  • License plate recognition system for an exclusive bus-lane is made of 5 core parts which are vehicle detection, image acquisition individual character extraction, character recognition and data transmission. Among them, the accuracy of license plate extraction can bring effect significantly to the accuracy of a whole system recognition rate also the more exact extraction of license plate is required in various weather and environment conditions. Therefore in this paper we propose a plat extraction algorithm that makes pyramid structure to reduced the extraction processing time binarizes plate's template region using adaptive thresholding extracts candidate region containing plate, and verifies a final region using plate character distribution characteristics among the candidates. • Tremendous computation of full search or lossless motion estimation algorithms for video coding has led development of many fast motion estimation algorithms. We still need proper control of computation and prediction quality. In the paper, we suggest an algorithm that reduces computation effectively and controls computational amount and prediction quality, while keeping prediction quality as almost the same as that of the full search. The proposed algorithm uses multiple thresholds for partial block sum and times of counting unchanged minimum position for each step. It also calculates the partial block matching error, removes impossible candidates early, implements fast motion estimation by comparing times of keeping the position of minimum error for each step, and controls prediction quality and computation easily by adjusting the thresholds. The proposed algorithm can be combined with conventional fast motion estimation algorithms as well as by itself, further reduce computation while keeping the prediction quality as almost same as the algorithms, and prove it in the experimental results.

  • Pasteurella multocida is a terrible veterinary pathogen that causes widespread infections in husbandry. To induce homologous and/or heterologous immunity against the infections, outer membrane protein Hs (OmpH) in the envelope of different strains of P. multocida are thought to be attractive vaccine candidates. Previously we cloned and characterized a gene for OmpH from pathogenic P. multocida (A : 3) (In Press, Korean J. Microbiol. Biotechnol. 2005, 33, December). The gene is composed of 1,047 nucleotides (nt) coding 348 amino acids (aa) with signal peptide of 20 aa. The truncated ompH, a gene without nt coding for the signal peptide, was generated using pRSET A to name "pRSET A/OmpH-F2". This truncated ompH was well expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). Truncated OmpH was purified for induction of immunity against live pathogen of fowl cholera (P. multocida A : 3) in mice. Some $50{\mu}g$ of the purified polypeptide was intraperitoneally injected into mice two times with 10 day interval. Lethal dose ($25{\mu}l$) of live P. multocida A : 3 was determined by directly injecting the pathogen into wild mice (n = 25). To demonstrate the vaccine candidate of the truncated OmpH, the live pathogen ($25{\mu}l$) was challenged with the OmpH-immunized mouse group as well as positive & negative controls (n = 80). The results show that the truncated OmpH can be used for an effective vaccine production to prevent fowl cholera caused by pathogenic P. multocida (A : 3).

  • In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm which is important in performance of video encoding. Even though so many fast algorithms for motion estimation have been published due to tremendous computational amount of full search algorithm, efforts for reducing computations of motion estimation still remain. In the paper, we propose an algorithm that reduces unnecessary computations only, while keeping prediction quality the same as that of the full search. The proposed algorithm does not calculate block matching error for each candidate directly to find motion vectors but divides the calculation procedure into several steps and calculates partial sum of block errors for candidates with high priority. By doing that, we can find the minimum error point early and get the enhancement of calculation speed by reducing unnecessary computations. The proposed algorithm uses smaller computations than conventional fast search algorithms with the same prediction quality as the full search algorithm.

  • This paper is about the method and procedure to register the candidate sequentially in the face recognition system using the PCA(Principal Components Analysis). We use the method to update the principal components sequentially with the SKL algorithm which is improved R-SVD algorithm. This algorithm enable us to solve the re-training problem of the increase the candidates number sequentially in the face recognition using the PCA. Also this algorithm can use in robust tracking system with the bright change based to the principal components. This paper proposes the procedure in the face recognition system which sequentially updates the principal components using the SKL algorithm. Then we compared the face recognition performance with the batch procedure for calculating the principal components using the standard KL algorithm and confirms the effects of the forgetting factor in the SKL algorithm experimentally.

  • Ascorbic acid plays a crucial role in the regulation of neurotransmitters and enzymes in the central nervous system. Maintaining an optimal level of ascorbic acid, which is between 0.6-2 mg/dL, is vital for preventing oxidative stress and associated health conditions, such as cancer, diabetes, and liver disease. Therefore, the detection of ascorbic acid is of the utmost importance. Electrochemical sensing has gained significant attention among the various detection methods, owing to its simplicity, speed, affordability, high selectivity, and real-time analysis capabilities. However, conventional electrodes have poor signal response, which has led to the development of modified electrodes with better signal response and selectivity. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and their composites have emerged as promising materials for the electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid. CNTs possess unique mechanical, electrical, and chemical properties that depend on their structure, and their large surface area and excellent electron transport properties make them ideal candidates for electrochemical sensing. Recently, various CNT composites with different materials and nanoparticles have been studied to enhance the electrochemical detection of ascorbic acid. Therefore, this review aims to highlight the significance of CNTs and their composites for improving the sensitivity and selectivity of ascorbic acid detection. Specifically, it focuses on the use of CNTs and their composites in electrochemical sensing to revolutionize the detection of ascorbic acid and contribute to the prevention of oxidative stress-related health conditions. The potential benefits of this technology make it a promising area for future research and development.

  • Sound event detection in real-world environments suffers from the interference of non-stationary and time-varying noise. This paper presents an adaptive noise reduction method for sound event detection based on non-negative matrix factorization (NMF). In this paper, we proposed a deep learning model that integrates Convolution Neural Network (CNN) with Non-Negative Matrix Factorization (NMF). To improve the separation quality of the NMF, it includes noise update technique that learns and adapts the characteristics of the current noise in real time. The noise update technique analyzes the sparsity and activity of the noise bias at the present time and decides the update training based on the noise candidate group obtained every frame in the previous noise reduction stage. Noise bias ranks selected as candidates for update training are updated in real time with discrimination NMF training. This NMF was applied to CNN and Hidden Markov Model(HMM) to achieve improvement for performance of sound event detection. Since CNN has a more obvious performance improvement effect, it can be widely used in sound source based CNN algorithm.

  • Vertical nanowire SGFETs(Surrounding Gate Field Effect Transistors) provide full gate control over the channel to eliminate short channel effects. This paper presents design and characterization of a differential pair amplifier using NMOS and PMOS SGFETs with a 10nm channel length and a 2nm channel radius. The amplifier dissipates $5{\mu}W$ power and provides 5THz bandwidth with a voltage gain of 16, a linear output voltage swing of 0.5V, and a distortion better than 3% from a 1.8V power supply and a 20aF capacitive load. The 2nd and 3rd order harmonic distortions of the amplifier are -40dBm and -52dBm, respectively, and the 3rd order intermodulation is -24dBm for a two-tone input signal with 10mV amplitude and 10GHz frequency spacing. All these parameters indicate that vertical nanowire surrounding gate transistors are promising candidates for the next generation high speed analog and VLSI technologies.

  • An experimental facility consisting of two $3{\times}4.4{\times}3.8m$ rooms identical in construction is built. Each room has a control system and storage tank supplying hot water to the radiant floor heating system. The facility enables simultaneous comparision of two different control stratigies each implemented in a separate room. The operating performance of three kinds of flow control scheme is tested and compared in this study : (i) conventional on-off control based on feedback from room air temperature (ii) TPSC(two parameter switching control) (iii) TPOC(two parameter on-off control). Results show that TPSC and TPOC using room air and surface temperature sequentially as feedback signal to control hot water supply is the better temperature regulation scheme than conventional control based on feedback from only room air temperature. They are good candidates for the room with radiant floor heating system under continuous and intermittent heating mode.

  • Panax ginseng Meyer, belonging to the genus Panax of the family Araliaceae, is known for its human immune system-related effects, such as immune-boosting effects. Ginseng polysaccharides (GPs) are the responsible ingredient of ginseng in immunomodulation, and are classified as acidic and neutral GPs. Although GPs participate in various immune reactions including the stimulation of immune cells and production of cytokines, the precise function of GPs together with its potential receptor(s) and their signal transduction pathways have remained largely unknown. Animal lectins are carbohydrate-binding proteins that are highly specific for sugar moieties. Among many different biological functions in vivo, animal lectins especially play important roles in the immune system by recognizing carbohydrates that are found exclusively on pathogens or that are inaccessible on host cells. This review summarizes the immunological activities of GPs and the diverse roles of animal lectins in the immune system, suggesting the possibility of animal lectins as the potential receptor candidates of GPs and giving insights into the development of GPs as therapeutic biomaterials for many immunological diseases.
