In this work, we deposited SWNTs/silane hybrid thin films by multiple spray-coating on glass substrate, and examined their electrical response for humidity. Generally silane binders which are often used in CNT solution to adhere CNTs to substrate well can be easily functionalized to each own group on the surface of CNTs after they are hardened by way of the hydrolysis reaction. We investigated how silane binders (TEOS,, MTMS and VTMS) in SWNTs hybrid thin films make effect to their electrical response on humidity. As the result, we observed that the resistance in the sample using TEOS was changed dramatically while it was almost invariant in the samples using MTMS and VTMS for increasing humidity.

Recently the solution-based thin film technology has often been treated in the field of device fabrication owing to easy process and convenience for the development of various semiconductor devices and sensors. We deposited on glass substrate single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs)/silane hybrid thin films by multiple spray-coating which is one of solution-based processes, and examined their electrical response for humidity. Generally silane binders which are often mixed in carbon nanotube (CNT) solution to adhere CNTs to substrate well form easily each own functionalized group on the surface of CNTs after they are hardened by way of the hydrolysis reaction. In this work, we investigated how silane binders (TEOS (tetraethoxy silane), MTMS (methyltrimethoxysilane) and VTMS (vinyltrimethoxysilane)) in CNT thin films make effect to their electrical response on humidity. As the result, we found that the resistance in the samples using TEOS was changed dramatically while it was almost invariant in the samples using MTMS and VTMS for increasing humidity.

Here, we describe a versatile strategy for precise control of the optoelectrical properties of the single walled carbon nanotube (SWNT)/silane binder hybrid films by noncovalent hybridization. Stable SWNT/silane binder solutions were prepared by direct mixing of high concentration CNT solutions and silane sol solutions. The critical binder content was determined by varying the amount of binder in the SWNT/binder solutions. A binder content of 50 wt% was used to prepare the other SWNT/binder solutions. This study demonstrates how the intermolecular interactions between the SWNTs and the silanes can affect the conductivity of the CNT/binder network films by characterizing the optoelectrical and Raman spectroscopic properties of the SWNT/silane films containing silane binders with various functional groups. The use of the PTMS binder with phenyl groups was found to be most effective in the fabrication of transparent and conductive films on glass substrates. Such a precise control of the optoelectrical properties of SWNT/binder films can be useful to fabricate the high performance conductive thin films, with ramifications for understanding the fundamental intermolecular interaction in carbon materials science.

We suggest CNT-based gas sensors for breath alcohol measurement. The sensors were composed of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) thin film on glass substrate with simple process, and the SWNTs thin film as sensing layer was formed by multiple spray-coating with SWNT composites which was well-dispersed, highly controlled and differently functionalized by various binders (TEOS, MTMS, and VTMS) added in ethanol solvent. In this work, three different SWNTs thin films were made to compare their electrical response properties for alcohol vapor. From fabricated sensors, conductance responses were measured and discussed. In the result, our alcohol gas sensors showed an effective selectivity even at room temperature.

Conductive pastes consist of conductive fillers( Au, Ag, Ni, Cu etc.), organic binders, solvents and additives. Meanwhile, there are some metal powders such as copper, nickel etc that are used for pastes which have serious surface corrosion problems. This problem leads to change of the color and decrease in conductivity and affect storage stability of conductive pastes. By using silane coupling agent and dispersion agent, we can ensure both the corrosion stability and long term storage stability, and enhance the high performance electrical and mechanical properties of EMI shielding silicone sealant.
In order to enhance the thermal stability of binder materials of bonded type solid lubricants, several metal-alkoxide based sol-gel materials such as methyltrimethoxysilane(MTMOS), titaniumisopropoxide (Ti(Opr$\^$i/)$_4$), zirconiumisopropoxide (Zr(Opr$\^$i/)$_4$) and aluminumbutoxide (Al(Obu$\^$t/)$_4$) were modified chemically by both epoxy and acrylic silane compounds. Friction and wear characteristics of the bonded solid lubricants, whose binders were of several hybrid ceramic materials, were tested with a reciprocating tribo-tester. Wear life was evaluated with respect to the heat-curing temperature, friction temperature, type of supplement lubricants, and ratio of binder materials. Test results showed that the Si-Zr hybrid ceramic materials modified by epoxy-silane compounds had a higher wear life compared to others. Sb$_2$O$_3$ was the most effective supplement lubricants in the high temperature, and BUS analyses revealed that it was caused mainly by a strong anti-oxidation effect to MoS$_2$ particles. The higher heat-curing temperature resulted in the higher wear life, and the higher friction temperature resulted in the lower wear life.

This study attempted to apply a hybrid technology that integrated mineral-based fillers and water-repellent agents to control the efflorescence that results from the use of inorganic binders, for the conservation treatment (surface finishing) of cultural heritage materials made up of stone. Herein, different types of mixing ratios of a filler (silica fume 3.4%) and a water repellent (silane-siloxane 1%) were selected for fabricating the inorganic binder, and it was determined that the ratio selected by weight is effective in controlling efflorescence substances. In addition, it was identified that the inorganic binder with the mixing ratio resulted in a higher compressive strength than the standard (20MPa), and the water permeability resistance was high with low water absorption. The result of ion elution from the bilder showed that a smaller number of ions was observed to affect the efflorescence (directly and indirectly) as compared to that of the control group, which was considered to be relatively stable.

Poly(olefin ketone) terpolymer having excellent mechanical properties was synthesized and composite materials of poly(olefin ketone) containing polyurethane/amino silane functionalized glass fibers were prepared. The compatibilities between the functionalized glass fiber and the polymer were characterized by observing the fracture surfaces of the composites using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical properties of composites with different contents, diameters, lengths, and binders of glass fibers were also studied using universal testing machine (UTM). The introduction of suitably functionalized glass fiber into the poly(olefin ketone) produces composite materials having excellent mechanical properties and they are very promising alternative materials for the engineering plastic applications.
