  • Recently. there are demanding a better sidewalk environment considering side of psychic as well as physical factors as the rapid growth of cities and improvement of traffic consciousness. Also. it needs to give a better sidewalk environment because those pedestrians evade a sidewalk space with minimum Physical design standards. So. we think very important that get a grip what makes Pedestrian feel a comfort and amenity in sidewalk above all. In this study, we carried out a cognition experiment of sidewalk environment on considering the human's psychic with Sensibility Ergonomics and the survey method using SD (Semantic Differential) scale. And we made a recognition evaluation model of sidewalk landscape and sensibility recognition model of sidewalk design factors using LISREL model that analysis sensibility recognition of sensibility adjective by SD scale. In results, we found out a possibility of the design with comfort and amenity in sidewalk environment as considering Sensibility Ergonomics, and an importance of harmonious green environment as a roadside tree etc. above all.

  • On the occasion of high price oil generation, we have to promote activation policy for public transportation and hold back to use passenger car, it is very important to improve of sidewalk environment for pedestrian. Evaluation for sidewalk environment will be fixed with sensibility to feel pedestrian. So, study for sensibility about comfort etc. to feel pedestrian will be carried out. In this paper, researchers interests in engineering methods to make material considering sensibility and image of human. Therefore, we carried out recognition experiment for sidewalk environment with Kansei engineering, and made a quantitativedata of sensibility adjective that it was surveyed by semantic deferential method. After grasp factors by principal analysis, we found factor effect to design criterion and sidewalk environment preference. So, we could identify a design factor for comfort environment.

  • This study was correlation analysis between provision and management of street green and street environment through field survey about city official roads(93 routes, 629.2km) in Seoul. Green belt under the street trees were 17.5% of all routes. Composition of street green belt width of 1~ 2m was the most common(11.6%). Management status as a protected facilities were protect frame and prtect cover installed inerval(60.1%). Interval of pruning was 63.5%. Type of tree was mainly 47.9%. Road width was mainly more than 8-line(51.3%). Sidewalk width was mainly 3~6m(84.1%)in environment status of street. Landuse was mainly commercial and business(70.3%). Electronic wire complete was mainly compete with crown(33.6%). Use of sidewalk was mainly used(16.3%). ANOVA analysis was conducted between the Street green and environment of Street. Street green belt(more than with 3m) was analyzed to be effective in street green manufacture. Natural green area of city's outside and Industrial area were analyzed to be effective. Use of sidewalk was to be a management. Protection facilities are installed on the narrow sidewalk width lower intensity. There was a higher strength in narrow sidewalk width, road width and compete with crown. And type of tree was higher strength similarly. Pruning and type of tree showd a significant correlation. Thus, ensure sufficient sidewalk width and land use should be considered for street green was effective manufacture and management. • Sidewalks are facilities used for the safe and comfortable passage of pedestrians and are paved with blocks of various materials. Currently, Korea does not have a quantitative survey method for the pavement condition of sidewalks, so it is necessary to develop an efficient survey method. Drones are being used as an efficient survey tool in various fields, but there are limited studies in which sidewalks have been investigated. This study investigates the possibility of detection by limiting the missing sidewalk blocks using a drone. This study is an initial study on the development of a method for detecting damage in sidewalk blocks. For this, sidewalk blocks were artificially removed to simulate a dropout situation, and images were acquired with 0.7-cm resolution using a drone. As a characteristic of the point cloud data acquired through image pre-processing, there was high variance of the elevation of the points in the missing area of the sidewalk block. Using these characteristics, an experiment was conducted to detect the missing parts of the sidewalk block by applying four thresholds to the variance of the elevation of points included in the grid corresponding to the sidewalk area. As a result, the detection accuracy was shown with a positive detection ratio of 70-80%, omission errors of 20-30%, and commission errors lower than 2%. It is judged that the possibility of detecting missing sidewalk blocks is high. This study focused on detecting a simulated missing sidewalk block in a limited environment. Therefore, it is expected that an efficient and quantitative method of detecting damaged sidewalk blocks can be developed in the future through additional research with considerations of the actual environment.

  • This study was aimed to assess accessibility situation of pedestrian environment of University-C focusing on accessibility of manual wheelchair users and to develop accessibility campus map. During March and April 2016, barrierfree design application situation of pedestrian environment and building entrances were investigated using a structured checklist and a digital distance and slope meter. Major findings are as follow. (1) Except one case, widths of all pedestrian routes (both sidewalk and non-sidewalk routes) exceeded 2 meters. (2) As for sidewalk and driveway contact point condition, there were many spots lacking curb ramp or alterative ramp that are accessible for manual wheelchair users. (3) More than half of non-sidewalk pedestrian routes did not have bollard to separate pedestrian and vehicle flows, and more than 92% of the bollards installed were too close for wheelchair users to pass or too far to prevent vehicle access. (4) More than 59 percent of the building entrances were found impossible for manual wheelchair users to access without any assistance, and one third of the buildings did not have any single accessible entrance. Based on the study findings, campus accessibility map was developed by the researchers and disseminated through university homepage. Using the campus accessibility map, users can plan their accessible paths ahead the trip.

  • The width of sidewalk is one of the important factors constructing a pleasant pedestrian environment. The procedure for sidewalk width design based on the Level of Service is suggested in Korea Highway Capacity Manual. However, this manual does not give a difference between the sidewalk on the street with the passage of the subway, therefore, the different flow characteristic of these places is not appropriately reflected. Though the pedestrian flow in the subway encounters a frequent stop and go situation as like the platoon of vehicles, the similar condition is rarely observed at the urban streets. The new measure of LOS for sidewalk is in need. The study reviewed the prominent measure of LOS and carried out the outdoor experiment to evaluate the new measure. Particularity, GPS was used to collect the pedestrian foot path trajectory for the quantitative evaluation and the results from quantitative and qualitative are compared.

  • This study is to find a way that improves the pedestrian environment in the main street in rural areas. The main streets of five local governments in Jeollanam-do, general towns and bases seat of a myeon office, were studied. The research results are as follows. First, all three groups under investigation required multi-purpose activities on main street. This is thought to be due to the maintenance of the main street with vehicle-centered maintenance, thereby revising the walking space around essential activities. Second, the simple size of the sidewalk width is not closely related to the safety of pedestrians, and it is judged that the pedestrian space should be maintained considering the size of the floating population, acceptable activities, and proper sidewalk width. Third, the center where pedestrian space and streetscape are maintained has spatial constraints on sidewalks and lanes, so there should be spatial flexibility. Also, it is necessary to find a way to minimize the occupancy of pedestrian roads due to ground parking lots in relation to pedestrian continuity. Fourth, improvement of walking environment should involve community activities other than physical improvement.
