  • The optimum design of turbine blade at minimized fatigue life can be derived by the statistical fatigue analysis in this study, The optimum value of positions in the axes of X and Y at turbine blade can be found by design of experiments on the condition that the value of fillet radius is fixed to minimize the fatigue life. The degree of uncertainty about process at the factors in the axes of X and Y can be calculated by six sigma analysis. The optimum value of fillet radius is determined by utilizing the robust design at uncertain condition. It is concluded that maximum von Mises stress can decreased by 20% and the fatigue life can be double.

  • Six sigma methodology is the management tools not only can cause productivity enhancement through the quality control and cost reduction of products and services but also can be applied to various activities of corporates such as research and development. Development of high-density information storage media and devices is indispensible to accomplish the information convergence era. In this paper, we report the case of applying six sigma methodology and tools to the development project of high-density information storage media. The standard DMAIC process was applied to the project and pursuing goals and tools and results in each stage were explained in detail. By adopting the methodology, we could establish fabrication methods of information storage media of recording density higher than $250Gb/in^2$ with high uniformity and reproducibility. The magnetic property and performance of fabricated media were confirmed through measurement of the magnetic hysteresis curve.

  • As more individuals and organizations participate in the complex design process of manufacturing industry, collaborative product development and management of the global supply chain have become more popular. Although the product quality concerns once focused on the manufacturing process, they are now directed at earlier stages of the design cycle where the engineering product is created as a 3D CAD model. In this paper, we describe the current state of product data quality activities in the manufacturing industry and the yardstick to measure 3D CAD data quality. Moreover we introduce a quality assurance method through the result of statistical analysis of 3D CAD models and suggest a six sigma level of CAD data quality by analyzing 76 samples provided from three Korean automotive companies.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to improve the chromaticity coordinate quality of white LED packages for automobiles that require high quality and reliability. Methods: The project follows the structured methodology of the Six Sigma DMAIC Roadmap, which consists of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control phases. Results: A CTQ is determined based on COPQ analysis, and a process map and a XY matrix are utilized for selecting process input variables. Three vital Few Xs are identified through data analysis; amount to mix at one time, deviation by head pumps, and deviation by production magazines, and process improvements are performed for each of the three vital Few Xs. Conclusion: The improved process conditions for the three vital Few Xs are applied to the production line, and the results show that the percent defective of chromaticity coordinate has improved from 1.59% to 0.63% and a financial effect of about 50 million won per year is obtained.

  • Purpose: This study carried out the Quality by Design (QbD)6σ process to verify the effectiveness and equivalence of the finished D-antigen quantitative test method, and compared the OFAT-based method validation and test result acceptance criteria with the Analytical Quality by Design (AQbD)-based method validation and test method. This is a study on how to reduce the risk of delay in permit change by increasing the reliability of permit data in the existing method by statistically analyzing the results. Methods: With the QbD6σ process, the effectiveness and equivalence of the D-antigen quantitative test method were verified with the data of the existing test method and the new test method. Results: Method validation tests are performed based on AQbD. Critical Method Parameters are identified through risk assessment, and single/combined actions are verified by designing and performing tests for Critical Method Parameters (analysis of variance, full factorial design method). Method validation can be effectively accomplished with the QbD6σ process. Conclusion: The use of QbD6σ can be used to achieve satisfactory results for both pharmaceutical companies and regulators by using appropriate statistical analytical methods for method validation as required by regulatory agencies.

  • The usefulness of constitutional diagnoses based on skin measurements has been established in oriental medicine. According to Sasang constitutional medicine, humans can be distinguished based on properties of skin's friction, thickness and elasticity. To quantify and standardize skin diagnosis, the present study designed an equipment for measuring skin elasticity of hand. But there were some noises in measuring skin elasticity such as measurement method, environment, operator and conditions of patient. So we considered a six sigma project for reducing the measurement errors. The project was followed to discipline process of five macro phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control(DMAIC). So, we could find the major factors which should be controled for stabilizing measurement system and we revised the SOP(Standard Operating Procedure) of the skin elasticity measurement.

Methods: For this study, we investigate the key success factors using literature research of the most typical management innovation activities adopted and implemented by many companies in Korea, such as 6sigma, TQM, Lean 6sigma, ERP, TPM, BPR, Project Management, System Engineering. Factors emerging repeatedly was combined into common factors and inherent factors that are necessary for the success of individual management innovation activities are designated to essential factors. Results: 'Essential factors for Six Sigma' consist of 5 items. Black belt operating system, personnel management system linkage, the correct management of the data, perform improvement projects associated with financial performance financial result, linked to financial performance improvement project, project progress management. 'Essential factors of TQM' are arranged 4 items. Quality team's independence and role, goal-setting, Quality Information System, corporate's philosophy of quality first. 'Essential factors of Lean Six Sigma' are the selection of value stream which is based on the customer needs and the value creation and identify the project based on the selected value in the company. • Pb-free wave soldering process of AC Adapter was implemented by six sigma method using Sn-Cu-Ni type solder. The solder joint appearance, microstructural change, a lift-off phenomenon and reliability were evaluated through thermal shuck test. $(Cu,Ni)_6/Sn_5$-type intermetallic compound of which thickness is about 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was found at solder joint between Sn-Cu-Ni solder and copper land. After applying the thermal shock test of as-soldered product up to 750 cycles, no crack was fecund at the solder joint. The newly developed product was superior to conventional one in terms of productivity and reliability.
