The high accurate simulation of very thin glue layers based on the finite element method is still connected to many problems which result from the necessity to construct a complicated mesh of essentially different sizes of elements. This can lead to a loss of accuracy, unstable calculations and even loss of convergence. However, the implementation of special transmission elements along the glue ling and special edge-elements in the near-edge region would lead to a dramatic decrease of number of finite elements in the mesh and thus, prevent unsatisfactory phenomena in numerical analysis and extensive computation time. The theoretical basis for such special elements is the knowledge about appropriate transmission conditions and the edge effects near the free boundary of the adhesive layer. Therefore, recently proposed so-called non-classical transmission conditions and the behavior near the free edge are investigated in the context of the single-lap tensile-shear test of adhesive technology.

Composite materials are effective in forming externally bonded reinforcements which find applications related to existing structures repair, attributed to their high strength-to-weight ratio and ease of installation. Among various composites, fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) have somewhat been largely accepted as a commonly utilized composite for such purposes. It is only recently that steel fibres have been considered as additional members of the FRP fibre family, intuitively termed as steel reinforced polymer (SRP). Owing to its low cost and permissibility of fibre bending at sharp corners, SRP is rapidly becoming a viable contender to other FRP systems. This paper investigates the bond behaviour of SRP-concrete joints with different bonded lengths (50, 75, 100, 150 and 300 mm) and widths (15, 30, 40, 50, and 75 mm) using single-lap shear tests. The experimental specimens contain SRP strips with a fixed density of steel fibres (0.472 cords/mm) bonded to the face of concrete prisms. The load responses were obtained and compared in terms of corresponding load and slip boundaries of the constant region and the peak loads. The failure modes of SRP composites are discussed, and the range of effective bonded length is evaluated herein. In the end, a new analytical model was proposed to estimate the SRP-concrete bond strength using a genetic algorithm, which outperforms 22 existing FRP-concrete bond strength models.
A connection was made between a single stretcher and 2 headers with 2 threaded nails (Type-A), and another one between 2 stretchers and 2 headers with 4 threaded nails (Type-B) to use as specimens. Type-C was the stretchers that are connected with 2 threaded nails by half lap joint at end-distance 5D to reinforce Type-B, Type-C1 the stretchers that are connected by half lap joint at end-distance 10D, and Type-C2 with 3 threaded nails at end-distance 10D. Compressive shear strength of Type-C, the supplementation of Type-B, was decreased by 30%, compared with that of Type-B. Those of Type-B and Type-C1 that used longer end-distance than Type-C were about the same, and that of Type-C2 connected with 3 threaded nails was 1.28-times stronger than that of Type-C1. Connection of the retaining wall using existing square timber has a problem between long and short stretchers and 2 headers. So it was investigated in the experiment to replace it. Therefore, if Type-B is replaced with Type-C2 in constructing the retaining wall, the crack and the rupture of timber caused by threaded nail as well as construction period can be reduced, and also it can be expected to increase their own strength.
Epoxy adhesive was mainly used to combine different composite materials. Epoxy adhesive was a typical thermosetting resin that can be bonded by changing from a linear structure to a three-dimensional network structure by curing reaction of epoxy and hardener. The curing conditions of epoxy adhesive were different with different types of hardener such as mixing ratio, curing time, and temperature. These curing conditions affected to the adhesive property of epoxy adhesive. In industry, it was difficult to proceed the applying epoxy adhesive and combining two parts immediately. The adhesive property decreased by humidity and pre-curing of epoxy adhesive in waiting time between two processes. In this paper, the glass fiber reinforced composite (GFRC) was combined with epoxy adhesive and adhesion property between epoxy adhesive and GFRCs was evaluated using single lap shear test. The different waiting times and humidity conditions were applied to epoxy adhesive in room temperature and adhesive property decreased as the waiting time increased. In small amount of humidity, the adhesive property increased because a small amount of moisture in the surroundings accelerated the curing reaction. In certain amount of humidity, however, the adhesion property decreased.

In this study, optimization of the process parameters of the resistance spot welding of a sheet of aluminum-coated boron alloyed steel, 22MnB5, used in hot stamping has been performed by a Taguchi method to increase the strength of the weld joint. The process parameters selected were current, electrode force, and weld time. The heating temperature and heating time of 22MnB5 are considered to be noise factors. It was known that the variation in the thickness of the intermetallic compound layer between the aluminum-coated layer and the substrate, which influences on the formation of nugget, was generated due to the difference of diffusion reaction according to heating conditions. From the results of spot weld experiment, the optimum weld condition was determined to be when the current, electrode force, and weld time were 8kA, 4kN, and 18 cycles, respectively. The result of a test performed to verify the optimized weld condition showed that the tensile strength of the weld joint was over 32kN, which is considerably higher than the required strength, i.e., 23kN.
Statement of problem. Soft lining materials, also referred to as tissue conditioning materials, tissue heating materials, relining materials, soft liners or tissue conditioners, were first introduced to dentistry by a plastic manufacturer in 1959. Since the introduction of the materials to the dental field, their material properties have been continually improved through the effort of many researchers. Soft lining materials have become widely accepted, particularly by prosthodontists, because of their numerous clinical advantages and ease of manipulation. Unfortunately, few reports have been issued upon the topic of increasing the bond strength between the base metal alloy used in cast denture bases and PMMA soft liner modified with 4-META, nor upon the pattern of debonding and material change in wet environment like a intra oral situation. Purpose. The purposes of this study were comparing the bond strength between base metal alloy used for the cast denture bases and PMMA soft liner modified with 4-META, and describing the pattern of debonding and material property change in wet environment like the intraoral situation. Material and Methods. This study consisted of four experiments: 1. The in vitro measurement of shear bond strength of the adhesive soft liner. 2. The in vitro measurement of shear bond strength of the adhesive soft liner after 2 weeks of aging. 3. A comparison of debonding patterns. 4. An evaluation the Relation time of modified soft liner. The soft liner used in this study was commercially available as Coe-soft (GC America.IL.,USA), which is provided in forms of powder and liquid. This is a PMMA soft liner commonly used in dental clinics. The metal primer used in this study was 4-META containing primer packed in Meta fast denture base resin (Sun Medical Co., Osaka, Japan). The specimens were formed in a single lap joint desist which is useful for evaluating the apparent shear bond strength of adhesively bonded metal plate by tensile loading. Using the $20{\times}20mm$ transparent grid, percent area of adhesive soft liner remaining on the shear area was calculated to classify the debonding patterns. To evaluate the change of the initial flow of the modified adhesive soft liner, the gelation time was measured with an oscillating rheometer (Haake RS150W/ TC50, Haake Co., Germany). It was a stress control and parallel plate type with the diameter of 35mm. Conclusion. Within the conditions and limitations of this study, the following conclusions were drawn as follows. 1. There was significant increase of bond strength in the 5% 4-META, 10% 4-META containing groups and in the primer coated groups versus the control group(P<0.05). 2. After 2 weeks of aging, no significant increase in bond strength was found except for the group containing 10% 4-META (P<0.05). 3. The gelation times of the modified soft liner were 9.3 minutes for the 5% 4-META containing liner and 11.5 minutes for the 10% 4-META liner. 4. The debonding patterns of the 4-META containing group after 2 weeks of aging were similar to those of immediaely after preparation, but the debonding pattern of the primer group showed more adhesive failure after 2 weeks of aging.
High quality and expedient processing repair methods are necessary to enhance the service life of bridge structures. Deterioration of concrete can occur as a result of structural cracks, corrosion of reinforcement, and freeze.thaw cycles. Cost effective methods with potential for field implementation are necessary to address the issue of the vulnerability of bridge structures and how to repair them. Most infrastructure related applications of fiber-reinforced plastics (FRPs) use traditional hand lay-up technology. The hand lay-up is tedious, labor-intensive and relies upon personnel skill level. An alternative to traditional hand lay-up of FRP for infrastructure applications is Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM). VARTM uses single sided molding technology to infuse resin over fabrics wrapping large structures, such as bridge girders and columns. There is no work currently available in understanding the interface developed, when VARTM processing is adopted to wrap fibers such as carbon and/or glass over concrete structures. This paper investigates the interface formed by carbon fiber processed on to a concrete surface using the VARTM technique. Various surface treatments, including sandblasting, were performed to study the pull-off tensile test to find a potential prepared surface. A single-lap shear test was used to study the bond strength of CFRP fabric/epoxy composite adhered to concrete. Carbon fiber wraps incorporating Sikadur HEX 103C and low viscosity epoxy resin Sikadur 300 were considered in VARTM processing of concrete specimens.

Adhesion property of epoxy adhesive was evaluated with different surface roughness of glass fiber reinforced composite (GFRC) and optimized condition of surface roughness was confirmed. Different sizes of alumina (Al2O3) particles were blasted to GFRC to control surface roughness of GFRC using sand blasting method. The surface roughness was measured and quantified via surface roughness tester. Contact angle was measured using four types of different solvents. Surface energies and work of adhesion between epoxy adhesive and GFRCs were calculated with different surface roughness of GFRC. Adhesion property between epoxy adhesive and GFRCs was evaluated using single lap shear test and adhesion property increased with surface roughness of GFRC. The fracture surface of GFRCs was observed to evaluate adhesion property. Finally, the optimized roughness condition of GFRCs was confirmed.

Isocyante terminated urethane prepolymers were synthesized by the reaction of 4,4'-dimethyl phenyldiisocyanate(MDI) and ester type polyols such as ethylene glycol/ butanediol adipate(EBA), neopentylglycol/butanediol adipate (NBA) and hexanediol adipate (HA) . All of the NCO-terminated urethane prepolymers are solid at room temperature, but they become mobile enough to be disposed onto a substrate upon heating about $80^{\circ}C$. Subsequently, they are solidified and cured through the reaction with moisture. Tensile behavior of the ore-thane hotmelt exhibits characteristic features depending on the type of polyol. The adhesive strength determined by single lap shear joint is higher in order of HA, NBA and EBA based ore thane hotmelt, which can be correlated with the magnitude of breaking energy of the cured films. The failure mode are cohesive for all cases and the adhesive strength increases as the test is performed faster. This indicates that the strength of the adhesive joint is primarily dependent upon the bulk properties of the adhesives.

The mounting performance of the GFRP(Glass fiber Reinforced Plastic) beam and the mechanical mounting of the steel bracket was studied to be mounted as a GFRP impact beam on the side door of the passenger car. Moreover, an open-hole tensile test was performed to evaluate breakage tendency based on GFRP stacking conditions. Furthermore, the tightening strength of rivets and bolts was compared using the single lap-shear tension test for the GFRP stacking pattern. Additionally, the GFRP beam and bracket mounting features were designed; moreover, the prototype and bracket were assembled. Additionally, the bracket mounting bending test and the door assembly static bending test were performed to verify the stability of the bracket mounting. In the bracket fastening bending test, no breakage occurred in the connection part between the GFRP beam and the bracket, and it showed 67% (24.4 kN) improved performance compared to steel. In the static bending test of the door assembly, the initial average reaction force increased by 25% compared to the steel, and the performance of all FMVSS-214 regulations was satisfied. The replacement of GFRP impact beams resulted in a 30% weight reduction
