Multiband Meandered Monopole Antenna for Mobile Applications

  • A multiband meandered monopole antenna is proposed for digital video broadcasting handheld (DVB-H), global positioning system, personal communications service, wireless broadband (Wibro), and wireless local area network (WLAN) applications. The proposed antenna consists of a meandered line, a shorted length strip line, and a conductor strip between a meandered line and a microstrip feed line. By tuning a short strip and a conductor, a multiband impedance matching is achieved. The proposed antenna has an omnidirectional radiation and yields an antenna gain of greater than -3 dBi in the DVB-H band and 4.5 dBi in the Wibro and WLAN bands. Details of the proposed antenna design and experimental results are presented.

On the Fast Convergent Solution for Diffraction by a Strip Grating with a Grounded Dielectric Layer (접지된 유전체층 위에 위치한 스트립 격자구조의 회절에 대한 급속한 수렴해에 관한 연구)

  • The scattering problem of a transverse electric (TE) plane wave by strip grating with a dielectric slab over a ground plane is analyzed by the method of moments. By use of equivalence principle, surface magnetic current density on the shorted slot is expanded in a series of Chebyshev polynomial a satisfying the appropriate edge condition. Numerical results for reflection coefficient are obtained and compared with other available results. Our numerical results obtained from the present method are in good agreement with other result available in the literature.

  • A fast convergent solution to the scattering problem of a transverse electric (TE) plan wave by a periodic strip grating with a dielectric slab is considered. The present method follows from an expansion of the equivalent surface magnetic current placed over the shorted slot according to the equivalence principle in a series of Chebyshev polynomials satisfying the appropriate edge condition. To examine the accuracy and convergence of the present method, the numerical results are calculated for the reflection and transmission coefficients and compared with other results available in the literature.

Efficiency of Riparian Buffer Zone on Removing Sediment Yield Using SWAT Model (SWAT 모형을 이용한 수변완충지대 설정에 따른 토사유출량 저감 효과분석)

  • Riparian buffer zone prevents sediment entry into drainage channels or as a protection from runoff and wind erosion. However, Studies about its removing effect according to Riparian buffer zone are shorted now. In this study, using the SWAT model, Byongseong watershed is built on the Arcview GIS. Using the function of the filter strip in SWAT model, it is also examined about the variation of sediment yield. As a simulation result, the case of constructing riparian buffer zones at subbasins near the outlet shows generally high efficiency on removing sediment yield. In addition, according to the scenario analysis of changing riparian buffer zone width, it is thought that 5-10m riparian buffer zone width is the highest efficiency on removing sediment yields generated from Byeongseong watershed.

A 900 MHz VCO Having 7-dB Phase Noise Improvement at 100 kHz Offset

  • In this paper, the phase noise of 900 MHz VCO is improved using modified strip line square ring resonator. In order to demonstrate the phase noise improvement of the proposed VCO, the same circuit was manufactured using shorted-circuit resonator. In condition of the same bias current, the phase noise of the proposed VCO with modified square ring resonator is suppressed by 7 dB as - 103 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz offset compared to the conventional VCO with short-circuit resonator. From the proposed VCO, we achieved output power of - 4.8 dBm, harmonics suppression of 16 dB, and tuning bandwidth of 100 MHz. The proposed VCO consumed 5 mA at 3 V, and its size is 1.2 cm ${\times}$ 1.0 cm.

  • 본 논문에서는 휴대용 무선통신기기에 장착해서 사용가능한 이중대역(RFID(908.5-914), PCS) 소형 내장형 RFID 안테나를 설계하였다. 안테나 디자인은 PIFA(Planar Inverted-F Antenna)이며 기존 안테나 아래쪽에 접지와 연결된 패턴을 추가하여 결합성분을 유도하여 소형화 하였으며 표면 전류분포를 분산시켜 SAR를 개선하는 방법을 제시 하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과에 따라 안테나가 실제 제작 되고 측정되었다.

Design of a Broadband Quasi-Yagi Antenna fed by a Microstrip with a Shorted End (단락종단된 마이크로스트립으로 급전되는 광대역 quasi-Yagi 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we introduce a design method for a quasi-Yagi antenna (QYA) with broadband characteristics of an impedance bandwidth ratio of > 2 : 1 and a gain of > 4 dBi. The QYA is fed by a microstrip line fabricated on a coplanar strip line and it consists of 3 elements; a planar dipole, a nearby director close to the dipole, and a ground plane reflector. By placing a rectangular patch-type director with large width near to the dipole driver, broadband characteristics are achieved. An optimized 3-element QYA for operation over 1.6-3.5 GHz (bandwidth ratio 2.2 : 1) is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $90mm{\times}90mm$ and tested experimentally. The results show an impedance bandwidth of 1.56-3.74 GHz (bandwidth ratio 2.4 : 1) for VSWR < 2, a peak gain of 4.41-6.53 dBi, and a front-to-back ratio (FBR) > 13.6 dB within the bandwidth.

A Design of a circularly polarized small UHF RFID antenna (소형 원형편파 UHF RFID 대역 융합형 안테나 설계)

  • A circularly polarized small UHF RFID reader antenna is presented. The antenna is composed of four elements and printed on the plastic substrate(${\varepsilon}_r=2.2$, t=5mm). Each element is fed by a probe which is sequentially connected to the feed line. The feed line is manufactured on the FR-4 substrate(t=1.0mm, ${\varepsilon}_r=4.7$). The simulation results shows that the antenna can be achieved a return loss of 12dB, gain of 3.46dBic over the UHF band of 902-928MHz. According to our simulation results, two prototype antennas are manufactured and measured. The obtained antennas operate in UHF RFID bands and can be adapted for various portable applications. In addition, a parametric study is conducted to facilitate the design and optimization processes.

Design of Electromagnetically Coupled Small Broadband Monopole Antenna with Vertical Ground Plane (수직 접지면을 가지는 전자기적 결합 급전 소형 광대역 모노폴 안테나의 설계)

  • This paper presents a folded stripline-fed small broadband disk-loaded monopole antenna with vertical ground plane. The bandwidth of the proposed antenna can be enhanced by electromagnetic coupling between the shorted rectangular disk and the probe with folded strip line. The measured impedance bandwidth of the proposed antenna is $37.6\%$ for $VSWR\leq2$ with the center frequency at 2.313 GHz and has the physical dimensions of only $11mm\times11mm\times11mm$ which corresponds to the electrical length of $0.085\lambda_0\times0.085\lambda_0\times0.085\lambda_0$. For improving the radiation pattern characteristics, rectangular slits are inserted in the vertical ground plane. Rectangular slits affect the currents distribution on the ground plane, so that the antenna radiation in the direction of the ground plane is reduced more than 3 dBi. Gain of the antenna is approximately 2.6 dBi within the bandwidth.

Design of a Micro-strip Patch Array Antenna using CRLH Transmission Line Power Divider Supporting Infinite Wavelength (무한파장 전파특성을 갖는 CRLH 전송선로 전력 분배기를 이용한 마이크로스트립 패치 배열 안테나의 설계)

  • In this paper, an equally spaced $3{\times}2$ microstrip patch array antenna based on the fundamental infinite wavelength supported by the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission line (TL) is proposed. The proposed CRLH TL unit cell consists of an inter-digit capacitor to realize left-handed (LH) series capacitance and non-symmetric shunt meander line with a shorted via to realize LH shunt inductance. At the infinite wavelength frequency of 2.09 GHz a 6-port series power divider consisting of a 19 unit cells shows a maximum magnitude difference of 0.73 dB and a $0.52^{\circ}$ maximum phase difference between output ports. The measured resonant frequency and maximum gain of the fabricated array antenna is 2.09 GHz and 10.98 dBi, respectively.
