  • In this paper, a new approach to the optimum synthesis of line source difference patterns is proposed for the monopulse tracking way antennas. In the Proposed scheme, which is different from the well-known Bayliss difference pattern synthesis, the difference patterns with the desired individual sidelobe levels are optimally synthesized by appropriately modifying the Taylor line source sum pattern formula. That is, the relationship between the difference pattern and the corresponding source distribution function is analytically established, and then the desired pattern and the distribution are simultaneously extracted by the optimum perturbation of pattern null positions. Furthermore this method provides more rapid sidelobe decay rates than conventional methods. Some numerical results show the validity and usefulness of the proposed procedures.

  • In this paper, a shaped small-size ADE(Axially Displaced Ellipse) reflector antenna of 30 cm in diameter operating from 37 to 40 GHz was designed. The experimental antenna was manufactured, and the radiation characteristics evaluated. In the procedure of antenna design, aperture field distribution was assumed to uniform + parabolic distribution. And the variations of beam width, aperture efficiency, and sidelobe level as functions of aperture field distributions were investigated, and these results presented to be used in antenna design. The measured gain and sidelobe level of experimental antenna were found 39.9 dBi(efficiency : 61.9%) and -18.8 dB for 40 GHz. These values show good agreement in design goal of efficiency more than 60% and sidelobe level less than -20 dB.

  • The radiating or receiving characteristics of array elements (i.e., antennas) are changed from those of isolated elements due to mutual coupling effects and the array performance becomes different from those originally designed by assuming isolated elements. The effects of mutual coupling on the performance of a rectangular array with triangular grid geometry of dipoles above a ground plane are discussed with respect to element pattern. The concept of element gain function is used to examine the effects of mutual coupling on the array performance in terms of sidelobe level in the uniformly spaced and space-tapered rectangular arrays with triangular grid geometry of dipoles. It was shown that the sidelobe performance improved in the space-tapered array compared to the uniformly spaced array in the presence of mutual coupling effects. Computer simulation results are presented.

  • In this paper, we propose the low sidelobe digital FIR doppler filter bank synthesis algorithm through the Gradient Descent method and it can be practially appliable to coherent pulse doppler radar signal processing. This algorithm shows the appropriate calculation of tap coefficients or zeros for FIR transversal fiter which has been employed in radar signal processor. The span of the filters in the filter bank be selected at the desired position the designer want to locate, and the lower sidelobe level that has equal ripple property is achieved than one for which the conventional weithtedwindow is used. Especially, when we implemented filter zeros as design parameters it is possible to make null filter gain at zero frequency intensionally that would be very efficient for the eliminatio of ground clutter. For the example of 10 tap filter synthesis, when filter coefficients or zeros are selected as design parameters the corresponding sidelobelevel is reducedto -70db or -100db respectively and it has good convergent characteristics to the desired sidelobe reference value. The accuracy ofapproach to the reference value and the speed of convergence that show the performance measure of this algorithm are tuned out with some superiority and the fact that the bandwidth of filter appears small with respect to one which is made by conventional weighted window method is convinced. Since the filter which is synthesized by this algorithm can remove the clutter without loss of target signal it strongly contributes performance improvement with which detection capability would be concerned.

  • It is practical to taper the element (e.g., antenna or sensor) spacing with uniform weight rather than to taper the weights with uniform spacing. In a rectangular array, a triangular grid geometry of elements is more economical than a rectangular grid geometry in terms of reducing the number of elements. A space-tapering approach is proposed to improve the performance of a rectangular phased array with a triangular grid geometry of elements above a ground plane. The effects of space tapering on the main beam width and sidelobe level are discussed. It is shown that the proposed approach improves the sidelobe performance while the main beam width becomes a little broader.

  • In this paper, an offset paraboloidal reflector antenna satisfied efficiency of over 60% and sidelobe envelope line of 29-25$log\theta$ was designed and manufactured for Ku-band VSAT(Very Small Aperture Terminal) antenna. The radiation patterns of experimental antenna were computed by applying the series expansion method using the Zernike polynomials. The measured patterns are in good agreement with the computed results. The Gain, efficiency, and sidelobe envelop line fairly well satisfy the design specifications except first sidelobe level.

  • In this paper, we derived to anlyze the correlation between the peak sidelobe of the linear isotropic random array and the design parameters, such as the element numbers, wavelength, scanning angle, confidence level and the length of aperture, with the statistical theory of random processes. The Peak sidelobe estimator was tested by the computer simulations using Honte Carlo method. Consequently, it was evident that the results of the peak lidelobe estimator were consistent with those of the computer simulations over confidence level 0.7.

  • The method of designing microstrip array antenna for low sidelobe level and narrow beam-width using Dolph-Chebyshev array is presented. The widths of microstrip antenna corresponding to excitation coefficients obtained by Dolph-Chebyshev array polynomials is decided by calculating radiation resistance using cavity model analysis. The cascaded array microstrip antenna composed of 10-elements with resonant frequency to be 9.43[GHz] is fabricated by using design method presented in this paper. The experimental results of relatively good characteristics show that its gain, sidelobe level and beam-width are 9[dB], -22[dB] and 8.7[$^{\circ}$].

  • Fabry-Perot (FP) resonator antennas with scan capabilities are described in this paper. The proposed antennas, excited by a thinned array, not only achieve higher directivities but also improve suppression of sidelobes relative to that of the thin array alone. Compared to the conventional microstrip patch array, the directivity enhancement and suppression of sidelobe level were achieved by increase of the aperture size of the proposed Fabry-Perot resonator antenna.

  • There are many antenna array errors. They will distort the array beam pattern and result in an increased sidelobe level. A calibration technique is proposed for correcting the antenna array errors such as mutual coupling and unequal feeder characteristics. These are modeled as a matrix representing the interaction between the radiating elements. The matrix is estimated from the measured array response vectors. The antenna array errors are corrected by modifying the beamforming weight vector. It is verified by the electromagnetic simulation and experiment that the proposed technique reduces the sidelobe level and increases the antenna gain.
