  • Since six sigma program was first introduced in late 1990's, it has been evolved in Korea. The number of six sigma adopting company are getting increased and diversify manufacturing, service, government. In these days, the rapid innovation of internet technology change the media industry's game rule. This paper is concerned with a six sigma applications to internet media portal service company. The main focus of this study is to introduce an empirical study on the implementation of DMAIC procedures for internet media portal service company.

  • This study investigated the method of continuous improvement of small-medium company production processes through POSCO's QSS(Quick Six Sigma) activities. QSS is a field operation technique that encompasses the advantages of Six Sigma, TPS(Toyota Production System), TQM (Total Quality Management), and IE(Industrial Engineering). Through this, POSCO not only encourages activities centered on related small and medium-sized partners, etc., but is also expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's own production process through QSS activities. In this study, rather than unconditionally carrying out activities according to the needs of large companies, the research is to help the continuous improvement of the actual production process of small and medium-sized enterprises by effectively applying and spreading QSS activities in consideration of the characteristics and environment of the company. For this purpose, empirical research is conducted on the process improvement activities and QSS activities of company Y, which has less than 100 assembly and production quality and inspection processes among SMEs. The changes in the production process improvement of SMEs through the application of the final QSS were investigated through empirical studies.

  • Goal of "Single PPM Quality Innovation Movement" is to achieve perfect quality through participation of all members in the production line to achieve zero defects. Six Sigma has been used by many leading corporations as a tool for Management Innovation. Recently, the number of small and medium sized companies implementing Six Sigma has increased. Therefore, this research introduces the case of "S" company which utilized Six Sigma and Single PPM together to effectively implement Single PPM Quality Innovation Movement. This paper describes issues identified during the Single PPM Quality Innovation Movement implementation and also suggests improvement plans.

  • This paper is concerned with a six sigma green belt training program. Comparative studies of existing training programs for three major companies (Samsung Electronics Company, Hyundai Motor Company, and LG Chemical Ltd.) and two consulting firms (Korean Standards Association and Korea Management Association) are made. Based on the comparative studies, a new green belt training program is proposed. The main focus of this program is on manufacturing, specially on cost and waste reductions, yield improvement, and operations with opportunity to improve capacity without major capital expenditure. The green belts take up to 4 or 5 days of intensive, highly quantitative training, roughly corresponding to the five macro phases of the six sigma methodology: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. The six sigma tool sets for each phase are also specified.

  • The project objectives, called critical-to-quality (CTQs) in six sigma, should be defined to faithfully reflect the customer requirements. The identification of such a set of CTQs, which is currently done using brainstorming in practice, is a challenging task. Notwithstanding the rapid growth of the six sigma literature, development of a systematic procedure for identifying CTQs has scarcely been addressed. This paper proposes a systematic method for generating CTQ candidates based on the given voice of the customer in the DFSS/C (Design for Six Sigma / Commercial) context. By providing a step-by-step procedure, the proposed method ensures that all the important CTQ candidates are identified and subjective judgments are minimally required. Hence, the shortcomings associated with the existing practice based on brainstorming can be effectively overcome. The unique characteristics of the proposed method are also demonstrated via a case study.

Comparative studies of existing training programs for three major companies (Samsung Electronics Company, Hyundai Motor Company, and LG Chemical Ltd.) and two consulting firms (Korean Standards Association and Korea Management Association) are performed. Based on the comparative studies, a cyber green belt training program is developed. The training program, which is composed of 34 modules, follows a disciplined process of five macro phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control (DMAIC). This cyber training program is serviced in the homepage http://ise.chonbuk.ac.kr/∼sixsigma. It has been utilized as one semester subject of "Six Sigma Quality Management" in the department of industrial engineering. The advantage and disadvantage of this cyber training program are also discussed.

  • Over ten years, 6sigma management is applied a lot in the part of indirect business as well as the manufacturing industry. But it has still been used restrictively the technique used on DMAIC that is a basic Roadmap of 6 sigma. This paper finds the improving skills that is used in the parts of manufacturing and indirect business and demonstrates their available scope with 6sigma projects. And this indicates which skills for improving are used valuable on each step of DMAIC with a systematic classification.

  • Face the process yield rate improvements of motherboard, although general enterprises finish deployment goal of each functions by overall quality managements, through quality improvement methods, industry engineering methods, plan-do-check-act (PDCA) methods and other improvement solutions, but it is only can be improved partially and unable to enhance the yield rate of product to the target. It only can takes one step ahead to enhance the process yield rate of motherboard with six sigma ($6{\sigma}$) overall DMAIC process and tactics. This research aimed to use six sigma quality improvement tactics by DMAIC systematic procedure and tactics, and find the key factors that effect to the process yield rate of surface mount technology. It also identified the keys input and process and output index to satisfy customer requirements and internal process index. The results showed that the major effective factors by fishbone and process failure modes and effects analysis (PFMEA). If the index of input and output that can be quantified, the optimum parameter can be found through design of experiment to ensure that the process is stable. If the factor of input and output that cannot be quantified, we found out the effective countermeasure by Mind_Mapping, make sure whole processes can be controlled stably, to reach the high product quality and enhance the customer satisfaction.

  • This study deals with the problem of selecting 6 sigma projects. Traditionally, such selection was based on CTQ (critical to quality) or COPQ (cost of poor quality) derived within business units. Since the objective of 6 sigma is to achieve business goals in a short period, 6 sigma projects should be selected and carried out in coincidence with the whole company's strategies. This paper proposes two methods of selecting 6 sigma projects: one is to identify CTQ's by analyzing the company's BSC's (balanced score card) and then deploying them into subunits of the company and the other is to identify those projects with large hidden COPQ or cost of waste by applying value stream analysis and process model simulation to derive process cost models.

  • This research has seven factors such as top management leadership, belt system operation, implementation of systematic methods, adequate project performance measurement, customer focus performance, quality performance and business performance. Those are critical to correct implementation of Six Sigma. I set seven hypotheses which represented the relationships among the seven factors, gathered questionnaires and analyzed the data. Top management leadership affected positively the adequate project performance measurement and the belt system operation, The belt system operation affected the implementation of systematic methods positively and it also affected the adequate project performance measurement. It affected positively the customer focus performance, the quality performance and the business performance, respectively.
