In order to evaluate the devolatilization models of pulverized coal, various devolatilization models are examined for the numerical analysis of Drop Tube Furnace. The results of analysis are compared with the experimental results. A numerical study was conducted to explore the sensitivities of the predictions to variation of the model parameters. It helps to elucidate the source of the discrepancies. Three different wall temperature conditions of the DTF, 1100, 1300 and $1500^{\circ}C$ were considered in this analysis. Two fuels are U.S.A. Alaska coal and Australia Drayton coal. The results of analysis with constant rate model, single kinetic rate model and two competing rate modes well presented fast volatile matter release in the early devolatilization. However, in the latter devolatilization they did not coincide with experimental results which presented tardy volatile matter release on account of pyrolysis of high molecular substance. On the other hand, the results of analysis with DAEM(Distribute Activation Energy Model) coincided with experiment al results in overall devolatilization.
Many computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations have treated the coal kinetics poorly due to large physical domain sizes and high computational complexity, particularly for the recent oxy-coal boilers. Furthermore, some modelers' lack of understanding of the kinetic rate model seems to worsen the simulation accuracy. This study is to suggest the importance of proper use of single-film global kinetic model generally used in CFD code to describe the oxy-fuel combustion of coal char through simple char burnout calculation.
The simple Langmuir isotherm is frequently employed to describe the equilibrium behavior of protein adsorption on a wide variety of adsorbents. The two adjustable parameters of the Langmuir isotherm - the saturation capacity, or $q_m$, and the dissociation constant, $K_d$ - are usually estimated by fitting the isotherm equation to the equilibrium data acquired from batch equilibration experiments. In this study, we have evaluated the possibility of estimating $q_m$ and $K_d$ for the adsorption of bovine serum albumin to a cation exchanger using batch kinetic data. A rate model predicated on the kinetic form of the Langmuir isotherm, with three adjustable parameters ($q_m,\;K_d$, and a rate constant), was fitted to a single kinetic profile. The value of $q_m$ determined as the result of this approach was quantitatively consistent with the $q_m$ value derived from the traditional batch equilibrium data. However, the $K_d$ value could not be retrieved from the kinetic profile, as the model fit proved insensitive to this parameter. Sensitivity analysis provided significant insight into the identifiability of the three model parameters.
Batch adsorption tests were performed to evaluate the applicability of adsorption kinetic model by using hydrogel chitosan bead crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (HCB-G) for Cu(II) as cation and/or phosphate as anion. Pseudo first and second order model were applied to determine the sorption kinetic property and intraparticle and Boyd equation were used to predict the diffusion of Cu(II) and phosphate at pore and boundary-layer, respectively. According to the value of theoretical and experimental uptake of Cu(II) and phosphate, pseudo second order is more suitable. On comparison with the value of adsorption rate constant (k), phosphate kinetic was 2-4 times faster than that of Cu(II) at any experimental condition indicating the electrostatic interaction between ${NH_3}^+$ and phosphate is dominated at the presence of single component. However, when Cu(II) and phosphate simultaneously exist, the value of k for phosphate was sharply decreased and then the difference was not significant. Both diffusion models confirmed that the sorption rate was controlled by film mass transfer at the beginning time (t < 3 hr) and pore diffusion at next time section (t > 6 hr).
T7 bacteriophage gp4 is the replicative DNA helicase that unwinds double-stranded DNA by utilizing dTTP hydrolysis energy. The quaternary structure of the active form of T7 helicase is a hexameric ring with a central channel. Single-stranded DNA passes through the central channel of the hexameric ring as the helicase translocates $5'\rightarrow3'$ along the single-stranded DNA. The DNA unwinding was measured by rapid kinetic methods and showed a lag before the single-stranded DNA started to accumulate exponentially. This behavior was analyzed by a kinetic stepping model for the unwinding process. The observed lag phase increased as predicted by the model with increasing double-stranded DNA length. Trap DNA added in the reaction had no effect on the amplitudes of double-stranded DNA unwound, indicating that the $\tau7$ helicase is a highly processive helicase. Global fitting of the kinetic data to the stepping model provided a kinetic step size of 10-11 bp/step with a rate of $3.7 s^{-1}$ per step. Both the mechanism of DNA unwinding and dTTP hydrolysis and the coupling between the two are unaffected by temperature from $4∼37^{\circ}C$. Thus, the kinetic stepping for dsDNA unwinding is an inherent property of tile replicative DNA helicase.
The objective of this study was to depict the kinetic behavior of the platinum catalyst for the deep oxidation of aromatic solvents and their binary mixtures. The oxidation kinetics of aromatic solvents, which were benzene, toluene and m-xylene, was studied on a 0.5% $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst. Deep oxidation of binary mixtures, which were 1:1 in volume, was carried out and the inlet concentration was controlled in the range of 133 and 333ppmv. An approach based on the two-stage redox model was used to analysis the results. The deep oxidation conversion of aromatic solvents was inversely proportional to inlet concentration in plug flow reactor. This trend is due to the zeroth-order kinetics with respect to inlet concentration. The kinetic parameters of multicomponent model were independently evaluated from the single compound oxidation experiments. A simple multicomponent model based on two-stage redox rate model made reasonably good predictions of conversion over the range of parameters studied.

The kinetics of the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste polyurethane (PU) according to oxygen concentration has been studied using a non-isothermal thermogravimetric technique at several heating rates from 10 to $50^{\circ}C/min$. A kinetic model accounting for the effects of the oxygen concentration by the differential and integral method based on Arrhenius equation was proposed to describe the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste PU. To obtain the information on the kinetic parameters such as activation energy, reaction order, and pre-exponential factor, the thermogravimetric analysis curves and its derivatives have been analyzed using the kinetic analysis method proposed in this work. From this work, it was found that reaction orders for oxygen concentration had a negative sign, and activation energy decreased as the oxygen concentration increased. It was also found that the kinetic parameters obtained from the integral method using the single heating rate experiments varied with heating rates. Therefore, it is thought that the differential method using the multiple heating rate experiments more effectively represents the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste polyurethane.
The Schiff base cobalt(II) complex, bis[4-chloro-2-((E)-(isopropylimino) methyl) phenol]cobalt(II), has been prepared and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. The phenomenological, kinetic and mechanistic aspects of the cobalt (II) complex have been studied by TG/DTG techniques. On the basis of the experimental data, the kinetic parameters such as activation energy, pre-exponential factor and entropy of activation were computed, and then the most probable mechanism function was estimated as $g({\alpha})={\alpha}^2$ 2. Hence the rate controlling process at all stages of decomposition is onedimensional diffusion (Parabolic model).

The experimental work has been carried out for the study of pyrolysis of oil samples used in industrial and utility boilers in Korea. For five oil samples, the characteristics of pyrolysis have been investigated with a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), and their kinetic parameters were obtained and compared each other. The rate order of pyrolysis rate for five oils were as follows: by-product fuel oil, pyrolysis oil, diesel, a heavy oil and refined oil. The pyrolysis of refined oil has been successfully described by the three step, first order reaction model while the single step reaction model has been used for other oils. For the reaction temperature over 550 K, the reactivity of refined oil was very poor compared with other oils.
Modeling the growth kinetics of lactic acid bacteria (LAB), one of the most valuable microbial groups in the food industry, has been actively pursued in order to understand, control, and optimize the relevant fermentation processes. Most modeling approaches have focused on the development of single population models. Primary single population models provide fundamental kinetic information on the proliferation of a primary LAB species, the effects of biological factors on cell inhibition, and the metabolic reactions associated with cell growth. Secondary single population models can evaluate the dependence of primary model parameters, such as the maximum specific growth rate of LAB, on the initial external environmental conditions. This review elucidates some of the most important single population models that are conveniently applicable to the LAB fermentation analyses. Also, a well-defined mixed population model is presented as a valuable tool for assessing potential microbial interactions during fermentation with multiple LAB species.
