, and generates cosmological initial conditions for the SPH-basded code GADGET and the AMR-based code ENZO. We also present our preliminary result on the cosmic variance of the first galaxy formation, studied by using BCCOMICS.
