  • In this paper, a novel design concept of frequency doubler using feedforward technique and DGS microstrip line is proposed. The feedforward loop plays a role of fundamental frequency suppression and DGS microstrip line suppresses over the 3rd order harmonic components. By using this new concept, the high suppression for the undesired signals could be achieved easily. The proposed technique is experimentally demonstrated in 1.87 GHz-to-3.74 GHz frequency doubler. The output power of -3 dBm at the frequency of 3.74 GHz(2f$\_$0/) is measured with 42.9 dB suppression of the fundamental frequency signal(f$\_$0/), 20.2 dB suppression of the 3rd harmonic signal(3f$\_$0/) and B9.7 dB suppression of the 4th harmonic signal(4f$\_$0/). The conversion loss of -2.34 dB ∼ -5.8 dB at the bandwidth of 100 MHz, the phase noise of -97.51 dB/Hz(@10 kHz) were measured.

  • In this paper, the High-speed, Low-power Analog-Digital Conversion Archecture is porposed using the Pipelined archecture for High-speed conversion rate and the Successive-Approximation archecture for Low-power consumption. This archecture is the Successive-Approximation archecture using Pipelined Comparator array to change reference voltage during Holding Time. The Analog-to-Digital Converter for video processing is designed using 0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS tchnology. When an 6-bit 10MS/s Analog-to-Digital Converter is simulatined, the INL/DNL errors are $\pm$0.5/$\pm$1, respectively. The SNR is 37dB at a sampling rate of 10MHz with 100KHz sine input signal. The power consumption is 1.46mW at 10MS/s. When an 8-bit 10MS/s Analog-to Digital Converter is simulatined, the INL/DNL errors are $\pm$0.5/$\pm$1, respectively. The SNR is 41dB at a sampling rate of 100MHz with 100KHz sine input signal. The power consumption is 4.14m W at 10MS/s.

  • This paper presents a new TIQ based CMOS flash 6-bit ADC to process digital signal in real time. In order to improve the conversion speed of ADC by designing new logic or layout of ADC circuits, a new design method is proposed in encoding logic circuits. The proposed encoding circuits convert analog input into digitally encoded double base number system(DBNS), which uses two bases unlike the normal binary representation scheme. The DBNS adopts binary and ternary radix to enhance digital arithmetic processing capability. In the DBNS, the addition and multiplication can be processed with just shift operations only. Finding near canonical representation is the most important work in general DBNS. But the main disadvantage of DBNS representation in ADC is the fan-in problem. Thus, an equal distribution algorithm is developed to solve the fan-in problem after assignment the prime numbers first. The conversion speed of simulation result was 1.6 GSPS, at 1.8V power with the Magna $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and the maximum power consumption was 38.71mW.

  • The Digital Frequency Synthesizer(DFS) that generates the wideband signal with hish speed frequency hopping rate and high frequency resolution characteristics was implemented in this paper. The DFS was applied as local oscillator for direct frequency conversion IF modules of DVB-RCS, which directly generates the transmission immediate frequency signal by using DDS and wideband PLL technologies. The DDS technology provides high speed frequency hopping rate and high frequency resolution characteristics, which ate also the DVB-RCS requirement. The wideband PLL technology also provides the wideband signal generation, which is a necessity for direct frequency conversion modules. The implemented DFS provide the spurious suppression characteristic of -50 dBc, frequency resolution of 0.233 Hz and frequency hopping rate of 125 ns, respectively. Also the DFS represent the amplitude flatness of 3 dB and less in the pass-band and phase noise characteristic of -75 dBc/Hz at 1 kHz frequency offset.

  • Digital radiography imaging systems can also help diagnose lesions in patients, but if x-rays that enter the human body cause scatter x-ray due to interaction with substances, they affect the signal and noise characteristics of digital x-ray images. To regard the human body as polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and observe the properties of scattered x-ray generated from PMMA on x-ray images, we analyze signal and noise in the spatial domain as well as noise-power spectrum (NPS), and detective quantum efficiency (DQE) at zero frequency. As PMMA thickness increased, signals decreased, the noise increased, and NPS degradation was identified in overall spatial frequencies. Based on these characteristics, zero-frequency performance was also shown to be degraded. Comparative analysis with Monte-carlo simulations will need to be made to analyze the zero-frequency performance by scattered x-ray of indirect conversion-type x-ray detectors more quantitatively.

  • CP (Cellular Phone) is currently one of the most attractive technologies and RT (Robot Technology) is also considered as one of the most promising next generation technology. We present a new technological concept named RCP (Robotic Cellular Phone), which combines RT and CP. RCP consists of 3 sub-modules, $RCP^{Mobility}$, $RCP^{Interaction}$, and $RCP^{Integration}$. $RCP^{Interaction}$ is the main focus of this paper. It is an interactive emotion system which provides CP with multi-emotional signal receiving functionalities. $RCP^{Interaction}$ is linked with communication functions of CP in order to interface between CP and user through a variety of emotional models. It is divided into a tactile, an olfactory and a visual mode. The tactile signal receiving module is designed by patterns and beat frequencies which are made by mechanical-vibration conversion of the musical melody, rhythm and harmony. The olfactory signal receiving module is designed by switching control of perfume-injection nozzles which are able to give the signal receiving to the CP-called user through a special kind of smell according to the CP-calling user. The visual signal receiving module is made by motion control of DC-motored wheel-based system which can inform the CP-called user of the signal receiving through a desired motion according to the CP-calling user. In this paper, a prototype system is developed for multi-emotional signal receiving modes of CP. We describe an overall structure of the system and provide experimental results of the functional modules.

  • This paper contains the signal receiving algorithm for Galileo E5 AltBOC signal and the development of Galileo E5 signal receiving software. The software runs the process from signal acquisition to extracting measurement data to get navigation solution. It uses logged IF data file as an input. In signal acquisition stage, 1ms and delayed 1ms data are used for reducing correlation ross from secondary code and navigation bit conversion. Signal tracking stage is made of two stages which are coarse tracking and fine tracking. It is for taking advantage of AltBOC characteristic and resolving ambiguity problem due to BOC modulation. The functions of software are verified by signal processing using logged IF data from commercial GNSS simulator.

  • This paper proposes an novel method of minimizing Interference which causes data decision error in digital wireless communications. In this method, in order to suppress ISI which is caused by the phase difference between the transmitted and received signal phases, the transmitted and received signals are always kept orthogonal by compensating the transmitted signal for detecting the phase noise and the delay of the received signal was implemented by MOS circuits. To delay the phase of the signal, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment was used. The phase and delay of the signal transmitted through AWGN channel were compensated in the modulator of the transmitter and the compensated signal was demodulated using quasi-direct conversion receiver and QPSK demodulator. ISI suppression was achieved by keeping the orthogonality between the compensated transmitted signal and the receive signal. The error probability of data decision was compared. By simulation the proposed system was proved to be effective in minimizing the ISI.
