  • Recently some urban areas have been flooded due to heavy storm rainfalls. Though major causes of these floodings may be attributed to localized heavy rainfalls, other factors are related to urban flooding including deficiency of storm sewer network capacity, change of surface runoff due to covered open channels, and operational problems of storm drainage pump stations. In this study, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of Sutak basin in Guri city were carried out to evaluate flooding problems occurred during the heavy storm in July, 2001. ArcView, a world most widely used GIS tool, was used to extract required data for the hydrologic analysis including basin characteristics data, concentration times, channel routing data, land use data, soil distribution data and SCS runoff curve number generation from digital maps. HEC-HMS, a GIS-based runoff simulation model, was successfully used to simulate the flood inflow hydrograph to Sutak pumping station.

  • This paper presents the wind-power model for generation adequacy assessment. Both wind-power and system load depend on time of a year and show their periodic nature with similar periods. Therefore, the two quantities have some probabilistic relations, and if one of them is given, the other can be decided with some probability. In this paper, the two quantities are quantized by k-means clustering algorithm and related probabilities among the cluster centers are calculated using sequential wind-power and system load data. The proposed model is highly expected to be applied for generation adequacy assessment by Monte-Carlo simulation with state sampling method.

  • Livestock manure solid fuel has been studied as a promising domestic energy resource for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in agricultural fields. To successfully commercialize this technology, the environmental facilities require optimization in accordance with domestic environmental standards. In the present study, a computational analysis model of a livestock manure solid fuel boiler system was developed using Aspen Plus® to investigate nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions and NOx conversion efficiency using urea-based selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR). All data were compared across different livestock species and simulated at various operating temperatures. The simulation showed that NOx emissions were the highest from chicken manure and the lowest from swine manure. However, when converted to an oxygen concentration of 12%, NOx emissions were the highest from cattle manure. Dominant factors influencing NOx emissions through a range of temperatures were analyzed, and the optimal operating temperature range (875-950℃) was derived.

  • Wind is a significant and valuable renewable energy resource. It is safe and abundant and can make an important contribution to future clean, sustainable and diversified electricity supplies. Unlike other sources of energy, wind does not pollute the atmosphere nor create any hazardous waste. In some countries wind energy is already competitive with fossil and nuclear power even without accounting for the environmental benefits of wind power. The cost of electricity from conventional power stations does not usually take full account of its environmental impact (acid rain, oil slick clean up, the effects of climate change, etc). In this paper, a transient phenomenon simulation method for Wind Power Generation System(WPGS) under real weather conditions has been proposed. The simulation method is expected to be able to analyze easily under various conditions with considering the sort of wind turbine, the capacity of system and the converter system. Wind turbine connected to the synchronous generator and power converter was simulated.

  • In general, it is known that walking stability of a quadruped is determined by its COG(Center of Gravity). In this paper, in order to know whether our virtual quadruped robot is applicable to the real quadruped robot, we simulated our virtual model using the data from the real robot‘s walking. We were able to evaluate the stride of quadruped based on direct and inverse kinematics and compared the stride of the simulation with real robot’s it. During the simulation we calculated the COG of the virtual model and evaluated the walking stability of real model.

  • This paper describes a top-down behavior planning framework in a simulation game from personality to real life action selection. The combined behavior creating system is formed by five levels of specification, which are personality definition, motivation extraction, emotion generation, decision making and action execution. Along with the data flowing process in our designed framework, NPC selects actions autonomously to adapt to the dynamic environment information resulting from active agents and human players. Furthermore, we illuminate applying Gaussian probabilistic distribution to realize character's behavior changeability like human performance. To elucidate the mechanism of the framework, we situated it in a restaurant simulation game.

  • A piezo-actuator is an important component for an E-beam lithography system. But it is very difficult to model its characteristics due to nonlinearities such as hysteresis and creep, to the input voltage. In this paper, one-axis micro stage with a piezo-actuator is modeled including the nonlinear properties. Hysteresis and creep are modeled as the first order differential equation and a time-dependent logarithmic function, respectively. The dynamic motion of the stage is also modeled as a mass-spring-damper system and the parameters are determined by utilizing the system identification technique. The simulation tool for a micro stage is constructed using the commercial software and its simulation results are compared with the experimental data.

  • For coping with various ship types easily, welding automation using CAD/CAM is demanded and and developed. In this paper we propose a dedicated CAM system which generates MACRO files to control robot manipulators. The paper contains CAD interface, virtual simulation, macro generation and job schedulling. At first, it defines and extracts weldline from CAD data, and generates proper MACRO programs. And it obtains optimum job schedules. This system removes the manual work, and consequently reduces the overall lead time. And it reduces costs and time for developing robot welding programs. This can be expanded to virtual factory simulation technology. Moreover, it is possible to apply this system for automation of Cutting and Painting

  • On-machine measuring system of Numerically Control(NC) machines permit computer control of basic material cutting processes of moulds. A part of mould designed within a CAD/CAM system can be manufactured by generation of tool paths by the measuring systems. Since the three-dimensional geometry by AutoCAD of the part is contained in the data base, the manufacturing specialist combined with the appropriate software simulation, can not only create the commands to drive the virtual measuring and standardization of measuring modules but also can check for mistakes by viewing the computer graphics simulation of the tool cutting sequence.
