  • In this paper, a new type of precast perforated concrete block is presented to be used in the construction of a step seawall. The overtopping rate of the perforated step seawall is lower than that of the traditional non-perforated step seawall. In construction stage, the cost of total construction of the perforated block is cheaper than that of traditional block. The new type of perforated block may be used as an alternative for shore protection facility.

  • This study were developed with the preventive structures of shore erosion using the seawater circulation system in wave dissipation block of the natural affinity. The shore protection structures were established to excellent by the hydraulic model experiment on reflectivity and stability and wave overtopping in comparison with existing other structures. These structures, in order to analyzes also as the shore protection and the erosion preventive, were examined with the field applications of performance and the capacity of prevention, respectively, from field construction of the pending positions. As the result, the structures were ensured with the applications and the efficiency as the shore protection structure of erosion preventive by certifying accumulated sediment deposits in the field measurement and monitoring.

  • The biggest cause of submarine cable fault is fishing activity such as 70% by anchor of fishing boats and occurs within 200m the depth of water. It needs a regulation for protection of submarine cable from the fishing boats and construction of cable at shore-end. This paper is studying a plan and regulation to install the construction among the subsee users, and the burial technique of submarine cable at shore-end suggests to manage from company to government.

  • Among government projects for reduction of coastal disaster, coastal maintenance project stage 1(2000~2009) and stage 2(2010~2019) to reduce coastal erosion and sedimentation are currently under process. In performing the coastal maintenance projects, it is necessary to install artificial concrete armor units for coastal protection. Presently in Korea, products manufactured in Japan are applied to the site, or blocks self-developed by the construction firms are installed. However, there is a lack of technical reviews such as verification of hydraulic characteristics, securing the stability and design techniques. This study is intended to develop waterfront shore protection blocks with good accessibility of people and excellent coastal disaster reduction and protection capability. Through this study, hydraulic characteristics and stability coefficients of shore protection blocks could be drawn.

  • Inundation of substation and underground power equipment(pad-mounted transformers & switches) breaks out every summer season in low-lying downtown and low-lying shore by localized heavy rain, typhoon and tidal wave. In case inundation of substation and underground power equipment, it occurs a great economic loss owing to recovery time and events of electric shock occur by inundation electrical facility. So we search the damage situation and installation situations. Therefore we propose the necessity of protection of flood at low-lying downtown and low-tying shore. This paper will be used to present a reform proposal of electrical related law about flood protection of existing power equipment.

  • Recent long-span bridges, such as Kwang-Ahn Grand bridge, Seo-Hae Grand Bridge, Young-Jong Grand Bridge, etc, have been designed and constructed near the shore. Thus, it needs to analyze the durability of marine concrete structures which are exposed to severe chloride environments. It is well known that corrosion of reinforcement steel in concrete is one of the major factors for the durability of concrete structures. The objective of this experimental study is to investigate the performance of impressed current system and corrosion inhibitors for the corrosion protection of reinforced concrete structures. Concrete test specimens were made with various test parameters, such as cover depth, steel diameter, compressive strength, direction and frequency of notch. For the efficient evaluation of these corrosion protection systems, these tests have been carried out in the shore.

  • The main purpose of this study was to verify the shore margin protection effect of the root system of Salix gracilistyla Miq. developed from direct sticking cuttings on wetland, through the measurement of root growth and comparison of soil slaking rate depending on the planting method applied to shore-marginal slope. Comparison of growth rate and soil dispersion rate was made between five planted slope and one naked slope. The planting methods applied to the planted slope were (a) horizontally layed burying of stick(45cm) bundle (b) horizontally layed covering the slope with sticks (c) horizontally fencing with normal cuttings(20cm) (d) elected sticking of normal cutting at equal distances (e) random scattering short cuttings(3-4cm). As results, the most effective planting method was horizontally layed burying, and in order to increase its efficiency scattering the live stem chips in 2-3cm on the slope is recommended. The growth of root was negatively regressive to the distance from water floor.

  • In recent times, sea level increasing caused by abnormal weather and global warming, sea-sand dredging and complex development causes various kind of erosion damages onto the coastal area in the world. The various types of erosion control and protection methods are applied but there are no signs of fruitful effectiveness. The PC concrete protection block for shore protection structure is practically installed in globally but most of structures in the present day became villainous because of bad accessability. In this study, hydrophilic revetments for control and protection of coastline erosion will be developed in order to make up for a faculty of the shore erosion protection block with better accessibility and excellent protection ability. Experimental measurements were researched to insure for the capacity and facility on reflection coefficient, overtopping volume, and overtopping height characteristics of newly developed shore erosion protection block in model tests. As the result, hydraulic model tests show much excellent than the general step block. Field tests were carried out also to verify through vegetative test on an affinity and construction work test of control-protection on coastline erosion with actual utilization. In the latter case, deposition of sand accumulation occurred in fairly short time at the established reaches and then we can be confirmed to utilize for newly developed block as the revetments for control and protection of coastline erosion.
