A simplified model which incorporates the moment-axial tension interaction of the double-span beams in a column-removed steel frame is presented in this paper. To this end, material and geometric nonlinear parametric finite element analyses were conducted for the double-span beams by changing the beam span to depth ratio and the beam size within some practical ranges. The beam span to depth ratio was shown to be the most influential factor governing the catenary action of the double-span beams. Based on the parametric analysis results, a simplified piecewise linear model which can reasonably describe the vertical, resisting force versus the beam chord rotation relationship was proposed. It was also shown that the proposed method can readily be used for the energy-based progressive collapse analysis of steel moment frames.
This paper presents a comparative study on the double-K fracture parameters of concrete obtained using four existing analytical methods such as Gauss-Chebyshev integral method, simplified Green's function method, weight function method and simplified equivalent cohesive force method. Two specimen geometries: three point bend test and compact tension specimen for sizes 100-500 mm at initial notch length to depth ratios 0.25 and 0.4 are used for the comparative study. The required input parameters for determining the double-K fracture parameters are derived from the developed fictitious crack model. It is found that the cohesive toughness and initial cracking toughness determined using weight function method and simplified equivalent cohesive force method agree well with those obtained using Gauss-Chebyshev integral method whereas these fracture parameters determined using simplified Green's function method deviates more than by 11% and 20% respectively as compared with those obtained using Gauss-Chebyshev integral method. It is also shown that all the fracture parameters related with double-K model are size dependent.
To understand the basic relationship between 3D curved surface model and 2D pattern, simplified torso model was generated by commercial CAD program (IDEAS). 3D torso model was then divided into different blocks and unfolded into a flat pattern as in ordinary works of clothing item design. As results, 2D pattern development of different part of 3D torso model was attempted and analyzed mathematically. It was found that different height, radius and tangent slope of 3D blocks resulted in different 2D pattern. The relationships between the shape parameters of 3D torso blocks and those of 2D patterns were analyzed using regression equations. Direct way of drawing a 2D pattern of corresponding 3D torso block was also illustrated for the convenience of pattern making using conventional measurements of upper/ lower radii and height of 3D torso block.

The Reynolds strss equation with turbulent energy-length scales was simplified in the nearly homogeneous turbulent equilibrium flow and a modified Reynolds stress model was proposed. Tn the model proposed in the present study, Reynolds stresses can be expressed in the form of algebraic equation, so that the turbulent stresses and related quantities are calculated through relatively simple procedures. The model predicted well the turbulent shear stresses of homogeneous flow in local equilibrium state obtained from experimental results published earlier Constants used In the model was determined universally and its validity was discussed briefly.
We presents a dynamic modeling of 4-wheel 2-DOF. WMR. The classic dynamic model utilizes a greatly simplified wheel motion representation and using of a simplified dynamic model confronts with a problem for accurate position control of wheeled mobile robot. In this paper, we treats the dynamic model for describes relationship between the wheel actuator force/torque and WMR motion through the use of Newton's equilibrium laws. To calculate the WMR position in real time, we introduced the Dead-Reckoning algorithms and the simulation result show that the proposed dynamic model is useful. We can be easily extend the proposed WMR model to mobile robot of similar type and this type of methodology is useful to analyze, design and control any kinds of rolling robots.
In this study, a well-established model and a new simplified version of it, that help avoid collapses in reinforced concrete structures during strong earthquakes, are presented and discussed. Using this model, the initial formation of plastic hinges and the final concentration of the damages only in beams are accurately assured. The model also assures that the columns and the beam-column joints can remain intact. This model can be applied for the design of modern R/C structures, as well as for the design of strengthening schemes of old R/C structures by the use of reinforced concrete jackets. The model can also predict the form of earthquake damages in old structures but also earthquake damages in the modern structures.

The purpose of this study is to predict vertical illuminance accurately at the design stage of a building without the help of simulation tools. Comparing two well-known vertical illuminance prediction algorithms with measured values, it is verified that the Igawa model is more consistent with the measured values than the Perez model. Using the DIVA program, we simulated the vertical illuminance at 30-degree intervals from south to north, compared with the vertical illuminance calculated with the Igawa model. The result of calculation values were verified from 120 degrees east to 120 degrees west. The vertical illuminance values with each of three shade devices were calculated using the Igawa model, and compared with the vertical illuminance simulated by DIVA program. As a result, all the errors when installing horizontal / vertical / grid shade divices were included in the error standard specified by ASHRAE.
We analyze the design and specifications of the Sun-and-Stars Time-Determining group of instruments (Ilseong-jeongsi-ui, 日星定時儀) made during the Joseon dynasty. According to the records of the Sejong Sillok (Veritable Records of King Sejong), Sun-and-Stars Time-Determining Instruments measure the solar time of day and the sidereal time of night through three rings and an alidade. One such instrument, the Simplified Time-Determining Instrument (So-jeongsi-ui, 小定時儀), is made without the essential component for alignment with the celestial north pole. Among this group of instruments, only two bronze Hundred-Interval-Ring Sundials (Baekgak-hwan-Ilgu, 百刻環日晷) currently exist. A comparison of the functions of these two relics with two Time-Determining Instruments suggests that the Hundred-Interval-Ring Sundial is a Simplified Sundial (So-ilyeong, 小日影), as recorded in the Sejong Sillok and the Seongjong Sillok (Veritable Records of King Seongjong). Furthermore, the Simplified Sundial is a model derived from the Simplified Time-Determining Instrument. During the King Sejong reign, the Sun-and-Stars Time-Determining Instruments were used in military camps of the kingdom's frontiers, in royal ancestral rituals, and in royal astronomical observatories.
Companies have attempted to build a rational and future-oriented new personnel system in order to adapt and survive in a rapidly changing environment. Recently, Samsung, LG, SK, and CJ, which are large domestic corporations, have been introducing new types of simplified personnel systems competitively. Although there are several prior studies that tried to classify these simplified personnel systems from a strategic point of view, there is a lack of empirical research in terms of the specific types from the perspective of employees. Therefore, in this study, an empirical study on the simplified personnel system which has currently been highlighted was carried out. The relationship between perceived justice (i.e., distributive justice and procedural justice) and organizational effectiveness (i.e., organizational commitment and innovative behavior) were tested. In addition, the mediating role of cognitive attitude as well as the moderating role of cognitive intensity in the simplified personnel system were investigated. The results of structural equation model using 157 survey data show that both distributive and procedural justice have a positive effect on cognitive attitude toward the simplified personnel system, which in turn leads to increased organizational commitment and innovative behavior. Interestingly, it is found that cognitive intensity intensifies the effect of distributive justice on cognitive attitude, whereas it attenuates the influence of procedural justice as expected. This study is among one of the first empirical studies focusing on the simplified personnel system and expands the concept of related variables such as perceived justice, cognitive attitude, and cognitive intensity in this context. Moreover, by clarifying the causal relationship between perceived justice and organizational effectiveness through the roles of cognitive attitude and cognitive intensity, it could provide several practical implications to managers who are interested in the introduction and early settlement of simplified personnel systems in a successful manner.

This paper describes a new practical simplification method for feature-based solid models. In this approach, a solid model created using feature modeling operations is first simplified by the suppression of detailed features, and then, if necessary, the model is converted to a surface model to facilitate its modification. Finally, the simplified surface model is delivered to analysis packages. The algorithm was implemented based on CATIA V.5 and applied to mid-surface generation of plastic parts for structural analysis to prove the validity and usefulness.
