  • We have analyzed the short pulse generation using heterodyne techniques. The numerical model for semiconductor lasers under the heterodyne technique is based on the Lang's equation and has been extended in order to take into account the simultaneous injection of the multiple sidebands of the current-modulated laser. The unselected sidebands will affect the optical and RF-spectral characteristics even when the semiconductor laser is locked to the target sidebands.

  • In this study, the characteristics of various electricity and high resistivity ash collection were measured at superimposed nanosecond pulse energization. The pulse was generated through the hydrogen thyratron. Superimposed pulse was nanosecond duration pulse that had fast pulse rising time 100[ns], short pulse width 500∼850[ns] and pulse fall time 400∼750[ns]. The results of this study are summarized as followings; Frist, compared with the DC ESP(electrostatic precipitator), superimposed pulse ESP could induce higher peak voltage, and had the about 30[%] reduction of ESP collection area and 50∼80[%] reduction of power consumption. showing the same efficiency. Second, enhancement factor H had 1.9∼3.6 with the increase of migration velocity.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the fundamental properties of the gradual muscle force potentiation. We investigated the dependence of force potentiation on both the pulse-amplitude and the pulse-duration with different ramp-up time. The experimental results showed that the force increment ratio (FIR) during constant electrical stimulation decreased with pulse-amplitude and also with pulse-duration. The FIR was greater with short ramp-up time in both the pulse-amplitude and pulse-width modulation. The feasible mechanism might be that the myosin light chain phosphorylation induces the force potentiation and it occurs only in the fast type muscle fibers which are recruited first. These observations indicate that muscle potentiation must be understood well for the accurate control of muscle force.

  • A novel multistage pulse jamming suppression algorithm was proposed to solve the anti-pulse jamming problem encountered in navigation receivers. Based on the characteristics of the short duration of pulse jamming and distribution characteristics of satellite signals, the pulse jamming detection threshold was derived. From the experiments, it was found that the randomness of pulse jamming affects jamming suppression. On this basis, the principle of the multistage anti-pulse jamming algorithm was established. The effectiveness of the anti-jamming algorithm was verified through experiments. The characteristics of the algorithm include simple determination of jamming detection threshold, easy programming, and complete suppression of pulse jamming.

  • This paper presents an analytic and numerical simulation of the generation and propagation of pico-second ultrasound with nano-scale wavelength, enabling the production of bulk waves in thin films. An analytic model of laser-matter interaction and elasto-dynamic wave propagation is introduced to calculate the elastic strain pulse in microstructures. The model includes the laser-pulse absorption on the material surface, heat transfer from a photon to the elastic energy of a phonon, and acoustic wave propagation to formulate the governing equations of ultra-short ultrasound. The excitation and propagation of acoustic pulses produced by ultra-short laser pulses are numerically simulated for an aluminum substrate using the finite-difference method and compared with the analytical solution. Furthermore, Fourier analysis was performed to investigate the frequency spectrum of the simulated elastic wave pulse. It is concluded that a pico-second bulk wave with a very high frequency of up to hundreds of gigahertz is successfully generated in metals using a 100-fs laser pulse and that it can be propagated in the direction of thickness for thickness less than 100 nm.

  • Thermal shock behavior of TiN-coated SUS 304 substrate was investigated using a laser ablation method. By short surface ablation with a pulse Nd-YAG laser, considerable surface crack and spalling were observed, whereas there were few oxidation phenomena, such as grain growth of TiN crystallites, nucleation and growth of $TiO_2$ crystallites, which were observed from the coatings quenched from $700^{\circ}C$ in a chamber. The oxygen concentration of the ablated coating surface with the pulse laser also had a lower value than that of the quenched coating surface by Auger electron spectroscopy and electron probe micro analysis. These results were attributed to the fact that the properties of the pulse laser method have a very short heating time and so the diffusion time for oxidation was insufficient. Consequently, it was verified that the laser thermal shock test provides a way to evaluate the influence of the thermal shock load reduced oxidation effect.

  • This study proposes a current source-type pulse generator to improve output voltage and current waveforms under a capacitively coupled plasma (CCP) system. The proposed circuit comprises two parallel-connected current source-type converters. These converters can satisfy the required output waveforms of plasma processing. The parallel-connected converters operate without reverse current fault by applying a time-delay control technique. Conventional voltage source converters based on pulse power supply exhibit drawbacks in short-circuit current, and problems occur when they are applied to a CCP system. The proposed pulse power supply based on a current source converter fundamentally solves the short-circuit current problem. Therefore, this topology can improve the voltage and current accuracy of a CCP system.

  • Objectives: For the traditional pulse diagnosis in Oriental Medicine, not only the pulse shape in time domain, but the width, length and depth of arterial pulse also should be measured. However, conventional pulse diagnostic systems have failed to measure the spatial parameters of the arterial pulse e.g. effective length of arterial pulse in the wrist. In fact, there are many ways to measure that kind of spatial features in arterial pulsation, but among them, the method using image sensor provides relatively cheap and simple way, therefore I tested feasibility of measuring 2-dimensional pressure distribution by imaging devices. Methods: Using widely used PC cameras and dotted balloons, the subtle oscillation of skin over the radial artery was recorded continuously, and then the displacement of every dot was calculated. Consequently, the time course of that displacements shows arterial pulse wave. Results: By the proposed method I could get pressure distribution map with 30Hz sampling rate, 21steps quantization resolution, and approximately 1mm spatial resolution. With reduced quantization resolution, $3cm{\times}4cm$ view angle could be achieved. Conclusion: Although this method has some limitations, it would be useful method for detecting 2-dimensional features of arterial pulse, and accordingly, this method provides a novel way to detect 'narrow pulse', 'wide pulse', 'long pulse', 'short pulse', and their derivatives.

  • The Q-switching oscillator of TE $M_{00}$ mode was constructed in order to improve the properties of energy focusing and amplification, and prevent laser materials from breakdown. The Q-switching was done by means of electro-optical effect using Glan prism and KDP Pockels cell. Sharp laser pulse of risetime-1 ns and variable pulse width 2-10 ns was obtained from Q-switching laser pulse by PTM method using a laser triggered spark gap (LTSG), Glan prism and Pockels cell. A single ultra-short pulse (picosec order in pulse width) was obtained from mode-locked pulse train in combination of a mode-locked oscillator using saturable dye cell with pulse shaping system using PTM method.d.
