스위스 Grimsel Test Site에서 수행된 FEBEX 현장시험에 대한 수치해석적 연구 (Numerical analysis of FEBEX at Grimsel Test Site in Switzerland)

  • 벤토나이트 완충재에서의 열-수리-역학적 복합거동을 예측하기 위해 TOUGH2-MP/FLAC3D 시뮬레이터를 기반으로 개발된 Barcelona basic 모델(BBM) 해석모듈의 현장 적용성을 검토하고자 국제공동연구 DECOVALEX-2019 Task D에 참여하여 스위스 Grimsel Test Site의 현장시험(full-scale engineered barriers experiment, FEBEX) 모델링을 수행하고 현장시험에서 계측된 히터 파워, 온도, 상대습도, 응력, 포화도, 함수율 그리고 건조밀도를 계산 값과 비교하였다. 수치해석을 이용하여 시간에 따른 히터 파워와 온도 변화는 전반적으로 잘 재현되었지만, 히터 1과 히터 2에서의 파워 차이를 계산할 수는 없었으며 이를 개선하기 위해서는 FEBEX 터널 주변에 분포하는 황반암과 시험장치 및 벤토나이트 블록의 설치 공정을 반영할 필요가 있을 것으로 판단된다. 상대습도 변화와 분포 역시 전반적으로 잘 모사되었으나, 수치해석에서 히터 부근에서의 재포화과정이 상대적으로 빠르게 진행된 것으로 보아 수리모델에 대한 일부 수정이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 현장시험에서는 벤토나이트 완충재와 암반 사이에 틈이 존재하지만 수치해석에서는 완벽하게 접촉하고 있는 것으로 가정하였기 때문에 운영 초기의 응력 변화는 다소 차이를 보였지만, 전반적으로 유사한 경향을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 해체 이후 측정한 포화도, 함수율, 그리고 건조밀도의 분포 역시 전반적으로 잘 재현되었지만, 건조밀도가 터널 중심과 히터부근에서 조금 크게 계산되어 벤토나이트 블록의 투수계수가 상대적으로 작은 값으로 반영되어 포화도와 함수율이 작게 계산된 것으로 보이며, 이를 개선하기 위해서는 건조밀도에 따른 투수계수 모델에 일부 수정이 필요할 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 수치모델을 수정하고 추가적인 연구를 수행한다면, 보다 나은 해석 결과와 벤토나이트 완충재에서의 THM 복합거동을 좀 더 현실적으로 예측할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

두경부 양성자 치료계획 시 MVCT를 이용한 Metal Volume 평가 및 양성자 선량분포 평가 (Evaluation of Metal Volume and Proton Dose Distribution Using MVCT for Head and Neck Proton Treatment Plan)

  • 목 적: 두경부 방사선 치료 시 Dental Implant에 의한 Metal Artifact로 인해 보철물의 크기, 모양 및 Volume이 달라지고 이로 인해 타겟 및 주변 정상조직에 대한 방사선치료계획의 정확성이 떨어진다. 본 연구는 치아크기를 재현한 Metal을 KVCT, SMART-MAR CT, MVCT를 통해 영상을 획득 하여 Volume을 평가하고 양성자 치료계획에 적용시켜 선량분포의 차이를 분석해 보고자 한다. 대상 및 방법: 치과에서 치료하는 방법을 고려하여 인레이, 크라운, 브릿지와 비슷한 크기의 A보철물($0.5{\times}0.5{\times}0.5cm$), B보철물($1{\times}1{\times}1cm$), C보철물($1{\times}2{\times}1cm$)을 저용융점납합금(Cerrobend, $9.64g/cm^3$) 사용하여 제작하였다. In House Head & Neck Phantom 안에 보철물를 위치시키고 CT Simulator(Discovery CT 590RT, GE, USA)를 이용해 Slice thickness 1.25 mm로 KVCT 영상과 SMART-MAR 영상을 획득하였다. MVCT 영상은 $RADIXACT^{(R)}$ Series(Accuray $Pricision^{(R)}$, USA)을 이용해 동일한 방법으로 획득하였다. MVCT, SMART-MAR CT, KVCT를 통해 획득한 보철물의 형상을 전산화 치료계획장비 Pinnacle(Ver 9.10, Philips, Palo Alto, USA)의 Autocontour Thresholds Raw Values를 통해 X, Y, Z축의 크기 및 Volume을 비교하였다. 양성자 치료계획은 위의 실험에서 얻은 보철물B($1{\times}1{\times}1cm$)의 각 CT별 치아 Contour를 KVCT 상에 fusion하여 양성자 치료계획(Ray station 5.1, RaySearch, USA)을 세우고 선량의 차이를 비교 평가하였다. 결 과: 실측 사이즈 대비 A보철물(MVCT : 1.0배, SMART-MAR CT : 1.84배, KVCT : 1.92배), B보철물(MVCT : 1.02배, SMART-MAR CT : 1.47배, KVCT : 1.82배), C보철물(MVCT : 1.0배, SMART-MAR CT : 1.46배, KVCT : 1.66배)로 각 크기의 보철물에서 MVCT가 가장 실제 Volume과 유사하게 측정되었다. 양성자 치료계획에서 B보철물의 Volume을 각각 적용하여 측정한 결과 $D_{99\%}$ volume의 선량이 기준 3082 CcGE 대비 MVCT:3094 CcGE, SMART-MAR CT:2902 CcGE, KVCT:2880 CcGE로 측정되었다. 결 론: 전체적인 Volume과 X축 Z축의 크기는 MVCT에서 실제 크기와 가장 일치했고 superior-Inferior방향인 Y축은 CT에 따라 차이 없이 길이가 일정했다. 두경부 양성자 치료 시 보철물의 크기, 모양 및 Volume이 비슷한 MVCT에서 가장 실제 값과 비슷한 선량분포를 보였고 MVCT를 이용한 보철물의 contour를 KVCT에 fusion하여 양성자치료계획에 적용 시 매우 유용할 것으로 사료된다.

  • 목 적: 본 연구에서는 가임기 여성의 유방암 방사선 치료 시 난소 선량에 대해 실험을 통하여 평가해보고자 한다. 치료기법에 따른 치료계획시스템에서 계산된 선량과 열형광선량계를 이용한 측정선량을 비교·분석하여 난소 선량을 평가하고 납(Pb) 앞치마의 사용유무에 따른 선량 분석을 통해 임상에서의 유용성을 알아보고자 한다. 대상 및 방법: 측정에는 Rando humanoid phantom을 이용하였고, 치료기법으로는 쐐기필터치료기법, 3차원 입체조형치료, 세기변조방사선치료를 사용하였다. CT simulator를 이용하여 얻은 Rando humanoid phantom 3D 영상의 우측 유방에 처방선량의 95%가 전달될 수 있도록 치료계획을 세웠고, TLD를 Rando hunmanoid phantom의 가상 표적의 표면 및 심부에 삽입하고 방사선을 조사하였다. 측정위치는 치료 중심점과 Rando humanoid phantom의 정중앙을 중심으로 반대쪽 유방으로 2cm 이동한 지점과 치료 중심축 및 하방으로 우측 유방의 경계면에서 5cm, 10cm, 12.5cm, 15cm, 17.5cm, 20cm, 우측 난소 위치의 표면과 중심점을 포함하여 총 9개 지점에서 측정하였다. 치료계획시스템의 선량 비교에서는 쐐기필터치료기법 2가지와 3차원 입체조형치료, 세기변조방사선치료 등 총 4개의 치료 계획을 수립하여 비교하였다. 그리고 TLD를 이용한 측정값 비교는 세기변조방사선치료와 쐐기필터를 이용한 치료를 비교하였고, 납 앞치마의 사용유무에 따라서 세기변조방사선치료의 선량차이를 측정하여 비교·분석하였다. 측정값은 각 포인트마다 3개의 TLD값 평균을 내고 TLD 교정값을 이용하여 환산하였으며 이를 Point dose mean값으로 계산하였다. 치료계획값과 실제 측정값을 비교하기 위해 각 지점마다 절대선량값을 측정하여 %Diff 값으로 계산하였다. 결 과: 치료 중심점인 Point A에서는 치료계획시스템에서 최대 201.7cGy가 나왔고, 실제 TLD 측정값은 최대 200.6cGy가 나왔다. 모든 치료계획시스템에서 유방 경계면으로부터 하방으로 17.5cm 떨어진 지점인 Point G 부터는 0cGy로 계산이 되었다. 실제 TLD 측정 결과 Point G에서는 최대 2.6cGy가 나왔고, 난소선량인 Point J에서는 최대 0.9cGy로 나타났으며 %Diff값은 0.3%~1.3%였다. 납 앞치마의 사용유무에 따른 선량 차이는 최대 2.1cGy에서 최소 0.1cGy로 나타났으며 %Diff값은 0.1%~1.1%였다. 결 론: 치료계획시스템에서 3가지 치료계획에 따른 선량차이는 최저 0.85%에서 최고 2.45%로 큰 격차를 보이지 않았다. 난소에서 Rando humanoid phantom의 치료계획과 실제 측정한 선량차이는 0.9% 이내로 나타났으나 실제 측정에서 조금 더 높게 측정되었다. 이는 치료계획시스템에서 산란선의 영향을 정확하게 반영하지 못하였고, 실제 측정에서는 TLD를 삽입한 상태로 CBCT를 촬영한 선량과 산란선량이 반영된 것으로 사료된다. 납 앞치마의 유무에 따른 선량측정에서 납 앞치마를 사용했을 경우에 치료범위에서 가까운 거리일수록 차폐의 효과가 있었으며, 치료범위에서 15cm 이상 거리가 있는 경우에는 거의 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 임상적으로 방사선 치료 중에는 임신이나 인공수정을 하기에는 적절하지 않지만, 치료 중 난소에 조사된 선량은 방사선 치료 후 가임기 여성의 생식 기능에 크게 영향을 주지 않을 것으로 생각된다. 하지만 가임 여성의 경우에는 지속적인 불안감을 가지고 있으므로 이번 결과를 통한 데이터를 제시함으로써 심리적인 안정을 도모할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

경사지 토양유실 방지를 위한 PAM(Polyacrylamide) 시제품의 효율성 비교평가: 실내 인공강우 실험 (Applicability of PAM(Polyacrylamide) in Soil Erosion Prevention: Rainfall Simulation Experiments)

  • 본 연구는 경사지의 토양유실 방지를 위한 관리방안의 하나로 실내 인공강우 장치를 이용하여 PAM에 의한 토양유실 저감 정도와 PAM의 적용가능성을 평가하였다. 인공 시험포의 경사도를 10%와 20%로 설정하고 국내외에서 시판되고 있는 7종류의 PAM을 10 kg $ha^{-1}$과 40 kg $ha^{-1}$ 수준으로 처리한 뒤 PAM을 처리하지 않은 대조구와 비교 평가하였다. PAM(10 kg $ha^{-1}$) 처리는 10%와 20% 경사도의 시험구에서 각각 평균 40%와 21%의 토양유실량 저감효과를 나타냈으며, PAM을 40 kg $ha^{-1}$ 처리한 경우 10%와 20% 경사도의 시험구에서 각각 평균 88%와 85%의 토양유실량 저감효율을 나타냈다. PAM(10 kg $ha^{-1}$) 처리시 10%와 20% 경사지에서 미사와 점토의 유실량은 각각 43% 및 13%로 저감되었고 PAM 처리량의 증가(40 kg $ha^{-1}$)는 경사도 변화에 따라 미사와 점토의 유실을 각각 89 및 86% 저감하였다. PAM 처리에 따른 토양유실량 저감효과는 결과적으로 탁수 발생도 상당히 감소하였는데 주 요인은 미사나 점토와 같은 미립광물과 관련된 것으로 조사되었다. 이상의 결과로부터 PAM 처리는 경사지에서의 토양유실 및 탁도 저감에 우수한 효과가 있는 것으로 판단된다.

동시과제가 운전 수행 능력에 미치는 영향 -차량 통제 및 동작신호 해석을 중심으로- (Effects of Secondary Task on Driving Performance -Control of Vehicle and Analysis of Motion signal-)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 차량 통제 변인과 동작의 부드러움 변인을 이용하여 동시 과제 수행이 운전 수행 능력에 미치는 영향을 정량적으로 제시하는 것이다. 1~2년의 운전 경력을 가진 피험자 20명이 실험에 참여하였다. 피험자는 동작분석을 위해 상지(shoulder, elbow, wrist) 및 하지(knee, ankle, toe)에 9개의 마커를 부착한 후, 운전 시뮬레이터를 이용하여 80km/hr로 주행하는 선행 차량과 30m의 간격을 유지하며 직선 주행하도록 하였다. 동시과제는 문자 메시지 보내기와 네비게이션 검색으로 선정하였다. 실험 시간은 2분으로 운전 시작 후 1분은 운전만을, 다음 1분은 운전과 동시과제를 함께 실시하도록 하였고, 각각 운전구간과 동시과제구간으로 정의하였다. 차간거리(Anterior-Posterior Coefficient of Variation, APCV) 및 차선이격거리의 분산계수(Medial-Lateral Coefficient of variation, MLCV)와 저크비용함수(Jerk-cost function, JC)를 이용하여 운전 수행 능력을 평가하였다. APCV는 운전구간에 비해 운전 중 네비게이션 검색 시 222.1% 증가하였다. MLCV는 문자 메시지 전송 과제를 수행할 경우, 318.2%, 네비게이션 검색 과제를 수행할 경우 309.4%가 증가하였다. JC는 운전구간에 비해 동시과제 수행 시, 팔꿈치, 무릎, 발목, 발가락에서 유의하게 증가하였고, 하지마커 전체의 평균값은 문자과제 수행 시 218.2%, 네비게이션 과제 수행 시 294.7%가 증가하였다. 운전 중 동시과제의 수행은 JC를 증가시켜 운전자의 동작의 부드러움을 감소시키고, APCV와 MLCV를 증가시켜 차량의 횡적 종적 통제를 어렵게 한다고 결론 내릴 수 있다.

상용모사기를 이용한 로토석탄의 분할유동층 가스화기 가스화 특성 모사 (The Computer-Aided Simulation Study on the Gasification Characteristics of the Roto Coal in the Partitioned Fluidized-Bed Gasifier)

  • 본 연구에서는 상용모사기를 이용하여 분할유동층 가스화기에서 로토석탄의 가스화 특성 모사를 수행하였다. 분할 유동층 가스화기는 가스화영역에서 일어나는 연소반응과 가스화반응(발열반응과 흡열반응)을 각각 다른 영역에서 일어날 수 있도록 반응기 내부를 분할한 가스화기이다. 분할유동층 가스화기의 주요 개념은 가스화에 요구되는 열을 연소영역에서 생성된 열을 이용하여 공급하는 것으로 가스화기 내부에서의 부분 연소를 억제하고, 격벽을 통한 열전달과 열매체의 이동을 통해 공급하는 것이다. 분할유동층 가스화기 모델은 열분해, 촤 가스화, 타르/오일 가스화, 촤 연소반응으로 4개의 영역을 가지도록 구현하였다. 열분해의 경우, 대상 석탄을 반응온도, 반응가스, 석탄주입량을 변화시켜 실험을 수행하여 실험데이터로부터 correlation 모델을 작성하였다. 가스화는 Gibbs free energy를 최소화하는 모델을 이용하고 촤 연소영역은 combustion 모델을 이용하였다. 분할유동층 가스화기 모사결과를 비교하기 위해 우선 단일영역 가스화기 모사를 수행하였다. 단일영역 가스화기의 경우 석탄열분해 반응기와 석탄가스화 반응기 두 개로 구성되며 반응모델은 분할유동층 가스화기와 일치한다. 분할유동층 가스화기 모사 결과, 냉가스효율은 84.4%로 단일영역 가스화기와 유사한 결과를 얻었으며 합성가스의 조성은 $H_2$$CH_4$이 다소 증가하고 CO와 $CO_2$가 다소 감소한 것을 확인하였다. 모델 검증을 위해 10건의 단일영역 가스화 실험에 대하여 모사를 수행하였다. 모사를 통해 얻어진 합성가스의 조성은 CO, $CO_2$, $CH_4$의 경우 실험결과와 모사결과가 거의 일치하는 반면 $H_2$의 경우 모사결과가 실험값과 비교하여 다소 높은 값을 갖는 것을 확인하였으나 경향은 실험값과 유사함을 확인하였다. 탄소전환율의 경우, 모델결과가 실험값과 비교하여 높은 전환율을 보이는 것을 알 수 있으며 이는 모사에 사용된 가스화 모델이 평형반응기로 반응기에서의 체류시간과 접촉시간이 실제 실험과 차이가 있기 때문으로 파악된다.

Hardware Approach to Fuzzy Inference―ASIC and RISC―

  • This talk presents the overview of the author's research and development activities on fuzzy inference hardware. We involved it with two distinct approaches. The first approach is to use application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) technology. The fuzzy inference method is directly implemented in silicon. The second approach, which is in its preliminary stage, is to use more conventional microprocessor architecture. Here, we use a quantitative technique used by designer of reduced instruction set computer (RISC) to modify an architecture of a microprocessor. In the ASIC approach, we implemented the most widely used fuzzy inference mechanism directly on silicon. The mechanism is beaded on a max-min compositional rule of inference, and Mandami's method of fuzzy implication. The two VLSI fuzzy inference chips are designed, fabricated, and fully tested. Both used a full-custom CMOS technology. The second and more claborate chip was designed at the University of North Carolina(U C) in cooperation with MCNC. Both VLSI chips had muliple datapaths for rule digital fuzzy inference chips had multiple datapaths for rule evaluation, and they executed multiple fuzzy if-then rules in parallel. The AT & T chip is the first digital fuzzy inference chip in the world. It ran with a 20 MHz clock cycle and achieved an approximately 80.000 Fuzzy Logical inferences Per Second (FLIPS). It stored and executed 16 fuzzy if-then rules. Since it was designed as a proof of concept prototype chip, it had minimal amount of peripheral logic for system integration. UNC/MCNC chip consists of 688,131 transistors of which 476,160 are used for RAM memory. It ran with a 10 MHz clock cycle. The chip has a 3-staged pipeline and initiates a computation of new inference every 64 cycle. This chip achieved an approximately 160,000 FLIPS. The new architecture have the following important improvements from the AT & T chip: Programmable rule set memory (RAM). On-chip fuzzification operation by a table lookup method. On-chip defuzzification operation by a centroid method. Reconfigurable architecture for processing two rule formats. RAM/datapath redundancy for higher yield It can store and execute 51 if-then rule of the following format: IF A and B and C and D Then Do E, and Then Do F. With this format, the chip takes four inputs and produces two outputs. By software reconfiguration, it can store and execute 102 if-then rules of the following simpler format using the same datapath: IF A and B Then Do E. With this format the chip takes two inputs and produces one outputs. We have built two VME-bus board systems based on this chip for Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The board is now installed in a robot at ORNL. Researchers uses this board for experiment in autonomous robot navigation. The Fuzzy Logic system board places the Fuzzy chip into a VMEbus environment. High level C language functions hide the operational details of the board from the applications programme . The programmer treats rule memories and fuzzification function memories as local structures passed as parameters to the C functions. ASIC fuzzy inference hardware is extremely fast, but they are limited in generality. Many aspects of the design are limited or fixed. We have proposed to designing a are limited or fixed. We have proposed to designing a fuzzy information processor as an application specific processor using a quantitative approach. The quantitative approach was developed by RISC designers. In effect, we are interested in evaluating the effectiveness of a specialized RISC processor for fuzzy information processing. As the first step, we measured the possible speed-up of a fuzzy inference program based on if-then rules by an introduction of specialized instructions, i.e., min and max instructions. The minimum and maximum operations are heavily used in fuzzy logic applications as fuzzy intersection and union. We performed measurements using a MIPS R3000 as a base micropro essor. The initial result is encouraging. We can achieve as high as a 2.5 increase in inference speed if the R3000 had min and max instructions. Also, they are useful for speeding up other fuzzy operations such as bounded product and bounded sum. The embedded processor's main task is to control some device or process. It usually runs a single or a embedded processer to create an embedded processor for fuzzy control is very effective. Table I shows the measured speed of the inference by a MIPS R3000 microprocessor, a fictitious MIPS R3000 microprocessor with min and max instructions, and a UNC/MCNC ASIC fuzzy inference chip. The software that used on microprocessors is a simulator of the ASIC chip. The first row is the computation time in seconds of 6000 inferences using 51 rules where each fuzzy set is represented by an array of 64 elements. The second row is the time required to perform a single inference. The last row is the fuzzy logical inferences per second (FLIPS) measured for ach device. There is a large gap in run time between the ASIC and software approaches even if we resort to a specialized fuzzy microprocessor. As for design time and cost, these two approaches represent two extremes. An ASIC approach is extremely expensive. It is, therefore, an important research topic to design a specialized computing architecture for fuzzy applications that falls between these two extremes both in run time and design time/cost.   • 본 논문에서는 국제공동연구 DECOVALEX-2019 프로젝트의 일환으로 수행된 Task B Benchmark Model Test(BMT)의 연구 결과를 소개하였다. Task B는 'Fault slip modelling'을 연구주제로 하며, 유체의 주입으로 인해 발생하는 단층의 재활성과 수리역학적 연계거동을 예측할 수 있는 해석기법을 개발하는 데에 목적이 있다. BMT 시나리오 해석은 각 참가팀들의 수치모델이 단층의 수리역학적 연동거동을 적절히 모사할 수 있는지 교차검증함으로써 각 해석코드의 완성도를 높이기 위하여 수행되었으며, 주입압 적용 조건, 단층 물성, 수리역학적 연동해석 조건 등에 따라 7개의 해석 모델로 이루어져 있다. 본 연구에서는 TOUGH-FLAC 연동해석 기법을 이용하여, 역학적 변형으로 야기되는 단층의 수리적 물성 변화와 간극의 기하학적 변화를 동시에 반영할 수 있는 수리역학적 커플링 모듈을 개발하였다. BMT 시나리오 해석을 위하여 Task B 1단계(Step 1) 연구에서 개발된 수치모델을 일부 수정하였고, 단층의 변형에 따른 압축률과 투수계수, 단층의 해석 메쉬의 변화가 해석에 반영될 수 있도록 하였다. 단층의 투수량계수와 저류계수가 단층 내 압력 분포, 주입수량, 변위, 응력 등 수리역학적 거동에 미치는 영향을 검토하였으며, 수정된 수치모델을 기수행된 1단계 연구에 적용하여 해석결과를 업데이트하였다. 해석 결과, 본 연구에서 개발한 해석기법이 물 주입으로 인한 단층의 거동을 합리적인 수준에서 재현할 수 있는 것으로 판단할 수 있었다. 본 연구의 해석모델은 Task B에 참여하는 국외 연구팀들과의 의견 교류와 워크숍을 통해 지속적으로 개선하는 한편, 향후 연구의 현장시험에 적용하여 타당성을 검증할 예정이다.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. The system connected to our hospital information system via application program interface (API), so the information related to patient and request details is automatically transmitted to our computer. Our system interfaced with fwd complete blood count analyzers(Sysmex NE-8000 and Coulter STKS) for unidirectional data tansmission from analyzer to computer. Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Fo and explosion depth (from the surface to the point of maximun temperature) are increased when Nk and Bi are increased.To find out the minimum laser power for explosive evaporative removal process, steady state analysis has been also made. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases.
