  • Due to the low loss, broadband and accurate short time delay properties of optical fiber, it has attracted as a delay medium for high speed and broad-band signal processing. In this paper, we consider the coherent optical fiber filter of lattice structure, which uses coherent light sources and consists of directional couplers and optical fiber delay elements. The differences between the optical fiber filter and the ordinary digital filter are 1) the coupling coefficients of directional couplers are restricted between 0 and 1. 2) the optical signal is divided into ${j\sqrt{a}}and\;{j\sqrt{1-a}}$ at the directional coupler. Considering these restrictions, the design formulae and condition of realibility for optical fiber filter of lattice structure which makes the optimal use of optical signal energy are derived.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel on-chip test logic for TSV fault detection in 3-dimensional integrated circuits. The proposed logic called OTT realizes the input signal delay-based TSV test method introduced earlier. OTT only includes one F/F, two MUXs, and some additional logic for signal delay. Thus, it requires small silicon area suitable for TSV testing. Both pre-bond and post-bond TSV tests are able to use OTT for short or open fault as well as small delay fault detection.

  • Recent years have witnessed an explosive growth of mobile devices, mobile cloud computing services offered by these devices and the remote clouds behind them. In this paper, we noticed ultra-low latency service, as a type of mobile cloud computing service, requires extremely short delay constraints. Hence, such delay-sensitive applications should be satisfied with strong QoS guarantee. Existing solutions regarding this problem have poor performance in terms of throughput. In this paper, we propose an end-to-end bandwidth resource reservation via software defined scheduling inspired by the famous SDN framework. The main contribution of this paper is the end-to-end resource reservation and flow scheduling algorithm, which always gives priority to delay sensitive flows. Simulation results confirm the advantage of the proposed solution, which improves the average throughput of ultra-low latency flows.

  • This paper presents an overview of automotive communication technologies, including related technology developments. We describe the latency of Audio Video Bridge (AVB) network as well as purpose the optimized design of the Ethernet network system for automotive. Our design plays a significant role in reducing the delay between components. The proposed approach on realistic test cases showed that there was a delay reduction, approximately 49.4%. It is expected that the optimization method for the actual automotive environment can greatly shorten the time period in the design and development process. The results obtained from the experiments on the delay time present in each function are reliable because average values are obtained through repeated actual tests for several months. It will greatly benefit the industry since analyzing the latency between each function in a short period of time is very important.

  • For developing the ignition device for the interceptor of Korean active protection system, the design parameters of the ignition device which should have a short ignition delay time and sufficient energy for propellant ignition were studied. The electric primer instead of mechanical primer was adopted for deceasing delay time, and ignition code was used for decreasing the time difference of flame propagation from the flame holes. The developed ignition device showed the ignition delay time of a few ms. When the designed ignition device was applied to the open-type propulsion devices, the stable interior ballistic characteristic was showed in a firing test.

  • In order to support a large number of mobile stations (MSs) with statistical multiplexing in cellular networks, a random access scheme is widely used for uplink (UL) bandwidth request (BR). In the design of a random access based BR scheme, there are two important requirements: short connection delay and diverse Quality of Services (QoSs) support. Such requirements are crucial for IMT-Advanced systems like IEEE 802.16m to provide various types of fourth generation (4G) data services. IEEE 802.16m provides advanced UL BR schemes for non-real time polling service (nrtPS) and best-effort (BE) service to meet the requirements of short connection time and multiple QoS level support. In order to provide short connection time and multiple QoS support, three-step and differentiated BR procedures are adopted. In this paper, a novel modelling of IEEE 802.16m contention based BR scheme is proposed that uses a 2-dimensional discrete time Markov chain. Both the short access delay three-step BR procedures and normal five-step BR procedure are considered in the model. Our proposed model also incorporates the IEEE 802.16m differentiated BR procedure. With the proposed model, we extensively evaluate the performance of IEEE 802.16m BR for two different service classes by changing QoS parameters, such as backoff window size and BR timer. Computer simulations are performed to corroborate the accuracy of the proposed model for various operation scenarios. With the proposed model, accurate QoS parameter values can be derived for the IEEE 802.16m contention-based BR scheme.

  • SHORT syndrome is an extremely rare congenital condition due to a chromosomal mutation of the PIK3R1 gene found at 5q13.1. SHORT is a mnemonic representing six manifestations of the syndrome: (S) short stature, (H) hyperextensibility of joints and/or inguinal hernia, (O) ocular depression, (R) Rieger anomaly, and (T) teething delay. Other key aspects of this syndrome not found in the mnemonic include lipodystrophy, triangular face with dimpled chin (progeroid facies, commonly referred to as facial gestalt), hearing loss, vision loss, insulin resistance, and intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). 3q duplication syndrome is rare syndrome that occurs due to a gain of function mutation found at 3q25.31-33 that presents with a wide array of manifestations including internal organ defects, genitourinary malformations, hand and foot deformities, and mental disability. We present a case of a 2 year and 3 month old male with SHORT syndrome and concurrent 3q duplication syndrome. The patient presented at birth with many of the common manifestations of SHORT syndrome such as bossing of frontal bone of skull, triangular shaped face, lipodystrophy, micrognathia, sunken eyes, and thin, wrinkled skin (progeroid appearance). Additionally, he presented with findings associated with 3q duplication syndrome such as cleft palate and cryptorchidism. Although there is no specific treatment for these conditions, pediatricians should focus on referring patients to various specialists in order to treat each individual manifestation.

  • Several studies have evaluated the effects of types of relative frequency and delay interval of knowledge of results(KR) on motor skill learning independently. The purpose of this study was to determine more effective types of KR relative frequency and KR delay interval for motor learning. Forty-six healthy subjects (15 female, 31 male) with no previous experience with this experiment participated. The subjects ranged in age from 20 to 29 years (mean=23.9, SD=0.474). All subjects were assigned to one of four groups: a high-instant group, a high-delay group, a low-instant group, and a low-delay group. During the acquisition phase, subjects practiced movements to a target (400 mm) with either a high (83%) or low (33%) KR relative frequency, and with either an instantaneous or delayed (after 8s) KR. Four groups were evaluated on retention (after 3min and 24hr) and transfer (450 mm) tests. The major findings were as follows: (1) there were no between-group differences in acquisition and short-term retention (p>0.05, (2) a low (33%) KR relative frequency during practice was as effective for learning as measured by both long-tenn retention and transfer tests, compared with high (83%) KR practice conditions (p<0.05), (3) delayed (8s) KR enhanced learning as measured by both long-term retention and transfer tests, compared with instantaneous KR practice conditions (p<0.05), and (4) there were no interactions between KR relative frequency and KR delay interval during acquisition, retention, and transfer phases. The results suggest that relatively less frequent and delayed KR are more effective types for motor learning than more frequent and instantaneous KR.

  • Public infrastructure projects are implemented to achieve targeted economic development of nations. However, due to the delayed execution of projects, the investment cost of the project increases in proportion to time overrun. The increased investment cost for the defined scope of project may have an effect on the achievement of planned future benefits, but the effect of delay on the loss of estimated benefits is not well explored. The primary objective of this research is to assess the effect of delayed execution of road and bridge construction projects on the estimated future benefits. Furthermore, the relationship between delay and the percentage loss of future benefits is modeled using the linear regression analysis. The data consists of 395 road and 248 bridge construction contracts under the Department of Roads, Nepal. The statistical analysis of road and bridge construction contracts showed that there is a reduction in estimated benefits in future years due to the effect of delay. The relationship between the percentage loss of estimated benefit and delay period in months was found to be significant for both road and bridge contracts. The results show that delay not only affects the short-term cost overrun but also the achievement of estimated future benefits. This research thus contributes valuable insights into the understanding of the impact of project delays on both cost overruns and the loss of estimated future benefits. Furthermore, this research has practical implications for policymakers, private sector investors, and financing agencies involved in infrastructure development projects.

  • As the integration density and the operating speed of System on Chips (SoCs) become increasingly high, it is crucial to test delay defects on the SoCs. This paper introduces an enhanced IEEE 1500 wrapper cell architecture and IEEE 1149.1 TAP controller for the wrapper interface logic, and proposes a transition delay fault test method. The method proposed can detect slow-to-rise and slow-to-fall faults sequentially with low area overhead and short test time. and simultaneously test IEEE 1500 wrapped cores operating at different core clocks.
