  • Aluminum sheet application to automobile body panels has now become an important objective to meet the requirements of automobile weight reduction. As the Mg content in Al-Mg based alloys increased up to 7.19%, the strength and elongation increased. For instance. Al-7.19Mg alloy had a high strength of 305MPa and a high elongation of 35%. A study was also made to investigate the interrelation between grain size and tensile properties with varying the contents of Mg, Ti and Zr elements and annealing conditions. The yield stress decreased as the grain size increased, which increased the uniform elongation. The strain hardening exponents n increased as the Mg content increased, which depended on the increasing difficulties of the cross slip of dislocation.

  • The effects of slip composition and processing conditions on the fabrication of ceramic heat exchanger cores by doctor blade process were investigated. Since the effects of those two variables were inter-dependent, the effects of binder system, binder plus plasticizer, were extensively studied for a limited range of processing conditions and a pre-determined ceramic composition. The content of binder system and the ratio of binder to plasticizer were identified as main variables to affect densities and mechanical properties of green sheets, compressive properties and bond strengths of laminates, and shrinkages and their anisotropy of sintered laminates. However, sintered densities and water absorptions of laminates were not influenced by either the content of binder system or the ratio of binder to plasticizer, when the debinded laminates had a relatively high density (relative density of >55% in this study).

  • To obtain an excellent product and decide on optimum molding conditions, it is important to establish the relationship between molding conditions and viscosity. The composites is treated as a pseudoplastic fluid, and the expansional/contractional viscosity of the fiber-reinforced polymeric composites is measured using the parallel plastometer, and the model for flow state has been simulated with the viscosity. The effects of expansional slip parameter $\alpha_{e}$, and expansional/contractional viscosity ratio ${\mu}_{\gamma}$, on the mold filling parameters are also discussed.

  • During a compression molding process of Unidirectional Fiber Reinforced Plastic Composites, control of filling patterns in mold and distribution of fiber is needed to predict the effects of molding parameters on the flow characteristics. To obtain an excellent product and decide optimum molding conditions, it is important to know the relationship between molding conditions and viscosity. In this study, the anisotropic viscosity of the Unidirectional Fiber Reinforced Plastic Composites is measured by using the parallel plastometer. The model for flow state has been simulated by using the viscosity. The composites is treated as an incompressible New-tonian fluid. The effects of longitudinal/transverse viscosity ration A and slip parameter $\alpha$ on buldging phenomenon and mold filling patterns, are also discussed.

  • A fast, accurate model for calculating roll gap variables are critical to the implementation of computer based automation systems for cold rolling mills. Based on the work of Fleck and Johnson, rollgap simulator with non-circular arc model was developed using the influence function. This developed model is capable of predicting values of force, torque and slip which can be applied over the wide range of rolling conditions including cold rolling/DR/temper mill with high execution speed. Friction coefficient was obtained as a function of operation conditions through analyzing measured data. After combination of rollgap simulator with production strategy, draft schedule for No.3 RCM (Reversible Cold Rolling Mill) in Incheon works of Dongbu Steel was developed. This draft schedule will be installed in the setup computer of No.3 RCM replacing old Hitachi model.

  • A computer program was developed to simulate effect of the initial track tension on the tractive performance of tracked vehicles. The performance was evaluated in terms of drawbar pull, motion resistance, tractive coefficient and tractive efficiency. Results of the simulation showed that increase in track tension decreases the sinkage and mean maximum pressure in clay, making the ground pressure distribution more uniform. This tendency became more evident when the number of roadwheels increased. However, such change in MMPs was negligible in firm soils. Motion resistance was also decreased with increase in track tension and the number of roadwheels. Under weak soil conditions, tractive coefficient and efficiency increased generally as the track tension increased for a slip range of 10∼30%. For slippage less than 3∼4%, however, the tractive coefficient decreased with increase in track tension. In general, it was known that increasing track tension improves tractive performance in weak soil conditions. However, high track tension can reduce efficiency due to the increment of internal motion resistance caused by increased track tension.

  • In order to provide the basic data for planning of housing safety, the actual conditions of home accidents were analyzed. As research data, the medical charts of patients on the general hospital in the large city in two years 1987 and 1992 were used. The rate of home accidents increased in 1992. Children had more accidents than others and single family dwellings were the predominant place of accidents. The accidents slip frequently occured(21.1%), with respect to the place, room was the main place of accidents(40.5%), the accidents in a living room and a kitchen increased in 1992. 59.2% of the total patients were slightly injured, the faulty design was the main cause of the accidents and the acciednts by the personal factor increased in 1992. In the next study(III), I'm going to analyze the relationships among types of accidents, places of accidents, defrees of accidents, causes of accidents, and the personal characteristics of patients.

  • In this paper, we propose the mathematical model for the vehicle system including running characteristics. The well defined model for a system is necessary to study and to enhance system performance. To model the dynamic properties of vehicle system, we have considered two fundamental parts. The first part is the motion equations for vehicle based on Newton's second law. The second part is the torque dynamics of the traction motor. These parts are affected by outer conditions such as adhesive coefficient, running resistance and gradient resistance. The each parts are presented by the numerical formula. To test the driving characteristics of the developed model, we performed the simulations by dynamic system simulation software, "SIMULINK" and the results are given for several conditions.

  • A methodology is presented for computing stresses in structural concrete members exposed to fire. Coupled heat and moisture migration simulations are used to establish temperature, pore pressure, and liquid-saturation state variables within near-surface zones of heated concrete members. Particular attention is placed on the use of coupled heat and multiphase fluid flow simulations to study phenomena such as moisture-clogging. Once the state variables are determined, a procedure for combining the effects of thermal dilation, mechanical loads, pore pressure, and boundary conditions is proposed and demonstrated. Combined stresses are computed for varying displacement boundary conditions using data obtained from coupled heat and moisture flow simulations. These stresses are then compared to stresses computed from thermal analyses in which moisture effects are omitted. The results demonstrate that moisture migration has a significant influence on the development of thermal stresses.

  • In order to develop a high efficiency fire pump, its performance characteristics with various operating conditions are investigated. The governing equations are derived from making using of three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and SIMPLE algorithm. Using a commercial code, CFX, pressure distribution and flow fields in a fire pump are calculated with various ranges of rotating speed 800-2400 rpm. Particularly, calculations with multiple frames of reference method between the rotating and stationary parts of the domain are carried out. With the help of numerical results, correlation formula between the casing pressure and the efficiency is derived.
