The effect of the vertical excitation on horizontal response of structures

  • It is usual in design and assessment of structures to isolate the effects of vertical and horizontal excitations by ignoring their coupling effects. In this situation, total structural response is obtained by employing the well-known combination rules whereby independent assumed response components of earthquakes are combined. In fact, the effects of the simultaneity of the ground motion components are ignored. In this paper, the effect of vertical excitation on horizontal response of structures, the coupling of vertical and horizontal responses, has been evaluated. A computer program is prepared to perform nonlinear dynamic analysis based on the derived governing equations of coupled motions. In the case of simultaneous excitation the results show significant increases in spectral displacement in some periods of vibration in comparison to only horizontally excited systems. Moreover, whenever ratio of the vertical peak ground acceleration to horizontal one become larger, the significant increase in horizontal spectral displacements are observed.

지적장애아동의 기능성 게임 참여에 따른 행동변화 및 운동수행능력 (Behavior and Motor Skill of Children with Intellectual Disabilities Participating Functional Games)

  • 본 연구는 지적장애아동들이 가상현실을 기반으로 한 기능성 게임에 참여하는 과정에서 행동 및 운동수행능력에 어떠한 변화가 보이는지 분석하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 지적장애아동 5명을 대상으로 주 2회, 16주간 프로그램을 진행하였다. 그 결과 가상현실을 기반으로 한 기능성 게임에 참여한 지적장애아동은 주의집중, 안정된 움직임, 자신감있는 동작 등과 같은 행동의 변화를 보였으며, 운동수행능력의 경우 하위영역 - 정적 협응, 손동작 협응, 일반동작 협응, 운동속도, 동시적 자발동작, 단일 동작 수행능력- 모두에서 긍정적 변화를 나타냈다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 가상현실을 기반으로 한 기능성 게임을 체계적이고 규칙적으로 적용하게 되면 지적장애인의 행동변화와 운동수행능력에 긍정적 효과를 가져올 수 있을 것이다.

유한수심(有限水深)의 해상(海上)에서 규칙파(規則波)에 놓인 구(球)의 운동특성(運動特性) (On the Motion Characteristics of a Freely-Floating Sphere in a Water of Finite Depth)

  • Herein the motion of a freely-floating sphere in a water of finite depth is analysed within the framework of a linear potential theory. A velocity potential describing fluid motion is generated by distributing pulsating sources and dipoles on the immersed surface of the sphere, without introducing an inner flow model. The potential becomes the solution of an integral equation of Fredholm's second type. In the light of the vertical axisymmetry of the flow, surface integrals reduce to line integrals, which are approximated by summation of the products of the integrand and the length of segments along the contour. Following this computational scheme the diffraction potential and the radiation potential are determined from the same algorithm of solving a set of simultaneous linear equations. Upon knowing values of the potentials hydrodynamic forces such as added mass, hydrodynamic damping and wave exciting forces are evaluated by the integrating pressure over the immersed surface of the sphere. It is found in the case of finite water depth that the hydrodynamic forces are much different from the corresponding ones in deep water. Accordingly motion response of the sphere in a water of finite depth displays a particular behavior both in a amplitude and phase.

국내 소형천문대 기선을 이용한 근접 소행성 지심시차 측정 (Geocentric parallax measurements of Near-Earth Asteroid using Baselines with domestic small-size observatories)

  • 국내 교육용 천문대 네 곳과의 협력으로 세 개의 기선을 구축 및 동시 관측을 수행하여, 지구근접천체 Amor족 소행성인 1036 Ganymed의 지심시차와 거리, 운동 상태를 알아보았다. 관측은 2011년 9월에서 11월 동안, 동시 관측이 가능한 날에 이루어졌다. 1036 Ganymed의 거리는 9월 26일 0.40 AU, 10월 11일 0.40 AU, 10월 25일 0.34 AU 이었고, 각각은 미국 제트추진연구소가 제시하는 측정거리와 비교한 결과 오차 범위내의 값이었다. 1036 Ganymed는 관측기간 동안 순행 운동을 보였고, 접선 각속력은 $0.04-0.05^{{\prime}{\prime}}\;sec^{-1}$로 측정되었다. 본 연구를 통해 국내에 있는 교육용 천문대들의 동시 관측으로 0.4 AU 부근의 소행성에 대해 약 5% 정도의 오차 범위를 가지는 거리 측정치를 얻을 수 있음을 보였다. 이로부터, 교육용 천문대 간의 네트워크를 기반으로 한 협력 관측 수행이 이루어지고 새로운 연구연계 교육프로그램의 유형으로 활용 될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • 5 축 공작기계에서 회전축을 포함한 동시 구동에 대한 볼바 측정용 원호 경로 생성 및 NC 데이터 작성은 CAM 소프트웨어를 사용할 경우 공작기계의 구조, 사용되는 동시 구동축 종류 및 볼바 셋업 조건 등 다양한 시스템 구조와 변경된 측정 환경에 따라 매번 많은 시간과 노력을 수반해야 한다. 본 연구는 소프트웨어의 의존 없이 다양한 볼바 측정 조건에서도 항상 사용할 수 있는 두 축 동시 구동을 통한 원호 경로를 생성하는 기법을 소개하며 임의의 공작기계의 구조 및 동시 구동축의 종류, 볼바 셋업조건 등을 고려한다. 제안한 원호 생성 기술을 이용하여 세 가지의 사례에 대한 원호 경로 생성용 수학식을 제시하며 더불어 볼바 부품간 물리적 간섭을 방지하기 위한 측정 가능성 사전 검사 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 기법의 타당성은 두 개의 회전축을 이용한 볼바 측정 실험을 통해서 검증한다.

Convergence of Score process in the Cox Proportional Hazards Model

  • We study the asymptotic behavior of the maximum partial likelihood estimator in the Cox proportional hazards model in the presence of nuisance parameters when the entry of patients is staggered. When entry of patients is simultaneous and there is only one regression parameter in the Cox model, the efficient score process of the partial likelihood is martingale and converges weakly to a time-chnaged Brownian motion. Our problem is to get a similar result in the presence of nuisance parameters when entry of patient is staggered.

A Feedback Linearization Control of Container Cranes: Varying Rope Length

  • In this paper, a nonlinear anti-sway controller for container cranes with load hoisting is investigated. The considered container crane involves a planar motion in conjunction with a hoisting motion. The control inputs are two (trolley and hoisting forces), whereas the variables to be controlled are three (trolley position, hoisting rope length, and sway angle). A novel feedback linearization control law provides a simultaneous trolley-position regulation, sway suppression, and load hoisting control. The performance of the closed loop system is shown to be satisfactory in the presence of disturbances at the payload and rope length variations. The advantage of the proposed control law lies in the full incorporation of the nonlinear dynamics by partial feedback linearization. The uniform asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is assured irrespective of variations of the rope length. Simulation and experimental results are compared and discussed.

천정 크레인의 모델링 및 위치제어 (The Modelling and Position Control of Overhead Cranes)

  • Overhead cranes consist of trolley, girder, rope, objects, trolley motor, girder motor, and hoist motor. If objects are regarded as mass point, and the acceleration of hoisting motion for objects is neglected, analytical model of overhead cranes becomes a nonlinear model because the length of a rope changes. Equations of motion this model is derived of simultaneous differential equations fur motors and object. Positions of the model are controlled by optimal inputs which obtain from a nonlinear optimal control method. From the results of computer simulation, even if initial states of objects suing, it is founded that position of overhead cranes is controlled, and that swing of objects is suppressed.

  • Freeze drying under vacuum condition is a complex process that involves simultaneous heat and mass transfer, sublimation of ice, and motion of sublimation front. Proper treatment of the motion of sublimation interface is crucial for an accurate prediction of the freeze drying process. Based on the enthalpy formulation that has been successfully used in liquid/solid phase change problems. a fixed grid method. streamlined for the freeze drying analysis. was developed in this study. The accuracy of the fixed grid method was checked by solving a one-dimensional tray freeze drying and a two-dimensional vial freeze drying problem and then comparing the results with those by the moving grid method. Finally. the freeze drying characteristics of two-dimensional slab and axis-symmetric cylinder was investigated using the fixed grid method.

  • This paper presents a disk-type capacitive sensor for simultaneous measurement of five-dimensional motions of a target. The sensor can be manufactured with a printed circuit board (PCB) such that the sensor can be integrated with its electronics in a single PCB board, whereby the manufacturing costs is considerably reduced. The sensor is optimally designed through an error analysis of possible mechanical errors. Furthermore, the sensor can correct the horizontal motion measurement errors due to the sensor installation tilting error. A proto-type PCB sensor, electronics and a test rig were built, and the effectiveness of the developed sensor was proved through experiments.
