Vibration Source Signal Identification of Structures Using ICA (ICA 기법을 이용한 구조물의 진동원 신호 규명)

  • Independent component analysis (ICA) technique based on statistical independency of the signals is known as suitable to identify the source signals by measuring and separating mixed signals through transfer paths and has successfully applied in the field of medical care, communications and so forth. In this study, the ICA technique is introduced for the identification of excitation sources from measured vibration signals of structures, which can be done by evaluating negentropy of centered and whitened vibration signals and correlation of separated signals. To validate the method, numerical analyses are carried out for a plate and a cylinder structure. The results show that the method can be applied efficiently to source identification of complex structures. Nevertheless, additional studies would be required to complement problems of occasional inaccuracy.

  • As the number of signal sources with low detectability by using various modulation techniques increases, research to classify signal modulation methods is steadily progressing. Recently, a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) deep learning technique using FFT as a preprocessing process has been proposed to improve the performance of received signal classification in signal interference or noise environments. However, due to the characteristics of the FFT in which the window is fixed, it is not possible to accurately classify the change over time of the detection signal. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a CNN model that has high resolution in the time domain and frequency domain and uses wavelet transform as a preprocessing process that can express various types of signals simultaneously in time and frequency domains. It has been demonstrated that the proposed wavelet transform method through simulation shows superior performance regardless of the SNR change in terms of accuracy and learning speed compared to the FFT transform method, and shows a greater difference, especially when the SNR is low.

  • CAN is a serial communication bus for real-time controls and automations in distributed control systems. In distributed control systems, occasionally a sensor module and a controller are not in the same node and physically separated. In order for the signal from a sensor node to reach the controller node, the signal must travel through network. CAN has a certain capabilities to deal with real-time data. However, when many nodes on the networks try to send data on the same network, the arbitration mechanism to solve the data collision problem is necessary. This situation causes the time delay which has detrimental effects on the performance of the control systems. This paper proposes a method to solve the problem due to the time delay in distributed control system using CAN. Time delay is approximated to an element with a rational transfer function using Pade approximation and Mu~synthesis method is applied. Since time delay in the network is not constant, the time delay element is considered to be an uncertainty block with a bound. The proposed method is applied to the experimental system with CAN and proved to be effective.

Flow Rate Control System Design for the Industrial Valve (산업용 밸브의 유량제어 시스템 설계)

  • This paper proposes a flow-rate control system for industrial valves. Industrial valves are used in piping systems to control the flow rate and pressure. In general, valves used in pipelines are classified into globe valves, butterfly valves, and ball valves according to the shape. Motor, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems are used for operating valves. The flow meter should measure the flow rate when configuring the flow-rate control system. On the other hand, because the flow rate of the valve can be expressed by flow coefficient, a control scheme is proposed using the pressure deviation, which measures at the front and rear of the valve. The transfer function for the valve, according to the control input, was estimated using the signal compression method. Based on the induced transfer function, the disturbance observer was designed to improve the command following the performance of the valve stem. The performance of the proposed control method is compared with the flow-rate control result using the flow meter used.

  • Satellite performance can be evaluated by image quality. MTF(Modulation Transfer Fuction), SNR(Signal To Noise Ratio), GSD(Ground Sample Distance) etc. are important bias parameters to analyze image quality. It is necessary to estimate quality of satellite image in design stage. In this paper, the simulating method of satellite image quality, considering design, manufacturing, and operation, is proposed. The proposed method shall be used to estimate and restore quality of satellite image.

  • We implemented a CD signal processor operated on a CAV 48-speed CD-ROM drive into a VLSI. The CD signal processor is a mixed mode monolithic IC including servo-processor, data recovery, data-processor, and I-bit DAC. For servo signal processing, we included a DSP core, while, for CAV mode playback, we adopted a PLL with a wide recovery range. Data processor (DP) was designed to meet the yellow book specification.[2]So, the DP block consists of EFM demodulator, C1/C2 ECC block, audio processor and a block transferring data to an ATAPI chip. A modified Euclid's algorithm was used as a key equation solver for the ECC block To achieve the high-speed decoding, the RS decoder is operated by a pipelined method. Audio playability is increased by playing a CD-DA disc at the speed of 12X or 16X. For this, subcode sync and data are processed in the same way as main data processing. The overall performance of IC is verified by measuring a transfer rate from the innermost area of disc to the outermost area. At 48-speed, the operating frequency is 210 ㎒, and this chip is fabricated by 0.35 um STD90 cell library of Samsung Electronics.

Development of Light Transmission Fluctuation for Particle Measurement in Solid-Gas Two Phase Flows

  • In order to realize In-line and convenient measurement for solid-gas two phase flows, Light Transmission Fluctuation (LTF) based on the random variation of transmitted light intensity, light scattering theory and cross-correlation method was presented for online measurement of particle size, concentration and velocity. The statistical relationship among transmitted light intensity, particle size and particle number in measurement zone was described by Beer-Lambert Law. Accordingly, the particle size and concentration were determined from the fluctuation signal of transmitted light intensity. Simultaneously, the particle velocity was calculated by cross-correlation analysis of two neighboring light beams. By considering the influence of concentration variation in industrial applications, the improved algorithm based on spectral analysis of transmitted light intensity was proposed to improve measurement accuracy and stability. Therefore, the online measurement system based on LTF was developed and applied to measure pulverized coal in power station and raw material in cement plant. The particle size, concentration and velocity of powder were monitored in real-time. It can provide important references for optimal control, energy saving and emission reduction of energy-intensive industries.

Acoustic Transfer Characteristics of Ship′s Bridge for Whistle Sound (기적음에 대한 선박 선교의 음향전달특성)

  • The paper describes measurement techniques for an acoustic transfer characteristic of ship's bridge stimulated by a whistle sound The response sounds, according to the opening-shutting conditions of bridge doors for Training Ship ‘SAENURI’, are measured by B&K 2260D equipment, and then the frequency responses are extracted by B&K 7830 software. To evaluate the measured transfer characteristic, the 128th order FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters, containing the different frequency characteristics, are constructed based on the frequency sampling-based design method Using evaluation indexes with six scales, psychological assessments by five subjects are carried out with test sounds which are obtained from convolving the source signal with FIR filters. As results of tests, the test sounds gives $A_S$ 3.3∼4.7 which means the psychological sense of ‘it is almost similar sound as original ones in a real world’, and thus it is clearly seen that the proposed method can be used for the measurement of an acoustic transfer characteristic of ship’s bridge.

  • Hardware realization of a digital 2-D homomorphic filter for real time contrast enhancement of video signal is presented. In homomorphic filter, logarithmic and exponential conversion used the memory lookup table method and because the hardware is implemented by multiplierless TTL devices, it can be designed to specific IC. The contrast gain can be controlled externally and the transfer function of homomorphic filter can be easily varied by the change of lookup table memory data.

All-optical Regenerator Using Semi-reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier

  • We have proposed and theoretically verified an optical regenerator using a single semi-reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (SR-SOA). To explain the operation characteristics and the operation condition of the proposed opticalregenerator, the simplified gain model for the SR-SOA is introduced and confirmed by comparing the result of the SOA simulation based on the transfer matrix method (TMM). The simulation results show that both extinction ratio (ER) enhancement and signal amplification can be achieved in the proposed regenerator.
