  • The intermodulation distortion(IMD) due to laser diode nonlinearity of an asynhcronous direct sequence code diviion multiple access(DS/CDMA) system in wireless-optical transmission system model is analzed. A third order polynomial is used to represent laser diode nonlinearity. In DS/CDMA system, only one harmonic of the third-order intermodulation term falls on the signal frequency band and influences the system performance characteristics. To cancel multi-user interference and nonlinear distortion in a DS/CDMA wireless-optical transmission system model, the simple transversal filter structure with N-taps of (N-1) tap delay of 1 chip time delay line is used. It is necessary to select an optimal modulation index that provides a maximum signal-to-noise ratio and the results are useful for CDMA system design.

  • In this paper, we investigate an interference mitigation scheme by antenna selection in device-to-device (D2D) communication underlaying downlink cellular networks. We first present the closed-form expression of the system achievable rate and its asymptotic behaviors at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the large antenna number scenarios. It is shown that the high SNR approximation increases with more antennas and higher ratio between the transmit SNR at the base station (BS) and the D2D transmitter. In addition, a tight approximation is derived for the rate and we reveal two thresholds for both the distance of the D2D link and the transmit SNR at the BS above which the underlaid D2D communication will degrade the system rate. We then particularize on the small cell setting where all users are closely located. In the small cell scenario, we show that the relationship between the distance of the D2D transmitting link and that of the D2D interfering link to the cellular user determines whether the D2D communication can enhance the system achievable rate. Numerical results are provided to verify these results.

  • The goal of mobile internet system is to provide a high-data-rate, low-latency and optimized packet radio access technology supporting flexible bandwidth deployments. Therefore, network architecture is designed with the goal to support packet-switched traffic with seamless mobility, quality of service and minimal latency. An important requirement for the mobile internet system is improved cell-edge BER performance and data throughput. This is to provide some level of service consistency in terms of geographical coverage as well as in terms of available data throughput within the communication coverage area. In a cellular system, however, the signal to interference plus noise power ratio gap between cell-center and cell-edge users can be of the order of 20 [dB]. The disparity can be even higher in a communication coverage limited cellular system. This leads to vastly lower data throughputs for the cell-edge users relative to cell-center users creating a large QoS gap. This paper proposes a analytical approach that tries to reduce inter-cell interference, and shows the SIR and BER performance according to the OFDM system parameters in mobile Internet environment.

  • We have fabricated the low noise liquid helium(LHe) dewar with a different shape of thermal shield to apply the 64-channel SQUID(Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) gradiometer. The first shape of thermal shield was made of an aluminum plate with a wide width of 100 mm slit and the other shape was modified with a narrow width of 20 mm slit. The two types of dewars were estimated by comparing the thermal noise and the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) of magnetocardiography(MCG) using the $1^{st}$ order SQUID gradiometer system cooled each dewar. The white noise was different as a point of the dewar. The noise was increased as close as the edge of dewar, and also increased at the thermal shield with the more wide width slit. The white noise of the dewar with thermal shield of 100 mm slit was 6.5 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$ at the center of dewar and 25 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$ at the edge, and the white noise of the other one was 3.5 - 7 fT/$Hz^{1/2}$. We measured the MCG using 64-channel SQUID gradiometer cooled at each LHe dewar and compared the SNR of MCG signal. The SNR was improved of 10 times at the LHe dewar with a modified thermal shield.

  • This paper studies the problem of secure information exchange between two sources via multiple relays in the presence of an eavesdropper. To this end, we propose a relay beamforming scheme, i.e., relay beamforming with artificial noise (RBwA), where the relay beamforming vector and the artificial noise vector are jointly designed to maintain the received signal-to-interference-ratio (SINR) at the two sources over a predefined Quality of Service (QoS) threshold while limiting the received SINR at the eavesdropper under a predefined secure threshold. For comparison, the relay beamforming without artificial noise (RBoA) is also considered. We formulate two optimization problems for the two schemes, where our goal is to seek the optimal beamforming vector to minimize the total power consumed by relay nodes such that the secrecy of the information exchange between the two sources can be protected. Since both optimization problems are nonconvex, we solve them by semidefinite program (SDP) relaxation theory. Simulation results show that, via beamforming design, physical layer secrecy of two-way relay networks can be greatly improved and our proposed RBwA outperforms the RBoA in terms of both low power consumption and low infeasibility rate.

  • This paper presents the error performance of 16 star-QAM with diversity reception in microcell systems in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) and cochannel interference. The differential detection of 16 star-QAM is split into phase detection and amplitude detection. This technique can reduce the degradation of error performance which is due to fading and the complexity of receiver. Diversity reception is proposed to improve the degradation of error performance due to fading. Equal gain and maximal ratio combinings were adopted for the phase detection and the amplitude detection, respectively. The performance of 16 star-QAM was evaluated for various of Rician factor K, maximum Doppler frequency f_DT, signal to cochannel interference ratio and diversity branch L.

  • In this paper, we assume that another transmitter can transmit its data signal in the same frequency band in order to maximize the frequency efficiency of non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA) systems. We also focus on the improvement in fairness performance of receiver's data rates, not the maximization of sum data rate for NOMA systems. Thus, in this paper, we propose a power allocation scheme to enhance the fairness performance of average data rates of receivers considering the NOMA systems in the presence of interference. Assuming Rayleigh fading channels, the average data rates of receivers are defined, and the power allocation coefficients to improve the data-rate fairness are derived by using high signal-to-noise power ratio approximation. In addition, through simulations, it is shown that the proposed power allocation scheme can improve the data-rate fairness in the NOMA system with interference.

  • To achieve a goal of minimum output power, the beamformer tends to cancel the desired signal if there exists correlated interference sources such as multipaths of the desired signal. In this paper, we propose a new method which overcomes the signal cancellation problem for correlated interferences. Instead of decorrelating the correlated interferences, the proposed bramformer regards them as replicas of the desired signal and coherently combines them with desired signal. This method uses an eigenvector constraint that suppresses a noise and uncorrelated interferences but keeps the desired signal and correlated interferences. Indisputably, the beamformer does not require any preliminary information on correlated interferences. Simulation results show that the proposed beamformer overcomes the signal cancellation problem and improves signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the array output when the correlated interferences exist.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for transmit antenna selection in a multi-input multi-output(MIMO) spatial multiplexing system with per antenna rate control(PARC) and an ordered successive interference cancellation (OSIC) receiver. The active antenna subset is determined at the receiver and conveyed to the transmitter using feedback information on transmission rate per antenna. We propose a serial decision procedure consisting of a successive process that tests whether antenna selection gain exists when the antenna with the lowest pre-processing signal to interference and noise ratio(SINR) is discarded at each stage. Furthermore, we show that 'reverse detection ordering', whereby the signal with the lowest SINR is decoded at each stage of successive decoding, widens the disparities among fractions of the whole capacity allocated to each individual antenna and thus maximizes a gain of antenna selection. Numerical results show that the proposed reverse detection ordering based serial antenna selection approaches the closed-loop MIMO capacity and that it induces a negligible capacity loss compared with the heuristic selection strategy even with considerably reduced complexity.

  • In wireless sensor networks, link scheduling is a fundamental problem related to throughput capacity and delay. For a given set of communication requests $L=\{l_1,l_2,{\cdots},l_n\}$, the MLS (maximum link scheduling) problem aims to find the largest possible subset S of Lsuch that the links in S can be scheduled simultaneously. Most of the existing results did not consider bidirectional transmission setting, which is more realistic in wireless sensor networks. In this paper, under physical interference model SINR (signal-to-noise-plus-interference-ratio) and bidirectional transmission model, we propose a constant factor approximation algorithm MLSA (Maximum Link Scheduling Algorithm) for MLS. It is proved that in the same topology setting the capacity under unidirectional transmission model is lager than that under bidirectional transmission model. However, compared with some work under unidirectional transmission model, the capacity of MLSA is improved about 28% to 45%.
