Multi-scale wireless sensor node for health monitoring of civil infrastructure and mechanical systems

  • This paper presents recent developments in an extremely compact, wireless impedance sensor node (the WID3, $\underline{W}$ireless $\underline{I}$mpedance $\underline{D}$evice) for use in high-frequency impedance-based structural health monitoring (SHM), sensor diagnostics and validation, and low-frequency (< ~1 kHz) vibration data acquisition. The WID3 is equipped with an impedance chip that can resolve measurements up to 100 kHz, a frequency range ideal for many SHM applications. An integrated set of multiplexers allows the end user to monitor seven piezoelectric sensors from a single sensor node. The WID3 combines on-board processing using a microcontroller, data storage using flash memory, wireless communications capabilities, and a series of internal and external triggering options into a single package to realize a truly comprehensive, self-contained wireless active-sensor node for SHM applications. Furthermore, we recently extended the capability of this device by implementing low-frequency analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters so that the same device can measure structural vibration data. The compact sensor node collects relatively low-frequency acceleration measurements to estimate natural frequencies and operational deflection shapes, as well as relatively high-frequency impedance measurements to detect structural damage. Experimental results with application to SHM, sensor diagnostics and low-frequency vibration data acquisition are presented.

  • Single crystal silicon (SCS) is used in a variety of microsensor applications in which stresses and other mechanical effects may dominate device performance. The authers model temperature dependent mechnical properties during focused io beam(FIB) cutting and Pt deposition processes. In microaccelero-meter manufacturing process, this paper intend to find thermal displacement change of the temperature by tunnel gap, additional beam part and pt deposition. The thermal analysis intend to use ANSYS V5.5.3.

  • This paper proposes an system to generate rolled-equivalent fingerprints by mosaicking sequential images captured by an toothless device. To capture rolled-equivalent fingerprints, previous works use multiple cameras. However, the method in this paper captures sequential fingerprint images with a single camera and mosaic the images by estimating the transform between images through optical flow.

  • A transflective liquid crystal displays associated with fringe field switching (FFS) mode of new concept is proposed. The device utilizes unique characteristic of the FFS mode in which the rotation angle of LC director is strongly dependent on electrode position in on state. We use the liquid crystal with negative dielectric anisotropy. Also we are look for optimized electrode size and the optimization of pixel electrode width and distance between them, the LC director could rotate about $22.5^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$ depending on electrode positions. Consequently, we get high transmittance and high reflection on the optimized electrode condition. Respectively, a high image quality transflective display with single gap and single gamma characteristics realized.

측면 연마 광섬유를 이용한 용액의 광학 특성 측정 (Measurement of Optical Properties of a Liquid Based on a Side-polished Optical Fiber)

  • In this paper, a measurement method to obtain the optical properties of a liquid base on a side-polished single mode fiber was proposed and demonstrated. The device showed periodic resonance coupling against wavelengths. The refractive index and dispersion characteristics of a liquid were calculated by use of the spacings of periodic resonance wavelengths of the device. The thermo-optic coefficient of the liquid was obtained by monitering the shift of resonance wavelengths of the devices with change of environmental temperature.

  • Halide perovskites are promising photovoltaic materials due to their excellent optoelectronic properties like high absorption coefficient, low exciton binding energy and long diffusion length, and single-junction solar cells consisting of them have shown a high certified efficiency of 25.2%. Despite of high efficiency, perovskite photovoltaics show poor stability under actual operational condition, which is the mostly critical obstacle for commercialization. Given that the stability of the perovskite devices is significantly affected by charge-transporting layers, the use of inorganic charge-transporting layers with better intrinsic stability than the organic counterparts must be beneficial to the enhanced device reliability. In this review article, we summarized a number of studies on the inorganic charge-transporting layers of the perovskite solar cells, especially focusing on their effects on the enhanced device reliability.

  • Continuing improvement of microprocessor performance involves in the devece size. This allow greater device speed, an increase in device packing density, and an increase in the number of functions that can reside on a single chip. However this has led to propagation delay, crosstalk noise, and power dissipation due to resistance-capacitance(RC) coupling become significant due to increased wiring capacitance, especially interline capacitance between the metal lines on the same metal level.   • The use of smart equipment such as drones is increasing in construction sites. In particular, there are frequent cases where two or more drones must be used at the same time. This leads to different considerations than when operating a single unit. This study aims to analyze the requirements to be considered in the case of the operation of drones that monitor fine dust and drones that reduce fine dust in order to reduce fine dust generated in construction sites.

인터렉티브 3D 플로팅 영상 포인팅 장치의 구현 (Implementation of interactive 3D floating image pointing device)

  • 본 논문에서는3D환경에서의 사용을 위한 새로운 형태의 인터렉티브 3D 플로팅 영상 포인팅 장치를 제안한다. 이 장치는 플로팅 렌즈 배열을 사용한3D플로팅 영상 재생 시스템과 실시간 손가락 검출 기반의 버턴형 인터페이스로 구성된다. 제안하는 장치에서는 사용자가 손가락을 이용하여 3D 공간에 플로팅 된 영상 배열에서 원하는 영역을 지시하고, 2대의 카메라를 이용하여 사용자의 손가락 인식하여 원하는 이벤트를 발생하는 인터렉션 기능을 효과적으로 수행한다. 제안하는 시스템의 유용함을 보이기 위해서, 실험적인 장치 구현을 수행하고 기초적인 실험 결과를 보고한다.

  • 본 논문은 IEEE 802.11a 무선 LAN 규격을 OFDM을 적용한 5GHz 기저 대역의 송 수신부 모뎀을 설계하고 FPGA로 실현하였다. 고속 데이터 전송시 발생하는 심벌간 간섭(ISI)을 제거하기 위하여 Normalized LMS 알고리듬을 적용한 단일탬 등화기를 사용하여 제거하였고, 또한 반송파 주파수 옵셋 알고리듬을 이용하여 채널간 간섭(ICI)을 제거하였다. 송ㆍ수신기간의 전송은 에러없이 정확히 전송되어짐을 시뮬레이션을 통하여 입증하였으며, 또한 타이밍 시뮬레이션 결과 최대 동작주파수는 20.3MHz로 IEEE 802.11a 무선 LAN 방식의 동작속도를 만족하였다. 그리고 설계시 DSP와 EMB(Embedded Memory Block)블록을 사용하여 레지스터의 수를 상당히 줄일 수 있었다. 모뎀 설계는 VHDL를 이용하여 설계하고 Altera사의 Stratix EPIS25FC672 FPGA Chip을 사용하여 구현하였다.
