  • Studies of Internet algorithms or policies require experiments on the real large-scale networks. But practical problems with large real networks make them difficult. Instead many researchers use simulations on the Internet topology models. So, It is Important that study about topology model that reflect characteristic of the internet exactly. We propose new topology model which reflect of hierarchical network and addition, removal of nodes and accompanied change of topologies. In the modeling scheme for network generation, we applied DEVS formalism and analyzed the topologies generated by our algorithms.

Attributed AND-OR Graph for Synthesis of Superscalar Processor Simulator (슈퍼스칼라 프로세서 시뮬레이터의 생성을 위한 Attributed AND-OR 그래프)

  • This paper proposes the simulator synthesis scheme which is based on the exploration of the total design space in attributed AND-OR graph. Attributed AND-OR graph is a systematic design space representation formalism which enables to represent all the design space by decomposition rule and specialization rule. In addition, attributes attached to the design entity provides flexible modeling. Based on this design space representation scheme, a pruning algorithm which can transform the total design space into sub-design space that satisfies the user requirements is given. We have shown the effectiveness of our framework by (ⅰ) constructing the design space of superscalar processor in attributed AND-OR graph (ⅱ) pruning it to obtain the ARM9 processor architecture. (ⅲ) modeling the components of the architecture and (ⅳ) simulating the ARM9 model.

Double Gate MOSFET Modeling Based on Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System for Nanoscale Circuit Simulation

  • As the conventional silicon metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) approaches its scaling limits, quantum mechanical effects are expected to become more and more important. Accurate quantum transport simulators are required to explore the essential device physics as a design aid. However, because of the complexity of the analysis, it has been necessary to simulate the quantum mechanical model with high speed and accuracy. In this paper, the modeling of double gate MOSFET based on an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is presented. The ANFIS model reduces the computational time while keeping the accuracy of physics-based models, like non-equilibrium Green's function formalism. Finally, we import the ANFIS model into the circuit simulator software as a subcircuit. The results show that the compact model based on ANFIS is an efficient tool for the simulation of nanoscale circuits.

  • As inter-network traffics grows rapidly, the router systems as a network component becomes to be capable of not only wire-speed packet processing but also plentiful programmability for quality services. A network processor technology is widely used to achieve such capabilities in the high-end router. Although providing two such capabilities, the network processor can't support a deep packet processing at nominal wire-speed. Considering QoS may result in performance degradation of processing packet. In order to achieve foster processing, one chipset of network processor is occasionally not enough. Using more than one urges to consider a problem that is, for instance, an out-of-order delivery of packets. This problem can be serious in some applications such as voice over IP and video services, which assume that packets arrive in order. It is required to develop an effective packet processing mechanism leer using more than one network processors in parallel in one linecard unit of the router system. Simulation analysis is also needed for verifying the mechanism. We propose the packet processing mechanism consisting of more than two NPs in parallel. In this mechanism, we use a load-balancing algorithm that distributes the packet traffic load evenly and keeps the sequence, and then verify the algorithm with simulation analysis. As a simulation tool, we use DEVSim++, which is a DEVS formalism-based hierarchical discrete-event simulation environment developed by KAIST. In this paper, we are going to show not only applicability of the DEVS formalism to hardware modeling and simulation but also predictability of performance of the load balancer when implemented with FPGA.

An Operation Simulation of MAGLEV using DEVS Formalism Considering Traffic Wave (승객 유동을 고려한 DEVS 기반 자기부상열차 운행 시뮬레이션)

  • The MAGLEV (Magnetically Levitated Vehicle) system, which is under commercialization as a new transportation system in Korea, is operated by means of unmanned automatic control system. Therefore the plan of train operation should be carefully established and validated in advance. In general, when making the train operation plan, the statistically predicted traffic data is used. However, traffic wave can occur when real train service is operated, and the demand-driven simulation technology is required to review train operation plans and service qualities considering traffic wave. This paper presents a method and model to simulate the MAGLEV's operation considering continuous demand changes. For this purpose, we employed the discrete event model which is suitable for modeling the behavior of railway passenger transportation, and modeled the system hierarchically using DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) formalism. In addition, through the implementation and experiment using DEVSim++ simulation environment, we tested the feasibility of the proposed model and it is also verified that our demand-driven simulation technology could be used for the prior review of the train operation plans and strategies.

Discrete event simulation of Maglev transport considering traffic waves

  • A magnetically levitated vehicle (Maglev) system is under commercialization as a new transportation system in Korea. The Maglev is operated by an unmanned automatic control system. Therefore, the plan of train operation should be carefully established and validated in advance. In general, when making a train operation plan, statistically predicted traffic data is used. However, a traffic wave often occurs in real train service, and demand-driven simulation technology is required to review a train operation plan and service quality considering traffic waves. We propose a method and model to simulate Maglev operation considering continuous demand changes.   • In the event of a maritime accident, search plans have traditionally been planned using experiential methods. However, these approaches cannot guarantee safety when the scale of a maritime accident increases. Therefore, this study proposes a model utilizing discrete event simulation (DES) to predict the diving time for compartment searches of a ship located on the seabed. The discrete event simulation model was created by applying the DEVS formalism. The M/V Sewol sinking was used as an example to simulate how to effectively navigate compartments of different sizes. The simulation results showed the optimal dive time with the number of decompression chambers needed to navigate the compartment as a variable. Based on this, we propose a methodology for efficient navigation planning while ensuring diver safety.

Framework and Tools for Rapid M&S Component Development and Reusability (M&S 컴포넌트의 신속 개발과 재사용을 위한 프레임워크 및 도구 개발)

  • Modeling and simulation technology is being used in various fields. Especially in the field of military, Simulation-Based Acquisition (SBA) is recognized as a essential policy. To effectively carry out SBA, modeling and simulation techniques should be applied in the whole life-cycle for the weapon system development, and the framework and tools which can help the rapid component development and reusability are needed. In this research, we use the simulation framework based on modeling formalism for enhancement of reusability and a GUI-based modeling environment for rapid M&S component development. The Proposed framework can act as plug-in components on the basis of XML-based object model, so that the flexible design is possible for the change of the model and simulation structure. In addition, our methods are effective to implement the functions for supporting simulation such as the model data logging and communication with external systems. In this paper, we describe an architecture and functions for the framework and tools.

Activity-oriented Modeling of Mass Production System (대량생산 체제의 Simulation을 위한 Activity 중심 Modeling)

  • Described in this paper is a modelling methodology for mass production system simulation. The mass production system under consideration consists of various types of flow lines, special purpose production facilities, conveyor lines, palletized carts, and storage facilities. This type of production system is typical in home appliance industry, automobile industry, footwear industry, etc. where a variety of product mix are mass-produced. The modelling methodology is based on the "discrete-event formalism", and an "activity-oriented world view" is adopted to formalize the system description. A distinctive feature of the modelling methodology is that only the static structure (ie, system components) is included in the fixed model. The dynamic structure of the system is specified through a "data-driven" mechanism, which is an extension of the "experimental frame" concept. Each type of system components (ie, flow line, conveyors, carts, etc.) is formally modeled by using Activity Cycle Diagrams. The issue of "model structuring" is also addressed. The modeling methodology has been successfully applied in a real simulation study of a mass production system.

  • Attempts to attack hosts in the network have become diverse, due to crackers developments of new creative attacking methods. Under these circumstances the role of intrusion detection system as a security system component gets considerably importance. Therefore, in this paper, we have suggested multiple intrusion detection system based on the contract net protocol which provides the communication among multiple agents. In this architecture, fuzzy rule based system has been applied for agent selection among agents competing for being activated. The simulation models are designed and implemented based on DEVS formalism which is theoretically well grounded means of expressing discrete event simulation models.
