Target/Nontarget classification can be divided into the study of shape estimation of the target analysing reflected echo signal and of type classification of the target using acoustical features. In active sonar system, the feature vectors are extracted from the signal reflected from the target, and an classification algorithm is applied to determine whether the received signal is a target or not. However, received sonar signals can be distorted in the underwater environments, and the spatio-temporal characteristics of active sonar signals change according to the aspect of the target. In addition, it is very difficult to collect real sea-trial data for research. In this paper, target/non-target classification were performed using real sea-trial data. Feature vectors are extracted using MFCC(Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients), filterbank energy in the Fourier spectrum and wavelet domain. For the performance verification, classification experiments were performed using backpropagation neural network classifiers.

This paper presents the classification scheme of the signal facilities on the railroad considering the construction costs and maintenance costs in a low population area. The construction costs of the new signal facility system can be compare with the costs of the present signal facilities as the classification scheme. The signal facilities on the railroad were classified as the railroad security regulations and then the scheme is considered through the LCC analysis. In order to test this research, the costs of signal facilities obtained from ones on TAEBACK railroad line. The costs categorized the construction costs, the labor cost and the maintenance costs can be effectively applied to the LCC analysis. The scheme is very useful to make a decision whether the new signal facilities on railroad in low population area is build or not in terms of the costs.

Acoustic Emission technique is widely applied to develop the early fault detection system, and the problem about a signal processing method for AE signal is mainly focused on. In the signal processing method, envelope analysis is a useful method to evaluate the bearing problems and Wavelet transform is a powerful method to detect faults occurred on rotating machinery. However, exact method for AE signal is not developed yet. Therefore, in this paper two methods which are Hilbert transform and DET for feature extraction. In addition, we evaluate the classification performance with varying the parameter from 2 to 15 for feature selection DET, 0.01 to 1.0 for the RBF kernel function of SVR, and the proposed algorithm achieved 94% classification accuracy with the parameter of the RBF 0.08, 12 feature selection.
Conventional research works on the classification of the heart sound signal have been done mainly with the artificial neural networks. But the analysis results on the statistical characteristic of the heart sound signal have shown that the HMM is suitable for modeling the heart sound signal. In this paper, we model the various heart sound signals representing different heart diseases with the HMM and find that the classification rate is much affected by the clustering of the heart sound signal. Also, the heart sound signal acquired in real environments is a continuous signal without any specified starting and ending points of time. Hence, for the classification based on the HMM, the continuous cyclic heart sound signal needs to be manually segmented to obtain isolated cycles of the signal. As the manual segmentation will incur the errors in the segmentation and will not be adequate for real time processing, we propose a variant of the ergodic HMM which does not need segmentation procedures. Simulation results show that the proposed method successfully classifies continuous heart sounds with high accuracy.
As research on autonomous driving technology becomes more active, various studies on signal recognition of traffic lights are also being conducted. When recognizing traffic lights with different purposes and shapes, such as pedestrian traffic lights, vehicle-only traffic lights, and right-turn traffic lights, existing classification methods may cause misrecognition problems. Therefore, in this study, we studied a model that allows accurate signal recognition by subdividing the classification of signals according to the purpose and type of traffic lights. A signal recognition model was created by classifying traffic lights according to their shape and purpose into horizontal, vertical, right turn, etc., and by comparing them with the existing signal recognition model based on YOLOv5, it was confirmed that more correct and accurate recognition was possible.
This paper deals with the processing of statistical pattern classification of unifunctional EMG signal. The signal was detected from bicep and tricep of a simulated amputees instead of below the humerus amputees or paralyzed persons.
This paper investigated a method for classifying emotional states by using pulse wave signal. It focused on finding effective features for emotional state classification. The emptional states considered here consisted of interest and neutral. Classification experiments utilized 65 and 60 samples of interest and neutral states respectively. We have investigated 19 features derived from pulse wave signals by using both time domain and frequency domain analysis methods with 2 classifiers of minimum distance (normalized Euclidean distanece) and ${\kappa}$-Nearest Neighbour. The Leave-one-out cross validation was used as an evaluation mehtod. Based on experimental results, the most efficient features were a combination of 4 features consisting of (i) the mean of the first differences of the smoothed pulse rate time series signal, (ii) the mean of absolute values of the second differences of thel normalized interbeat intervals, (iii) the root mean square successive difference, and (iv) the power in high frequency range in normalized unit, which provided 80.8% average accuracy with ${\kappa}$-Nearest Neighbour classifier.

The metric defined on the domain deformation space better measures the similarity between bounded and continuous signals for the purpose of classification via the metric distances between signals. In this paper, a modified domain deformation theory is introduced for one-dimensional signal classification. A new metric defined on a modified domain deformation for measuring the distance between signals is employed. By introducing a newly defined metric space via the newly defined Integra-Normalizer, the assumption that domain deformation is applicable only to continuous signals is removed such that any kind of integrable signal can be classified. The metric on the modified domain deformation has an advantage over the $L^2$ metric as well as the previously introduced domain deformation does.

Large signal type data sets are difficult to classify, especially if the data sets are non-stationary. In this paper, large signal type and non-stationary data sets are wavelet transformed so that distinct features of the data are extracted in wavelet domain rather than time domain. For the classification of the data, a few wavelet coefficients representing class properties are employed for statistical classification methods : Linear Discriminant Analysis, Quadratic Discriminant Analysis, Neural Network etc. The application of our wavelet-based feature selection method to a mass spectrometry data set for ovarian cancer diagnosis resulted in 100% classification accuracy.

Premature ventricular contraction(PVC) is the most common disease among arrhythmia and it may cause serious situations such as ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Nevertheless personalized difference of ECG signal exist, performance degradation occurs because of carrying out diagnosis by general classification rule. In other words, the design of algorithm that exactly detects abnormal signal and classifies PVC by analyzing the persons's physical condition and/or environment and variable QRS pattern is needed. Thus, PVC classification by personalized abnormal signal detection and QRS pattern variability is presented in this paper. For this purpose, we detected R wave through the preprocessing method and subtractive operation method and selected abnormal signal sets. Also, we classified PVC in realtime through QS interval and R wave amplitude. The performance of abnormal beat detection and PVC classification is evaluated by using MIT-BIH arrhythmia database. The achieved scores indicate the average of 98.33% in abnormal beat classification error and 94.46% in PVC classification.
