Broadcast scheme has been widely researched for efficient data delivery in the mobile environment because the downlink capacity of a mobile client is much greater than the uplink capacity, and the power of a mobile client is limited. In the proposed scheme, the index lets the client know when data items would be broadcasted and enables the client to minimize the tuning time and power consumption. Single channel index schemes are fit to flat broadcast that performs well when all the broadcasted data items are accessed with the same probability whereas the multi-disk broadcast scheme is proper when the data access distribution is skewed. The existing index schemes, however, cannot work on the Multi-disk broadcast scheme because they cannot point the replicating data items in a broadcast cycle. This paper proposes a Multi-disk Exponential Index (MDEI) which is a single channel index scheme fit to Multi-disk broadcast scheme. Because MDEI scheme organizes a separate index for each disk, it functions with multi-disk broadcast, resulting in a greater reduction of average access latency than that of other flat-broadcast index schemes when the data access distribution is skewed. The performance evaluation showed that MDEI has a good performance when data access distribution is skewed. MDEI has short average access latency and not much average tuning time when the data access distribution is skewed.

This paper presents boost and buck and buck-boost DC-DC converter circuit topologies of high-frequency soft switching transition PWM chopper type DC-DC high power converters with a single auxiliary passive resonant snubber. In the proposed boost power converter circuits operating under a principle of ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutation schemes, the capacitor and inductor in the auxiliary passive resonant circuit works as the loss less resonant snubber. In addition to this, the switching voltage and current peak stresses as well as EMI and RFI noises can be basically reduced by this single passive resonant snubber. Moreover, it is proved that converter circuit topologies with a passive resonant snubber are capable of solving some problems of the conventional hard switching PWM processing based on high-ferquency pulse modulation operation principle. The simulation results of this converter are discussed as compared with the experimental ones. The effectiveness of this power converter with a single passive resonant snubber is verified by the 5kW experimental breadboad set up.

In this paper, the parameters of the RTT (Radio Transmission Techniques) for SANET (Ship Ad-hoc NETwork), which is considered for the next generation maritime communication systems, are set up. A channel model has been analyzed based on the practical measured maritime wireless channel in VHF (Very-High Frequency) for SANET system. Also, by considering the frame structure including preamble, guard time and pilots for both single and multi-carrier systems, the BER (Bit Error Rate) performances are evaluated and analyzed in the aspects of channel compensation and channel coding techniques. Based on the simulation results, optimal modulation & coding schemes are suggested for SANET. That is, in single-carrier system by using differential modulation schemes, channel compensation is not necessary. However, channel coding is helpful to achieve additional gain. On the other hand, when 16-QAM modulation is employed in multi-carrier system, the implementation of both channel compensation and channel coding techniques show huge performance gain for various of K values, which are related to different maritime environments, and the rolling effects of wave.
In a wireless sensor network (WSN), the data transmission technique based on the cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (CMIMO) scheme reduces the energy consumption of sensor nodes quite effectively by utilizing the space-time block coding scheme. However, in networks with high node density, the scheme is ineffective due to the high degree of correlated data. Therefore, to enhance the energy efficiency in high node density WSNs, we implemented the distributed source coding (DSC) with the virtual multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) data transmission technique in the WSNs. The DSC-MIMO first compresses redundant source data using the DSC and then sends it to a virtual MIMO link. The results reveal that, in the DSC-MIMO scheme, energy consumption is lower than that in the CMIMO technique; it is also lower in the DSC single-input single-output (SISO) scheme, compared to that in the SISO technique at various code rates, compression rates, and training overhead factors. The results also indicate that the energy consumption per bit is directly proportional to the velocity and training overhead factor in all the energy saving schemes.

In this paper, we study mobile data collector (MDC) based data-gathering schemes in wireless sensor networks. In Such networks, MDCs are used to collect data from the environment and transfer them to the sink. The majority of existing data-gathering schemes suffer from high data-gathering latency because they use only a single MDC. Although some schemes use multiple MDCs, they focus on maximizing network lifetime rather than minimizing packet delay. In order to address the limitations of existing schemes, this paper focuses on minimizing packet delay for given number of MDCs and minimizing the number of MDCs for a given delay bound of packets. To achieve the minimum packet delay and minimum number of MDCs, two optimization problems are formulated, and traveling distance and traveling time of MDCs are estimated. The interior-point algorithm is used to obtain the optimal solution for each optimization problem. Numerical results and analysis are presented to validate the proposed method.
Moving objects' trajectories play an important role in indexing video data on their content and semantics for content-based video retrieval. In this paper, we propose new similar sub-trajectory retrieval schemes based on k-warping algorithm for efficient retrieval on moving objects' trajectories in video data. The proposed schemes are fixed-replication similar sub-trajectory retrieval(FRSR) and variable-replication similar sub-trajectory retrieval(VRSR). The former can replicate motions with a fixed number for all motions being composed of the trajectory. The latter can replicate motions with a variable number. Our schemes support multiple properties including direction, distance, and time interval as well as a single property of direction, which is mainly used for modeling moving objects' trajectories. Finally, we show from our experiment that our schemes outperform Li's scheme(no-warping) and Shan's scheme(infinite-warping) in terns of precision and recall measures.

In this paper, we propose multiple IS-MMBS service schemes for very low power and micro-size RMIMS (radio-interfaced micro information monitoring system) terminals. In MMBS service area, when new arrival RMIMS terminals have real-time traffic characteristic or large traffic bandwidth, only single IS-MMBS service scheme can not guarantee RMIMS terminal's QoS(quality of service) such as buffer overflow or packet loss. In this case, the proposed multiple IS-MMBS service schemes can be effectively used for QoS service of RMIMS terminal. According to clustering method of RMIMS terminals and MMBS segment method, the proposed schemes can be divided into terminal segment method, region segment method, application based segment method, traffic type based segment method, overlapping segment method and hybrid segment method
This paper presents a heuristic algorithm for classifying vehicles using a single loop detector. The data used for the development of the algorithm are the frequency variation of a vehicle sensored from the circle-shaped loop detectors which are normal buried beneath the expressway. The pre-processing of data is required for the development of the algorithm that actually consists of two parts. One is both normalization of occupancy time and that with frequency variation, the other is finding of an adaptable number of sample size for each vehicle category and calculation of average value of normalized frequencies along with occupancy time that will be stored for comparison. Then, detected values are compared with those stored data to locate the most fitted pattern. After the normalization process, we developed some frameworks for comparison schemes. The fitted scales used were 10 and 15 frames in occupancy time(X-axis) and 10 and 15 frames in frequency variation (Y-axis). A combination of X-Y 10-15 frame turned out to be the most efficient scale of normalization producing 96 percent correct classification rate for six types of vehicle.
Space-Time (ST) codes are known to provide high transmission rates, diversity and coding gains. In this paper, a tight upper bound on the error probability of ST codes over rapid fading channels is presented. Moreover, ST codes suitable for rapid fading channels are presented. These codes are designed using the QPSK and 16-QAM signal constellations. The proposed codes are based on two different encoding schemes. The first scheme uses a single trellis encoder, whereas the second scheme uses the I-Q encoding technique. Code design is achieved via partitioning the signal space such that the design criteria are maximized. As a solution for the decoding problem of I-Q ST codes, the paper introduces a low-complexity decoding algorithm. Results show that the I-Q ST codes using the proposed decoding algorithm outperform singleencoder ST codes with equal complexity. The proposed codes are tested over fading channels with different interleaving conditions, where it is shown that the new codes are robust under such imperfect interleaving conditions.
This paper studies theoretically the bit error rate (BER) performance of cooperative transmission using space-time block code (STBC) in a fully distributed manner. Specifically, we first propose a STBC-based cooperative signaling structure to make the cooperation of three single-antenna terminals possible. Then, we derive the closed-form BER expressions for both cooperation and noncooperation schemes under flat Rayleigh fading channel plus additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The validity of these expressions is verified by Monte-Carlo simulations. A variety of numerical and simulation results reveal that the cooperative transmission achieves higher diversity gain and better performance than the direct transmission for the same total transmit power.
